((Tolkienite is how we call someone faithful to the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Lord of the Rings Subforum thing. If the following confuses you, bear with it, for we all are confused to what the hell the priest is saying in real life weddings, sometimes.))
((DAMN EXPLORER ERRORS AND INTERNET CRASHES!!! WE HATES YOU, CRAPPY DESKTOP!))
Seeing as how almost everyone kept their mouths shut, and those that opened didn't really mean it, Menegil proceeded with the ceremony.
"Very well then. The time has come for... The Oath.
In ancient times, when the world was young and the Sun and Moon had not yet been created, Feanor, greatest among the Elves in the art of crafting, created the greatest of all gems, the Silmarilli, that contained the light of the Two Trees of Silver and Gold, that gave light to the realms of the Gods. Feanor rejoiced in his work, and adored these marvelous gems, fruit of his labour. But alas, darkness came upon the blessed realm, and Morgoth, Lord of Darkness, killed the Two Trees and stole the Silmarilli. Angered by the theft of his greatest and most beloved work, Feanor and his seven sons made a terrible oath, that would later change the course of the History of Middle Earth. He nominated Manwe, lord of the winds, and Varda, lady of the stars, as his witnesses, as he nominated Eru Iluvatar, the All-Father, that eternal darkness would befall them if they did not recover said jewels from whoever had them in their possession.
In the end, the Silmarilli, the three jewels that contained the everlasting light of the Two Trees, were lost to the sea and to the earth, and the last one taken from Feanor's sons and brought to the blessed realm by Earendil, from where he sailed forth toward the heavens. Feanor and his sons had comitted many sins during the War of the Jewels, and came out bare handed, as eternal darkness fell upon them for not furfilling their pledge.
What I mean with this sermon is that many of us take our oaths as mere words, and do not ponder on the future. If you are truly decided to do this, then so be it."
"Do you, Zach McClure, take Elainya Forrester to be your wife, and swear, Manwe and Varda being your witnesses, as well as Eru, the All-Father, that you shall love her and respect her, and that you shall be beside her through joy and sadness, through richness and poverty, through sickness and through health, until the world ceases to end?!" As Menegil finishes speaking, he tries to catch up with his breath.
