In the end days.

"Yeah. And you may want to stuff your ears with a bit of the packing material." The fox flexed his hand and tried to summon light into his hand as a weak amount gathered. "Looks like my power is regulating again."

The horse was just finishing up the third crate. She paused a moment at the fox's words, looking somewhat nervous; wordlessly she tore off two small pieces of foam and worked them into her ears.

The fox rolled up a cord in his hands making a wire and layed it by the front entrance and up the stairs leading to the roof.

The door gave another frightening shake; Brooke hurriedly shoved another crate against it. She made sure to pick up the handgun and cradled it in her hands as she trotted anxiously after Dimitris. "Are we leaving now? Do these things come pre-loaded?"

Dimitris shook his head and tossed the horse a clip as he picked up a box of rifle shells. Placing it in his pocket. "Load it and let's get to the roof with as much ammo as we can." The fox strapped his rifle and one more onto his back as he picked up 3 cases of ammunition and headed for the roof, the coils of wire were being drawn from his back pocket.

Brooke looked rather confused. She trotted back over to where the ammo was and opened a box, peering inside. She really had no idea how to open a gun or where to put the bullets. She made a little whimper and began to mess with the gun, prodding a lone bullet into various possible spots until she found one that fit; the bullet clicked into place nicely.

Encouraged, she filled the gun and clipped it to her belt. After taking as many boxes into her arms as she could hold without dropping any, she waddled awkwardly after Dimitris.

Dimitris held the roof door ajar peering outside making sure none of the mutants made their way onto the roof and escorted Brooke outside and pointed to the car. "You think you can grow a plant out to the car from here, if you can I want you to wait for my signal." The fox checked the wire going throughout the crates she managed to stack along the doors.

Brooke closed her eyes, sensing her surroundings silently. "Not growing from the roof," she answered. "There aren't any seeds up here. But... there's plenty of potential down there in the earth." She opened her eyes again, looking intently and questioningly at Dimitris. "Is it good enough that I try to get a plant growing up from the ground, to us? We'd have to slide down it ourselves; don't know if that's what you were planning."

Dimitris reached into his pocket and took out a bag of pumpkin seeds. "I took this from the mall since I saw your power at work, do you think you can make a vine we could make our way down from?" The fox stood there eying the ever closer wave of creatures hammering at the door as he focused on filtering his power.

Brooke's face lit up. She could sense it in the bag: the life, the energy, the raw power. "Oh, thank you!" she chimed, "that'll be perfect!" She extended her hand, ready to take the bag. "It might be tough not having much soil up here, but I'll see what I can do."

"While you're doing that I'll be putting in the finishing touches." The fox stated picking up a combat shotgun and going back in the building.

Brooke nodded to show she understood. She set the bag of seeds on the edge of the roof. She'd never tried to use her power without soil before, but she hoped it would still work. Noticing the car parked outside the fence, she focused on sending the plants' energy in that direction. Soon enough, strong green tendrils had split the bag and were arcing in that direction, growing ever thicker.

Suddenly the horse realized she felt short of breath. A weight in her, pressing every organ in slowly increasing pain... as if her energy, her very essence, were being leeched away. But no! She desperately gripped the vines in her hands and forced her energy into the plants. She had to make this, she had to.

Fire in her, pressing everywhere, clouding her vision. Her thoughts were growing weak, and her vision fading. But the vine wasn't long enough yet...

She had to...

Dimitris had unlocked every door in the warehouse wedging a rigged shotgun to it and with the wires he set up an explosive system throughout the barriers and into the ammunition crates.

"All right, these things are gonna pay for hunting us down and this hellfire should take everything out, now to see if Brooke managed to get done on her end." Getting to his feet the fox made his way up to the roof and saw Brooke fall to her knees straining out her powers to meet the requirements.

Dimitris knelt down beside her and held her sides. "Come on Brooke it's good enough. It's no good for you to kill yourself to get to the car, We can run from where it is."

Far out above the car, the vine's growth slowed to a halt. The palomino, however, did not stir. Her hands were still entwined in the base of the thick vine-clump. She was still breathing lightly and her body was warm, but it was clear that she'd gone unconscious. And... did she look a little thinner than she had before?

"That'll do." The fox whispered reached down with Dice's knife hacking the vine from Brooke. After freeing her hands Dimitris managed to pick the palomino up barely and waddle down the vine awkwardly until reaching the car.
