I smiled at Yumira and placed my hand on her shoulder. “Let us worry about that. Nothing is going to happen to you; if things get too hairy, just run and get help. Promise me that.” I said in a soft voice before turning to see the other man that would be joining us. I had seen him here before; he had been one of the people that had been involved in the incident with the naked woman, though I could not remember what it was that he did during it exactly. At the end of the day however that didn’t matter, I guess. I passed my hand over my forehead, flicking strands of my black hair away from it before extending that very hand toward this stranger. “Taiki Matsumaya, nice to meet you.” I said, as I eyed his scythe. “I’m not used to fighting in teams, so I’ll try to be mindful of your positioning, I wouldn’t want to burn you by accident.” I said referencing my accidental burning of Kiyoshi, him being there to witness it probably would not have left the best first impression, but this would be a great opportunity to start over. Or so I hoped. “Once everyone is ready I guess you can lead the way, Yumiru.”

Although the girl seemed worried, Taiki's words did seem to comfort Yumiru. Her gaze then moved to Usien as the boy approached and her smile return. "You must be our third member." She glanced at Taiki as he introduced himself, and then did so in kind. "Yumiru Miyamoto. It's a please to officially meet you," she said cheerfully, referring to their brief encounter earlier. She looked at Taiki a second time as he mentioned her leading the way. "Ah, right. First though..." She reached out at tapped Usien's arm non-threateningly but quickly so he couldn't shy away, and then did the same to Taiki. "There. Taiki knows this already, but my abilities revolve around supporting the two of you. I have some training in combat, but I'm not too proficient in it, so I try to stick to the back."
She paused then and looked up at the sky as fat snowflakes began to fall. "Uh oh. We need to hurry or we'll lose the trail." That said, she hurried off, walking quickly before picking up into a jog, heading in the direction of the camp.

Ussien upon meeting the two would relax a little. It seem that they were friendlier than he figured. Looking at Taiki great him, Usien would look at the hand and would stretch his own out to shake it. He didn't try exert a strong grip so he may have shown himself to be weaker than what he actually was. Usien didn't care though. Looking towards the second person, he would introduce himself to the woman as well. "Ussien. Nice to meet you both. As far as fighting in teams and positioning....well. Hopefully I won't get too burned" He stated simply. He just keep in mind to stay separated in any encounters. Sucks since he liked to do more close combat. With Taiki putting Yumiri in charge, he would get ready to follow behind her. He felt a tap on his arm, but he didn't know exactly what she did. He just figured, maybe it was something supportive given she was supporting them two. Aas the snowflakes began to fall and she took off, he hurried after her, making sure stay close as possible.

I chuckled nervously at Ussien’s comment about not getting burned, whether or not there was something behind it I couldn’t tell, but I felt more than my fair share of embarrassment for going in half cocked earlier. Regardless, there was no point in worrying about it now. Seeing the two dart off, I let out a short sigh and followed them out of the gates, keeping pace with Ussien so as to not lose sight of Yumiru.

Getting back to town took quite some time, with the combination of heavy snow, distances, and the minor injuries I'd sustained. Not to mention my joints were bothering me again. By the time the gates came into view, I was exhausted, hungry, and moody. Still, I kept my guard up because who knew what else could rear its head in the night.
Thankfully, nothing did, and I reached the gates without issue as the sun was rising. The guards approached not because of lack of recognition--although I wouldn't have blamed them in the snow--but more to make sure I was fine, which I was grateful for. I waved them off. "Don't bother Tsubaki right now. Just let her know that the hunt was a success and the road south is clear for now." I slid my blade back into its scabbard and glanced back the way I'd come. "Also, the body of the wolf can be found near the end of the forest on the road. Have a party retrieve it when you can. I don't think any animals will touch it."
They both nodded and I moved on, intending on heading for the hospital just to make sure my injuries weren't worse than I thought they were. And also to satisfy Fiorzia, who hovered worriedly over me the whole trip.

Jean passed through the village gates following behind Shea, who he had fallen behind so that the deer boy could lead them to the cave he had heard about. Even though he was already tightly bundled in warm clothes, leaving the villages still had Jean tightening the clothes around him even more as houses gave way to wind and forests. Snow was still falling, as it always was, and light blue eyes traced their white paths as they fell. On the ground, the grimy passages of many shoes and such had marred the perfect snowfalls. However, it wasn't far from the village before the impediment of humanity was almost completely erased by Mother Nature. Out here, while there were still tracks on the ground, the branches above remained almost completely pristine. The cold was harsh, but picturesque. Bowed branches covered in thick layers of white snow, sometimes until nothing of their original form could be seen, glinted in the afternoon sun.
The single-minded artist may have spent his entire walk simply staring at the branches, forgetting his real reason for coming out here, if he hadn't forced himself to look down and away. He would love nothing more than to get lost in a day searching for inspiration, but he knew better. Not a lot, but he knew at least enough to pay attention to where everyone was heading and not get separated. Definitely to not get separated. Jean glanced between Shea and Hono. He wasn't fond of the idea of either of his travel companions getting hurt. Hono was too pretty and Shea too nice.
Imagine if Hono or Jean did get lost, though... Shea had skin and clothes with enough color to stood out from the white winter, but Hono and Jean... Hono at least had some color in his clothes. Jean, the clean freak, liked to wear all white.
Honō accepts the silence that befalls the group with no complaint nor discontent. Newly gloved hands remained clasped in front of the Hari clan member, even as they calmly continued on to their destination. Walking through the gate was a much a disquieting experience as it was like turning over a page in an art book, unknowing of what grand design may be placed before them, but wanting to see. Art books. They were an item of luxury before. Now... it wasn't good to dwell. No point. A waste of time and energy. Honō had barely found a place in that world to begin with. And this one... Honō didn't even know if there could be a place...

