Footnote was disappointed when the two agents led the group back to base camp. Disappointed that is, until the foal saw the damage that had been done.

"Oh no! "exclaimed the foal as he noticed the writings and the hoofprints. This wasn't the work of spooks. Spooks would not be able to get through his protective salt circle nor do the damage that lay before him. Spooks generally tended to be sad and melancholy as a rule. This was something else! That meant that possible photo evidence could be obtained!

Quick! What do the cameras say?"

A: Check the tents.

Banshee was having a moment. A long and staggering moment, as the nice old werewolf man calmly explained that there was indeed some flitty moth fella around. Which meant there was no world-weary half-living corpse person in need of a dirge and with this realisation she was struck by a terrible case of overwhelming disappointment.

Her Bad Feelings on only got worse once they’ve recovered their friends (though she was delighted to once again see her family members all in one piece) once they discovered the ruined campsite and those big words on the ground. It was obvious that they were being a nuisance and bothering some poor shy fellow who just wanted to go about his night in peace.

Banshee wandered her way over to the tents, halfheartedly poking at the material before finally sitting down on the spot, distraught and thoroughly useless.

It wasn't like hot girls pocketing her number never happened, but the day Riot stopped doing little mental victory dances over it was the day someone needed to assume she was dead. The only thing that stopped her from doing the cabbage patch all over the forest floor were it not for the very real chance that pretty girls might not want to call her immediately after making an a** of herself in a very public forum.

She saved that for the second date.

Funny how Boysie could look quite so devious for a manic pixie girl who cranked the "manic" up to 11. And here she'd been thinking the girl only had two emotions. Blind excitement, and pasta.

She would, of course, get a hoof playfully shoving that sneaky face away for her efforts.

"Sorry B, but she's gotta call me before we get to 'special friend' status. See, when a girl and an even prettier girl like each other very much- woah." Well. There goes some perfectly good tents. Or rather, perfectly good everything. It looked like Edward Scissorhooves bumbled into every single thing they brought along with. She scuffed a hoof over some of the ominous words, wrinkling her nose when she sniffed it curiously. Bad idea.

"Spooky. Can't say that our guide doesn't have a flair for the dramatic, but did she need to trash the rest of the camp?" Clearly just a part of the game. Honestly she wasn't even convinced Special Agent Dream Girl over there wasn't a part of the game. Just one, very in depth halloween spooktacular, with a host who needed to learn the meaning of subtle. Probably even set up a way for the two groups to meet back up. Smart thinking.

"Hey Boysie, hold the fort for me, okay? I'm gonna see if the cameras are still working." She didn't wait for an answer, girl was in the middle of her emotional breakdown and who was Riot to rob her of that. Once the game was over she'd take her new friend out for smores. Heal some of the hurt or whatever.

Crypt Keeper was on the same page as Agent L'eggs with her partner's outbursts and her threat of putting Agent Eggs on the alien mothership that may or may not exist helped calm him down to their presence - as well as earned a small chuckle under his breath.

Their group followed the two agents into the campsite but the momentary relief they felt at seeing the rest of their team reunited was dashed by the state of their camp. "Oh no..." The debris told enough on its own, that whatever did this was sentient enough to make words and form thoughts, so that left only a few possibilities for who was responsible. Crypt Keeper hurried to one of the cameras, unsure if it was one he had set up himself before. Maybe it was what they were looking for and his theories had been right, maybe it was the Cybergoths after they fled, it could have even been a prank by some other hunters that wanted to throw them off the trail, but there was always the possibility that this was all just a hoax and the ransacking of their camp was part of it. The only way they could know for sure was if the tapes had some answer.

A: Check the tents.

The agents seemed to take all their answers well, even surmising about the possibility of what sort of creature might be in the woods. As they spoke he began to worry more and more for Banshee, hoping she was safe with her group. He followed the agents, spying the green fire over the trees. Oh good, they were near the camp site. He felt relieved at that a bit, the little foals would be safer back at camp. Though his relief was short lived as he saw the destruction of the camp. Everything seemed to have been destroyed.

