"Oh yes, much more nicer; no need to use up any more energy," Vence replied, smiling as he threw his bag over his shoulder. One minor adjustment on the strap, and he was ll set. He took Mayloo's offered hand, and stood beside her.
"So, we ready?" He asked, looking forward. The river was in sight, but it was some ways away, obviously.
~~~
The city of Altyrys could be seen from all directions in the castle's watchtower. A fine view of a fine city.
"I think I can get used to this," Zevach said to himself, smiling contently. Wit hthe royal family dead, the high council had stepped up to take control. But, they were as foolhardy as the previous rulers. Rather than killing those five members, though, he had decided to spare them that fate. Instead, he had clouded their minds, weak as they were, and now officially had control of the city.
Yes, he had ordered the gates closed that very morning, before anyone could really start moving about. As agitated as the people were, no doubt, it was to his advantage. Now, the first piece had been played...
Mayloo smiled. "Hm...a nap on the boat maybe" Then she laughed alittle and flicked her hand in the air. "Nah, musn't waste a ride" Her heart began pounding for there was something that had came across her thoughts.
Instead of speaking about it or mentioning it, her face had suddenly grown red.
With simply a nod, she walked on, dragging him along side her like always towards the river in haste. Eventually it'll be in clearer view within the hour.
[And Vence is as clueless as always about people's reactions. xd ]
"Not many ways to waste a boat ride," Vence commented, keeping up to pace with Mayloo. "Though I'd imagine after a while it'd get boring. Especially for two days."
He glanced up, suqinting as the sun attempted to blind him. It was nearly noon. So, they'd reach the river a little past noon, eat lunch, and hitch a ride. Or switch the last two options; either way, lunch and a boat ride were there.
[Yes, unfortunately Zevach is up to no good as always. Don't worry, Sphinx will not have any harm befall her. whee ]
Maylo stopped suddenly as the blush drained away from her face to be replaced by surprise. "Two days?" Now the boat was assumed to be a decent size if it were to really stay there that long, if not...then Vence and her getting closer wouldn't so bad. Oh no, here came the blush again.
"I'll deal with that" She said suddenly turning around. The sooner they got there the better, but man was the sun relentless. They'd probably show up burnt or something.
Sphinx sighed "This will take much to long..." Her eyes peered from an alley in which she was leaning against the wall while watching people scramble around in tension.
"Well shot...how ever shall I follow them now?" A smile crept it's way to her lips as she raised a straw size tube to go ahead and hit a guard with a dart. Alittle, manipulation was in order. "Hm...work...is that all you think of?" She told herself while creating the guard to push people out of the way as she came foward finally.
It was as if royalty. While walking by the other confused guard, she managed to p***k him as well. Two at once wasn't too hard. He was the one to unlock the gate only for her as the other, more burly man held everyone protesting back. She slipped through like a serpent and had the gate quickly closed. "And now your done." Her once clenched hand released itself and the two men fell over unconsious. Everyone began to freak out and in return, leave the gates alone. "Your oh so welcome" Sphinx mumbled as if to Zevach.
Now to find the kids.
"Well yeah, two days is actually a good time. Better than taking four by foot," Vence said, shrugging. It didn't really matter to him, but on the other hand, four days on foot might not seem to be in the best interest for Mayloo.
Yes, he had to take in consideration her inexperience. She eould have to gradually get used to travel. He figured the best way would be to start out simple, like boat, or hitching rides. Later would come the walking, if she was up for it.
Plus, with the shorter time, that meant more time to stop by his friend's place. Maybe he could help them in some way, too. Maybe even tag along.
~~~
Zevach stepped into a rather finely furnished beedroom, smiled. A little to bright, but that could be easily amended. What he was particularly interested in was..
He walked over to the large mirror that hung on the wall nearby the large four poster bed. It would be nice to know where all the pawns were. Well, perhaps it wasn't the best term to use, "pawn." Maybe... minor characters, was a better phrase. Yes, as if this all was just a play, orchaestrated by him.
Muttering an old incantation, he st back in on of the cushioned chairs and leaned back, inspecting what the mirror showed him.
"...Hmm...so those to escaped my grasp...I knew they would," He muttered, a look of boring interest on his face. "But..ah, Shinx has also left. I suppose that makes things easier. Those kids, where are they heading, I wonder?" he asked himself, standing up, breaking the charm. Yes, no one of significant value was in this city any longer, so, without futher adeau, his plans for the city would be placed into motion. But first, a word with Sphinx. yes, a change of plans was called for.

