I'm wearing the pair of earrings that my Mom got me for my birthday. They're dangling earrings. They have cats on them. 3nodding

I'm going to start off by reading the poems by Momaday first, and save to do the other half of House of Dawn later.

So... here we go with my responses to certain things - that is if there is anything I want to say to it.

Momaday's focus on language seems to appear again in his poem "Angle of Geese."

The meaning behind the poem sort of confuses slightly. Though with rereading it several times, I think I might be picking up on something. Perhaps it referring to the Natives' original language, and then the Whites coming around and trying to "civilize" them, and force them to speak English. And as a result, they become like sheep. Always following each other one by one, never straying away from the new life they've been forced into.

His poem "At Risk" also mentions language, specifically words, which he mentioned in his essay "Man Made of Words."

Towards the end it sounds like he's addressing stories being told, and with his imagination (possibly during a ceremony dance) he is able to picture the ancient myths that are being told/danced about. Hence the reason for the mention of masks - the dance contains people wearing masks representing the animals.

With "The Colors of Night," it doesn't seem much like poetry. It seems more like short stories contributed to the various different colors mentioned. For some of the stories, it's easy to identify the significance of the colors in the stories (i.e. white for the bones, yellow for the moon (?), etc.), while others it takes a bit more work to figure it out. And what is up with the Green story? Is it a tree or is it smoke? Make up your mind, Momaday! Stop messing with our heads with this whole "it was only an appearance."
