but a little more uniformity in colors would be nice

I'd try wearing an item and then checking out other ones.
It's be a bit easier.

that wouldn't help anyway, they never have properly arranged colors.. its always been artist preference.. especially in the past.. many newer items have been closer in shade to one another but the older items will obviously forever remain mismatched

Why can't we create our own clothes in gaia? Or change their colors (im thinking sims 3 here)?

because they haven't yet figured out a good enough way to profit of of it to condone even working on such a system, also they receive thousands of user submissions that they either do nothing with or they get "inspired" (aka rip them off and give no credit what so ever to the creator of its concept) by..
Even when i was on staff which was several years ago before they were as greedy as they are now.. they still rejected so much of our ideas, yes the ideas of their own staff.. and then ripped them off and gave no credit to us