"Oh, thank goodness it's reduced by half...that saves a sore foot or two." Mayloo smiled widely at Vence. He looked out for her.
One of her hands swinging by her side managed to hit her sword hilt a few times until she finally took a hold of it. "I need to train...it's obvious my magic is more defensive. Why not learn melee?" Looking over to Vence by her side with his armour and equipment. He should know a thing or two. "Could you help me when we have the time?"

"Are you sure about that?" Vence asked, looking her way. He wore an expression mixed between serious consideration, and slight worry. Sure, he could probably teach her, but the way he had been taught...well, that was the explanation for half the scars he bore. If he were to teach Mayloo anything, it would not be that way.
"Water is quite an effective element, in offensive terms as well as defense. Nature...Well, technically it's more of a status and effective type element; offensive and defensive action are beneficial, but secondary in natural terms. I could teach you the basic and more in depth concepts of both elements, but I can't help you after that." Vence shrugged, hoping maybe the discussion of magic might change the subject. He would have to think about it.
[Heh, yeah, school is so much fun...until you realize the work it entails. sweatdrop ]

"Yes?" She wasn't so sure about what his face told her with it's concern. Mayloo was a girl but she was willing to learn to fight if it ment the difference between life and death.
When he mentioned water she began to hold her hand as if something were in it. She was pretty much pretending to be twisting around the element. Hm...wait till they got to the boat. "I would love that" Any offer from Vence was just as good as sword fighting...for now atleast.
Stopping suddenly after releasing his hand, she allowed him to take a few steps foward before running up and jumping onto his back. Mayloo made sure to do it in a way that wouldn't hurt him. The only thing she thought of now was his reaction.

[Lucky you, I have...6 hardcover books, 3 soft-cover books, one workbook, three bonders, and several notebooks. No locker, and school code says we have to have a clear backpack, which one really crappy one can be bought for 10$. eek Thank the Lord it's block scheduling, or I would literally have no arms. sweatdrop Now, how to start this post... whee ]
Vence had no idea that Mayloo had planned to hitch a ride on his back, so when she di hop on, a brief stumble ensued, but vence recovered well enough, before either of them could get hurt. When he did recover he actually smiled.
"So, I am your transportation now, huh?" Vence asked, turning his head enough to see Mayloo.

((My world history book is the biggest one O.o lol, well I still have to bring a 5 subject notebook and two more binders. I have 3 workbooks too but they don't bother me...I'll get a chemistry book eventually but other then that dunno. 6 however....sheesh, we have 7 classes in one day, 3 of them are electives which mostly don't give out textbooks. >.< If your arm less then you couldn't type...waaaaah ))
Mayloo smiled innocently and placed her head upon one of his shoulders to lean against his own. "Only for alittle bit, I mean...I did joke around with piggy back rides so much, might as well catch one finally"
She really wasn't planning on clinging to him long. Her mind began to wander alittle bit along with her eyes. Looking at his face right there by her made her blush suddenly for Mayloo was thinking of a kiss, sort of like the one at the dining the previous night, but who knows. Being a girl ment she had a scrambled mind abit.
Giving him a tight cling of affection, she slowly slid off his back to allow him more comfort. He was in armour with a few things being carried, never good to add a person. "S-so the b-boat huh?" Mayloo managed to stutter out while quickly recovering her place a few paces in front of him. He wasn't going to see her flustered expression.
Sphinx saw the shriveled tree left behind near the fence. It's odd shape definantly had to be something 'hand crafted'. Besides, she had seen the girl tie up the poor guy to allow Vence to attack back at the ceremony. Hm...that guy...oddly looks like the one that sent her on this mission. Well, next time she sees him, she have to aquire more information.
Anyways, back to the chase, by the guess judgement of the path the tree pointed towards, she began to follow. They shouldn't be to far ahead.