Voices came from the other side of the camp, a group of phones emerging.
Draft was relieved to see the rest of the group was unharmed, especially his granddaughter. Though he could see the dejected look on her face as she looked over the tents. Either she'd been looking forward to getting a good night's sleep or she hadn't achieved her dream of putting a soul to rest.

Walking over he kissed her forehead and put a hoof on her shoulder, "You alright my little bass drop? Normally that sad face is reserved for the dead. Come on, lets go through the tents together. Make sure nothing important is missing."

The cameras! Torte had worked so hard to set those up! She rushed to check them, after all, if someone had come to trash the place, maybe the cameras caught them. That is, if they hadn't ruined them all...

What sort of person would even do that to their campsite, anyway? Really dang rude! She considered pressing charges, if they managed to catch him. Put her career to work.

B: Check the ground- the lettering and hoofprints.

Fright Night listened eagerly to the werewolf's tale and delighted in himself the mention of so many other classic and iconic monsters the stallion now had to meet in person. Or at least try in person. His spirits remained high as they journeyed back to the camp and located the other half of their group.

And then he noticed the state of the campgrounds.

The tents were in shambles. The cameras were broken and littered across the ground. It looked like food supplies had been riffled through and all the marshmallows were gone. But most of all...there were piles of ash scattered about the campsite, all in the form of letters. Letters that spelled out the same phrase repeatedly. 'GO AWAY'.

Fright Night felt his spirits crumble as he watched the others spread out and search what was left. Most took to the cameras, checking for any footage of what or who might have been caught in the act. It was a good idea but Fright Night couldn't help but be drawn else where. He passed by a torn down tent and stopped just in front of an ash pile. His head tilted to the side somewhat sadly. He was starting to second guess their trek into the forest in search of monsters now. It was clear someone wanted to be left alone if they went through all this trouble to spell out letters with ash....which....was a pretty impressive feat in and of itself.

He leaned down closer to get a better view of the ash drawn letters, curious if the mothpon fella had done this with just the ashes in the fire pit they created or..... did he already have ample amounts of ash for some reason? Did he bring his own bag full of it just for purposes like this? If so.....well.....why??

Hybrid kept an eye on Footnote, not that she cared or anything. Naw, she was just watching the colt because his enthusiasm for all of this was interesting to say the least.

However, when the whole herd got back to the campsite, the alicorn groaned at the sight. “Ungh, they bucked up our camp!!” That was quite annoying.

While Footnote ran off to investigate the closest camera, Hybrid followed nearby. Since her little friend was looking into filming the perpetrator, Hybrid decided to check up on some nearby hoof prints.

"Geez, what a wreck," Nightvine says, looking at the ground. "I don't think any alien would do this. Unless they also just happen to have hooves and spell in English."

Nightvine looks at the prints, there's tons of them. Either it was one very, very active Phony or a whole herd of very active Phonies.

"I don't think they even took anything except the marshmallows. Weird, if something's living in the woods, you'd gather resources. This is wasteful."

D: Check something else, and that is the rummaged-in remains of the coolers and whatever else has been upturned and searched through.

"Jessica is working hard, just like you," He laughed, before they returned to the camp and witnessed the carnage - well, there went the mood, especially amongst the grimfaced searching Phonies (and the occasional wailing).
He carefully picked his way to the mess of coolers and associated containers - just what was the perpertrator searching for, besides the marshmallows? Were the crackers and chocolate still present?
If they were, it was clear what the culprit was not making:

S'mores.

Perhaps there would be something left at the crime scene to clue them in on the thief's intentions. Besides, he really needed to report to Prowl before a helicopter came flying.
"Sky Flare reporting," he whispered, away from the Phony agents, "Camp group led back to the campsite by L'eggs and Benedict." He left out all the juicy details, just in case.
"Campsite has been ransacked and vandalised by escaped perp. Marshmallows confirmed missing.

Let it go, Prowl. The ravers are gone."

D: Check something else, and that is the perimeter of the camp site.

Labyrinth hung back a few moments to get Jenkin's contact info, she wanted to visit him again whenever she was in town!

