In that case, a prompt can be fairly useful. o wo Take Titus and Kimiko, for example. Titus is over three hundred years old, and a generally serious and straightforward person. He doesn't always "get" kids, but he's not really crazy or anything. Kimiko, on the other hand, is a terrifying sociopath with few social manners and cares jack squat for anything outside of her immediate interests.
Neither of them is inherently funny, but despite that, they can still be very amusing when put together... simply because Kimiko's so bad with social norms that she can cause the most ridiculous forms of torment and never even notice. XD
So... I guess my point is that you don't need to have wild or crazy people to be funny. ^^ Just look for situations that can fit your characters, maybe push their buttons a bit, and go from there!