[World History? I took that last year. Lemme guess...Are you a sophmore? ninja I'm in Lee county, so all the schools here are doing block sheduling. That's eight classes, four a day alternating. Not that bad, but could be better. rolleyes my classes...yeah, I have smart classes. xp I'm becoming a nerd! Noooo!]
"Hmm, well, I won't say that's not bad logic," Vence commented, Continuing to carry her with only some effort. After a few seconds or so, though, she slid off herself. When she spoke again, it was the same stutter he had heard a few times from her now, which was always accompanied by her facing away; in this case, in front of him. He had to smile at this, mainly because by now he could assume she was hiding something. He didn't know what, but it more than likely didn't matter. So, he'd leavee it alone.
"Yep, the boat. I say we have another three or so miles," Vence added. Not too far, and it was easy to walk that distance, at least for him. Now running, that was a different story. Long distance running was not his specialty.
~~~
from the withered tree's shadow, Zevach made his appearance, Just yards away from Sphinx. He had guessed she'd follow the kids, and he was right, as common. It got boring after a while, really, being right more often than anything else. He needed to watch someone unpredictable for a change. Then again, he had only just returned to his full strength not too long ago, so he didn't exactly have time to sight-see.
"Sphinx" was all he said, only barely raising his voice to call the elf. "A word, please?"
((lol, we've discussed this all before, the grade not the schedule. I'm an honors sophomore. How does a block schedule work? ))
"So another half an hour, maybe less?" She cooled down alittle with the other topic in mind. Nodding, Maylo simply accepted the distance and that it wasn't that bad at all.
Laughing alittle, she commented. "I'm glad I got off when I could, no way I'm making you piggy back me 3 miles." Her steps eventually alined with his own, or atleast until she pointed it out to herself. Humans were definantly weird like that. Randomly, she looked back up at Vence. "So how far now?" It had only been a minute or two more of walking, but she was really excited to be cruising on a boat for 2 days.
Her pace was unwavering from it's hasty speed as she marched her way down the path, atleast until a few words grabbed at her in a hault. Turning sternly upon her heels, she looked upon Zevach curiously. "I guess...but afterwards I'd like to ask you something" Approuching him with alittle lag, she stood before him and awaited his request. He was afterall paying her. Might as well listen.
[Block scheduling...not all that bad. The way we do it, there are four classes everyday, lasting eighty-six minutes each, or something like that. Lunch is abotu a half an hour long, and five minutes are between classes. So, eight classes in all, alternating each day. For us, periods one, three, five, and seven are on one day, and the next day are two, four, six, and eight.]
"Well, that depends on what you're asking," Zevach said, grinning as he pushed away from the tree.
"First, I want to say how fortunate you are upon leaving the city already. I was worried you might get caught up in the...well, that's beside the point, now isn't it?" He suddenly asked, glancing back at the city, the smile on his face fading, but a brief spark of his true self showed itself. The insanity that was masked perfectly behind his self control. After years with it, mastery over it was only obvious, but occasionally... it would slip.
"back to what I cme here for... Sphinx, I need you to follow those children, as requested earlier. But, I am ...curious about them. I ask that you hold your patience and follow them, nothing more. If I discover that you do otherwise - and trust me, I will know- You might not like the outcome," Zevach said, each word sounding more threatening than the last.
~~~
"Pretty much, give or take a few minutes," Vence replied, shrugging. He simply smiled when she ,emtiioned carrying her three miles. There was no way he could carry her that long anyway. Maybe half a mile, but definitely not three.
"How far? a few minutes less than before, of course," Vence answered, a more broader smile than before.

((That's...annoying isn't it? Like you can't resume a lesson the next day. Man I'd forget things to easily. lol))
"That I musn't speak of yet." Sphinx said while still awaiting his words. Finally he spoke, something mentioned briefly about the gates, but it was quickly passed. Another thing had taken over for a moment upon his face for there was a sense of faulter for a bit.
But like everything else, it passed. "I was following them like you asked, but I never guranteed a safe return...Why are they suddenly so important? They are a threat." Sphinx didn't care of the tension from his words, it didn't matter to her really. She was just outraged she couldn't harm.
Mayloo smiled. "Good, cause if I wanna take on some job I gotta learn things too!" She had payed attention and was trying to work it out herself. Self teaching about the roads and travel if you will.
"Boy your smiley" Smiling just as wide back, she tugged on one of his ears abit. "Where's you cat ear chesire?" Jokingly she had to mock. Maybe it was even flirting, you can never tell.
