Shadow took the scroll and hit Yukio in the head with it. He then answered Zeramaru. "I don't really care what you do to him." Shadow said, as he shrugged his shoulders with a whatever look on his face, his eyes closed.

Yukio hit the floor, but then suddenly popped back up like one of those wack-a-mole games. "So, what's next?"

 

[Firu Shinra]

"You can learn academy level defensive jutsu now." Shadow said as he handed him the scroll for it. Shadow continued to remain laid back.

"Score!" Yukio shouted cheerfully as he grabbed the scroll and ran off to a secluded section of the room to read it.

[1/2] Yukio started off with Echo. The jutsu sounded similar to Noise, so Yukio just played off of what he already knew to throw his own voice. At first though the couldn't quite get the direction right, as his voice at the other end of the room turned into a guitar rift.

[2/2] With a little more practice though, Yukio accomplished the jutsu in no time. Yukio saw this technique as something useful for later on, where he might need to hide his presence from a foe. He doubted it would provide him much use during the exams though.

[1/2] Yukio continued with the next jutsu, called "Blur." After reading through it, Yukio tried to blur his own form, using sound frequencies to disrupt anybody's ability to see his body clearly. Unfortunately, though this was a fairly simple concept to go on, Yukio hadn't performed a sound jutsu quite like this one yet, so he couldn't accomplish it in one try.

[2/2] Two tries seemed to be plenty enough though. Yukio quickly adapted the blur ability to his own form, making it much more difficult to see and hit him. Yukio knew that this would work perfectly with his dodging, but the jutsu was difficult to pull off alone. He wouldn't be able to use any other jutsu while this was activated, giving Yukio somewhat of a window of weakness. He just hoped that during those times his paper manipulation would be enough to keep his enemies off of him.

[1/2] Yukio moved on to the next jutsu, called "Quiet." He grinned, as he knew that this would provide a great combo for him to use to even further hide his presence, and possible make a cleaner getaway during chases. He started out by using his own chakra to blanket the sounds he made.

[2/2] After using this to blanket first his feet, and then even the sound of his breathing, Yukio soon learned how to disguise the sounds he made. Unfortunately, it wasn't a very strong jutsu, as anybody who was particularly listening for him would surely not be fooled. Then again, that's why the other jutsus such as noise and echo existed.

[1/2] Yukio was a bit confused with the last of the basic defensive sound jutsus. Its idea seemed fairly easy to understand, scramble the sounds of an area randomly. Still, what purpose would that serve? Yukio decided he'd learn first and ask later, so he used what he'd learned from the Quiet jutsu to spread out his chakra and scramble the sounds there. At first though he could only scramble sounds within a ten foot radius.

[2/2] After another try though, Yukio successfully increased the radius to twenty feet. He tried it out by taking a step. Instead of a footstep though, he got the sound of Shadow rolling his needle around in his mouth. Yukio dispelled the jutsu, convinced that it had worked, and walked up to Shadow. "Well, that was pretty easy. But what use is the sound scrambler for? I don't see how it could be used as a reliable jutsu in battle." Yukio asked as he handed back the scroll.

((Sound Scrambler learned. All basics completed.))

"It is though." Shadow said as he handed the gennin defensive jutsu scroll to Yukio. "You just need to know how to use it properly."

"So you don't know either, huh?" Yukio muttered as he took the scroll and walked back to his secluded area of the classroom.

[1/3] Yukio read through the first jutsu on the list, the Ventriliquism technique. Its basis seemed pretty simple, and very similar to some of his other sound jutsu, so he doubted this would take long. First he concentrated on how the jutsu would work. It was important in order to understand the jutsu.

[2/3] Next Yukio tried throwing not just his voice, but Shadow's voice to the other side of the room. On the first try the voice echoed back in a demonic fashion, threatening to eat Yukio's soul and such. Of course, Yukio was the one making the words, but the voice still scared the hell out of him.

[3/3] With a little fine tuning, Yukio had the jutsu down perfectly. He thought he'd already mastered throwing voices and sounds after the Smooth Criminal no Jutsu, but still, this made it a bit easier for him.

"I'm a wolf whose specialties are poison and assassination. If you want to know how to use Sound techniques, you should talk to my nephew." Shadow said to him.

Yukio broke away from his training to walk up to Shadow. "A wolf?" Yukio said as he inspected Shadow. "You certainly don't look like a wolf." he muttered as he reached up and tugged on Shadow's ear.

 

[Firu Shinra]

Shadow transformed instantaneously into his wolf form, avoiding Yukio's grasp. Then the midnight black wolf shot up, and pinned Yukio to the ground. "Yes, I am." The wolf said. "And if you want to keep those hands, I suggest you don't try and touch me." Shadow finished as he stepped back and transformed into his human form. "Now get back to training."

Yukio chuckled and got up. "Haha. I knew I could get you to transform, heheh. You should careful though, Shadow-sensei. Wolves shouldn't be so easily tricked." Yukio grinned mischieviously and went back to training.

[1/3] Yukio went on to practice the Hells Ears jutsu. First, he closed his eyes as he concentrated on the sounds of everything going on around him.

[2/3] Next Yukio amplified his comprehension of the sounds around him, allowing him to hear things that normally would be masked or difficult. For a moment, he could even hear his own heart beat.

[3/3] Yukio thought that he'd already mastered the technique, but after opening his eyes he realized how easy it was to negate the jutsu. It required a lot of concentration, and so it was only when Yukio closed his eyes that he could make it work.

[1/3] Yukio continued with the next jutsu, called the Harmony: Boom. After reading it Yukio instantly comprehended how it would work. After all, it was just a slightly different form of some of the other vocal attacks he'd learned before. First he started by adjusting the chakra in his vocal coords to mold the appropriate sound attack.

[2/3] Then Yukio fired a base-ball sized ball of concentrated wind across the room. Unfortunately though, it only reached about ten feet, as opposed to the twenty feet it was rumored to make. Of course, this was Yukio's first try, so these kinds of miscalculations were to be expected.

[3/3] Yukio quickly corrected his mistake and made a more concentrated ball of wind that traveled the full twenty feet before eventually disappating. He grinned after he did so. Every now and then, Yukio had to pride himself on how quickly he was mastering the sound jutsu.

"How did I get tricked? I already told you I was a wolf." Shadow said as he threw three poison covered senbon at Yukio. "Besides, kids should mind their toungues. Especially when dealing with someone who can kill them in the blink of an eye."