Despite my unwillingness to lead the way for fear of getting us lost in the woods, I ended up at the front of the trio anyway. After all, I was the only one who had even a vague idea of where this cave or whatever was. So I begrudgingly pushed my concerns aside and led the way through the gates.
Any trace of the fight from before was gone, guards back in their positions and snow filling in the area were the scuffle had been, and then stomped down by boots and haphazardly cleared to help prevent people from slipping. My clumsy self would probably still end up on my rear at some point despite the effort, but it didn't go unappreciated.
Outside of the gates, I paused briefly to ask one of the guards which direction was east so I knew where to start. I good a weird look but it wasn't all that unusual to not know directions, especially without the sun being visit. He pointed to his left, my right. I thanked him and hurried away so I could take the lead again, heading off into the woods.
We made our way into the gate and wordlessly entered the village once again after a pseudo-failed mission. We were all exhausted but after a short rest, I would surely come back out here and finish what I started.

Still groggy, I made my way from the market district to the gates. I crossed my arms and saw the girl there already waiting for me. On either side, I was still flanked my by smoke clones, the same ones I made in the first fight not long ago. I offered Yumiru a smile. “Sorry for pushing you earlier. I didn’t realize in how much danger my recklessness put you.” My smile quickly faded, my face turned stone cold, but my voice was soft and caring. “You can stay if you like. I don’t want to put you in danger again.” After a short silent break, I spoke once again: “Plus, with my clones from earlier already here and the fact that I recovered some of my energy, I’m sure I can take that thing down myself, so if you’re not comfortable coming, I won’t hold it against you.”

Upon approaching Yumiru, you would likely notice another girl standing next to her. Compared to the chubbier girl, the newcomer seemed thin and small, standing a few inches shorter. She also looked younger. Much else about her was hidden by her winter clothes. She had brown eyes and hair a little further on the red spectrum than Yumiru's. The only weapon she appeared to have on her was a dagger.
Yumiru smiled seeing you, and shook her head at your apology. "No, it's fine. All that matters is that we made it out alive and uninjured." Her smile faded, though, as yours did, and then descended into a scowl when you mentioned her staying behind.
Before she had a chance to respond, though, the other girl spoke up. "Look, it's better to bring too many people than risk someone losing their life because they want to play hero."
Yumiru perked up again, and gestured to her. "By the way, this is Elisabet. She's a member of the guard, and will be helping us out this time. With all three of us, we should be able to make quick work of that yokai."
Elisabet smiled at you gently, despite her comment a moment before. "Pleasure. Ready to go when you are."

I met this new girl with a raised eyebrow, crossed arms and a shake of my head. She misunderstood me. This had nothing to do with playing the hero and everything to do with wanting to avoid collateral damage; when you are able to create smokescreens that constantly burn those inside and hurl fire balls in any direction, fighting in large groups comes with its disadvantages. Disadvantages which would undoubtedly cause me to hold back. How much I would have to hold back, an whether I would in the first place, was yet to be seen. Even though I had my reservations about all of this, I would not protest, at least, not too much. “This has nothing to do with playing the hero. You can ask Kiyoshi about that.” I considered that due diligence, Yumiru had seen what I could do and I made it a priority to keep her behind me at all times to avoid having her be hurt, but this one, well, she looked like the type to get up close and personal, so collateral damage might not be possible to avoid with this one. Still, I will do my best. “It doesn’t matter.” I said abruptly. “If we stand here and argue about this, that… thing… will likely get away and this will all have been for nothing. You lead the way, Elisabeth, Yumiru can guide you from behind and I’ll close off the rear and make sure we aren’t taken by surprise.” After saying that, I took another pause and stepped toward Elisabeth, responding to her smile with my own and an extended hand for a shake. “Taiki, the pleasure is all mine.” With all the pleasantries and my unpleasantness out of the way, I waited for the two girls to leave the village, and I followed close behind, onward to finish what we started.

__________________The Thunder Rolls || tab The guards might well have been enjoying their day before they noticed the trees rumbling in the distance, dislodging their payload of snow to the forest earth below. A tree swayed violently for a moment before another, closer, shook and swayed while the former slowed to a halt. At first the guards might well have been confused yet it would take no time at all for them to realize exactly what it meant when the trees south of the city began to sway even faster, before they all fell still and something massive lumbered in the shadows of the forest, something with multiple segmented legs and a head with far too many eyes, bigger than a house and built must like one itself. Slowly the figure rotated, hunching it's back in an unnatural way that no arachnid should ever be able to do, before a single individual, a human, and a white fox-like creature plopped into the snow as if shat from its almighty backside. The titanic beast rotated again until it towered over the girl and waited further orders. tab

As the pair received instructions, they both nodded in agreement and Elisabet lead the way through the gates toward the forest with Yumiru close behind.
