((Okay, so there were 480 salmon, and 480 lobsters.))
((your roll was awarded +5 for finding a secondary weakness of the seafood: "being skewered", making your roll come out 76... but there are salmon and lobsters in pairs, so things will get crazy there...))
One of the salmon was attempting to generate an electrical shield, and that deflected Saito's sword a bit. The salmon in question still got chopped, but through the head instead of in half. The lobster riding it escaped being hacked. Results: Saito's attack chops 3 salmon in half, leaving 477 salmon. 2 of the lobsters were also chopped, leaving 477 lobsters still riding their salmon mounts... and one that fell onto the ground.
Of the remaining salmon, a dozen or so started firing their little sniper rifles they keep hidden under their fins at Saito. The rest collectively began pulling down a cloud from higher in the atmosphere, which after a few rounds they may use to mess with the weather in the arena around them. The lobster mages mostly hadn't started doing anything yet, except for the one on the ground which reflexively fired off a spell that generated ice shards.
((okay, I'll let you say exactly how much damage the rifles and the ice-shard spell would do to Saito, use the roll from this post for both attacks... and I've got to go now, feel free to RP the monsters if you want to continue the battle over the weekend.))

A small girl hesitated outside of the Dueling Arena. The soft breeze ruffled her chin length brown hair. Her dark brown eyes glinted with an intelligence far beyond her years. Though, when one is raised in a library, that tends to happen. Her darkly intelligent eyes flicked over the pamphlet once more. It described the tournament in detail and bragged about powerful monsters and fabulous prizes. She smirked at the obviously overblown advertisement. The Dueling Arena was a fine place, but it was hardly old enough or prosperous enough to be able to provide truly powerful monsters or incredibly fabulous prizes. It had still been the Ometta Dome a scant four years ago. She would know that quite well. She had attended her first concert in that very stadium. It was one of A. N. Sem’s first concerts and the organization that owned the library she was raised in got her free tickets. Of course, this organization was the same one that made a record deal with A. N. Sem, so the tickets cost them nothing. But the idea that they cared enough about her enough to send her to a concert was really very touching. She had met the singer before. His real name was Afos and he worked at the library part time back then. She thought he was kind of cute, but he had a steady girlfriend back in Kabina. That concert was so long ago. It reminded her that this was also the last place Afos had performed before the “accident”.
This place held a whole lot of memories for her, but it had changed almost completely. If she squinted at the building, she could still kind of make out the shape of the Ometta Dome, but otherwise it was a completely different building. She fussed with her light pink hair bow a little bit before folding up the pamphlet into a little swan. She cupped her hands around it and blew over the small paper figure. It stretched its tiny wings and flapped off into the distance. “Goodbye, little one.” She wiped a single tear from the corner of her eye. It was hard to see them go.
Her dark brown eyes flicked up to the massive marble structure before her. She self-consciously brushed her light, somewhat frilly, pink shirt and bedazzled blue jeans with the back of her hands. Slowly, she stepped forward into the brightly lit entryway to the Arena. She was amazed at how similar and different it was to the Ometta Dome it had once been. There were the ticket stalls, looking slightly dejected. The crowds were never as big as they had been back in the days of the Ometta Dome, so ticket sales were down. She had her hand in her pocket and had almost taken out her wallet before she realized what she was doing. As much as she’d love to help out and bring the Dueling Arena back to the glory it once had as the Ometta Dome, she didn’t have the spare money. Mister Soluna was always so adamant about her allowance. He never let her have an advance or anything! He was a pretty nice guy otherwise. Those odd patches that often decorated his clothes were usually pretty good company too. She knew that they were really sentient weapons and the physical incarnations of the Vices, but they were still fun to talk to. And the other man who was always in the library, Mister Ahardsen, was always so distant and scary. She wasn’t even sure if he knew that she lived in the library too, but he was pretty good at finding her books.
Finally, she reached the table that squatted where the concessions stand had once majestically stood. A small boy sat behind it and a notepad sat atop it. She peered down at the notepad and then back up at the boy. “The sign-ups for the Tournament are still open, correct?”

((Sorry about that... my bad. If you go through these things too quickly, though, then if someone else wants to join in on a practice battle, we might have another one against a different group of some other variety of little dangerous critters... XD))
((+5 to Saito's roll for finding a secondary weakness: "bludgeoning attacks". Modified roll = 97)) Saito's attack came too quickly for the salmon to have time to generate protective electrical shields. About 48 lobsters and 52 salmon were battered to pieces by the chunks of rock launched at them from Saito's attack. Additionally, 8 salmon-lobster pairs were knocked silly and fell to the ground, and 6 more lobsters were knocked off of their salmon. Also, the lobster already on the ground was hit by another lobster falling on it, as the stunned seafood fell to the ground along with debris consisting of rock and sushi.
((There are 425 salmon left; 8 stunned and on the ground, 417 still in the air. There are 430 lobsters left; 19 stunned and on the ground, 411 still in the air.
Two dozen angry salmon, including the ones that had their lobsters knocked off, fired their little rifles at Saito as if they had no end of bullets. Five of the lobsters on the trigger-happy salmon managed to coordinate an attack to cast spells that fired little streams of water at Saito's head from different directions, intending to put out his cigarette and distract him by a good dousing, to make him an easier target for the salmon. Several other lobsters tried to cast spells at him, too, but the salmon they were on were moving too hyper for them to actually be able to aim well, and their shots went wide. The remaining approximately 390 or so able-bodied salmon with lobsters continued pulling down a cloud from the sky above the arena. The air around the whole group of them was getting hazy-looking and started crackling with electricity.
1-10 miss (angry salmon aim poorly, lobsters' spells easy to dodge) 11-20 very little damage (some bullets hit, some water hits) 21-50 partial damage (same as above, only more so) 51-90 moderate damage (fair quantity of hits, Saito's cigarette gets soggy and he gets a face full of water and soaked hair) 91-100 maximum damage (maximum possible distraction and hits with tiny bullets, whatever that would be considering Saito's abilities and temperament)

The 12-year-old redhead sitting at the sign-up table who looked exactly like the one standing in the arena entrance hastily finished the painfully poorly-executed doodle of a random dragon-ish monster he was working on as the girl walked up. Closing the notebook and putting it away before she could get more than a second's glance at it, BillBob looked up and sort-of grinned at the little girl, trying not to be embarrassed at being caught doodling.
*ahem* "Yes, handouts with copies of the official tournament rules are here, there's the sign-up paper right there, and here's a pencil." The boy offered her a pencil to sign up with, and also a small device roughly the size and shape of a hockey-puck, with a tiny screen and little lights on it.
"If you like, there's a practice battle going on in the main arena right now, that you can join in on. If you need to leave the arena before you're called up for your battle, this device will let you know when it's your turn, wherever you are in Byako. BillBob opened his notebook to a blank page, and picked his pencil back up, ready to write.
"Is there anything you would like included in your introduction when your battle is announced?"
((you can find the rules posted in the "arena chat" thread in town talk, or I can PM you a copy, if you like))

ByakoAssailant shota walked around the arena seeking the most powerful person within its halls...
delbosque And found the weakest, purely by chance. "Why does he even hand me these things?" A 20-something human male in a wrinkly business suit minus the jacket almost walked into Shota while turning a corner. He was flipping through a whole lot of really tiny print on legal-sized sheets of paper. "Oh! Sorry..." He said, looking up and noticing Shota. Raul blinked at the stranger. It was the first time since he'd arrived that he'd almost literally run into someone he didn't know in the halls of the arena.
"Excuse me..." He muttered embarrassedly and walked on past Shota, heading down the halls on the way to his cousin's office.