But ah, it was nice to see the other group. Looks like everyone was accounted for and no one seemed hurt. A couple new faces she sort of instantly distrusted, something about suit types she's never liked.

"Oi!" she barked at Fire Flight when she spotted him in the throng. "There is a big a** gorilla just roaming around in the forest. Rescue it or something before it hurts someone or itself!"

As for the trashed camp, well, she wasn't sure about this. She'd seen a wreck home site a time or two and she was suspicious.

"Almost seems like a prank.." she mumbled quietly to herself. "Or at least a misdirection..." She peered at warning before heading to the outer rim of the camp, shuffling through the grasses, checking behind rocks and trees. Whoever it had been, they may have been waiting for awhile for the group to leave camp, and they'd made a right mess before the left. Surely there could be some sort of evidence of who or what ever trashed the camp.

B: Check the ground- the lettering and hoofprints.

Diamond stared down at the words across the ground, following the approximate trail of hoofprints. GO AWAY...GO AWAY...GO AWAY...how many times did a person have to write GO AWAY across the same campsite?

Tell them to go away, will they? Tell them to go away...

Each repetition twisted the screw within a little tighter, till she was crouched over the last cluster with a marginally unhinged smile across her little Babby muzzle. Nobody* told Diamond what to do. (*Unless they had reasonable authority over her.) She touched a deliberate hoof to the ashes and licked it.

Yep. Tasted like ashes, alright.

Giggling softly over the agent's exuberant personality about aliens, the foal follow them closely until they got back to camp. He tapped his hoof lightly on the ground, feeling a bit lost as everyone disperse around him before his ears perked up at the mention of the cameras. "oh right!"

He trotted back into the woods to find the tree he left the trail cam on.

D: Check something else, and that is the trees/plants/underbrush of the campsite's perimeter.

Muck's instinct was to check the canopy, while everyone seemed to be looking down at the ground, his gaze went upwards. He wanted to see if there were broken branches, signs that someone was either still lurking in the darkness to watch them now that their night vision was shot to hell and back.

It was only pure coincidence that his investigation had him unintentionally following after Labyrinth who'd gone to alert staff of the gorilla as well as explore the perimeter. After all, it wouldn't make sense to stick too close to the fire given that it was the light source.

Spider listened intently to everything Jenkins said, from the rock things to the… husband? Well, that certainly made Spider feel better! With a smile and nod to the werewolf, the colt happily set his mind back on the task at hand:

To catch a critter!

And not a werewolf critter. A much more flitty critter. A critter… That the werewolf and a lake monster had seen? Spider resisted the urge to rub his temple. This whole 'creatures in the woods' thing was getting a little out of hoof… Still, he was bouncing excitedly when Jenkins took the lead! It was about time they had a solid lead anyway, since their tour guide didn't seem to have much more of a clue than they did before she just… poofed… Spider let his mind wander back to the thoughts of her with a mane-eating creature, and was about to giggle at himself when they suddenly found their other half.

And a couple extras.

And a destroyed camp.

"Oh… oh no… oh no oh on oh NO!" Spider pranced in place for a second, looking at all the ruin, then darted anxiously around to each and every bit of camera he could find. "No no no no no not the cams… why the cams… Noooooo…" Finally, he sat down on his tail, ears drooped low, and sadly batted at one of the camera bits. This… this was not how this night was supposed to go… It was supposed to be fun, and adventurous, and spoopy… now… He looked around again, at the prints he just figured were left over from all of them being there before, the empty marshmallow bags, and the ominous ash warnings… 'GO AWAY' they said. But Spider didn't want to go away. Especially not now. Was it the creature who did this? All they wanted was to see it… But maybe it really doesn't want to be seen? The colt thought about how the werewolf said the creature the lake monster saw was really shy… And once again, he felt a tug at his heartstrings.

Ok, this was straight up bologna. Spider was NOT a heartstrings kind of phony, and he was getting tired of that emotion coming around. But… he couldn't exactly make it go away…

Unless…

"Miss Odd-Eyes tour guide…" He mused out loud… "What have you been up to…?"
