"Just stab the panel a lot, that ought to do it." Will quipped as they moved. Adrian's base wouldn't be too far from the city but they needed to hurry.
Adrian issued orders for soldiers to move out onto the field and begin disabling the ground units Sybil had sent out. He still hoped to turn the war machines so he didn't have them destroyed but in a matter of moments he would be able to destroy them as easily as they could destroy him. The rebels had secured the Hangar now, they were armed for the final strike. Now the end began.

Amelia Cross Amelia smiled at that, picturing herself wildly stabbing an enforcer bot with a knife. She figured Sybil was probably aware of where they were now, but she also figured it was too busy fighting for the Hanger to really worry about them. She was useful before battles, not during them. They hadn’t gone too much further when the sounds of the battle suddenly stopped. ’Well someone won the fight for The Hanger’ she thought to herself, but then something else occurred to her. The equipment Adrian had been after combined with the abrupt way the gun fire stopped. “You don’t think they used the EMP do you?” she asked, but didn’t wait for an answer, instead taking off at a dead run towards the Hanger. Not that she could do anything for him anyway if he had been standing in the blast radius.

Will didn't have time to respond before Amelia darted off towards the Hangar. It was only after she asked that he understood what she meant and began running behind her. He overtook her at some point but slowed down so she could keep up. The resistance fighters got a lot of cardio during their training.
They would arrive at the temporary command tent where Adrian was issuing orders and regulating the troop movements in the battle. When they did they would find Adrian sitting in a chair with a few members of the resistance around him. He was giving orders. Telling them what weapons to bring and what vehicles could best withstand Sybil's defenses. Once the orders were given the team dispersed and Adrian was left sitting in the chair. He was alive but he was pale. His heart was still beating but slowly now and without clear rhythm. Time was short.

Amelia Cross Amelia arrived at the command tent out of breath, the side where she had broken her rips before burning in protest. She was beginning to find that even after healed they would sometimes bother her, especially after strenuous activity. Cardio was hardly a part of her old job and it was a little embarrassing how quickly Will had caught up to her. Pushing her pains away, Amelia was more than a little relieved to see Adrian was still alive though anyone could see he wasn’t well. She waited while Adrian gave out his orders, catching her breath and holding her side. When the others left she blurted out, “You idiot! Why would you set of the EMP? You’re lucky you aren’t dead!”, forgetting that she wasn’t exactly supposed to know about his heart.

Fortunately for Amelia, Adrian had larger problems than how how she found out about his heart. "Thought you'd be proud. Always talking about saving people. I did what had to be done now you do the same. Out by the warehouse entrance to the Hangar there are three war machines. I need you to go and reprogram them for us. Give us control." His words came out with pained breaths but the sense of control was still there. He had a war to finish and he'd be damned if he didn't live to see the end of it.

Amelia Cross “Except this rebellion doesn’t exist without you Adrian. You aren’t expendable like the rest of us and this doesn’t just end with the fall of Sybil. Someone needs to guide the people after Sybil is gone.” Amelia insisted. Adrian had disagreed with her last time she had said they needed a leader after Sybil and she had let the subject dropped. They needed to destroy the machines first, but now they were so close. There had to be a solution to his heart problem, she just needed time to find it. Time she no longer had. She was so frustrated by the whole thing that it took a moment for her to realize what else he had said. “Wait…did you say war machines? Sybil doesn’t have war machines.” It was a statement of fact before she pushed her way out of the command tent to look at the battlefield below. They weren’t hard to spot and she could feel the colour drain from her face as her eyes fell upon the machines which could only have one purpose. To rain down death. Just as quickly as she vanished, Amelia reappeared in the tent. “I’ll deal with them, but I’ll need a computer. Just please destroy them after.” She knew she didn’t have any right to ask Adrian any favours, but no one should have access to that kind of weaponry. “Sybil will probably be sending reinforcements soon. It’ll know if you had a second EMP the first will have destroyed it.” No criticism or trying to order him about, just a simple statement about what Sybil's next move would probably be. As long as the fight was at the Hanger, the Tower was safe.

"It doesn't matter. We have to win and it was the easiest way." Adrian responded quietly. He looked towards Will and gave him a slight nod which delivered a message Will understood before leaving the tent. Adrian just sat in his chair looking towards the ground as he thought. A few moments later Will came back in with a tablet that Amelia could use to reprogram the machines. "We'll be mobile and heading towards the tower by the time it's reinforcements arrive. " As Adrian explained the rest of the resistance had begun moving in and out of the hangar arming themselves with missile launchers, automatic weapons, tanks, armored trucks, and bombs. However there was one truck that was left behind. It was the one truck loaded with explosives, the truck intended to destroy the tower. It wold be the last one deployed once the rest had cleared a path.

Amelia Cross Amelia took a breath. “What is done is done.” She said relenting. There wasn’t much point in continuing to berate him about it, though she was having serious doubts about what life after Sybil would look like without Adrian. She mumbled a quiet thanks to Will as she took the tablet from him and gave a slight nod at Adrian’s explanation. “You are not allowed to die. I am not done with you yet.” Amelia informed the Director before exiting the tent. Even she had to concede that the battle head was the priority and trying to find a way to save Adrian would need to wait. Sybil would not sit idly by.

Adrian only gave a slight nod and waiting until Amelia had left the tent. Will was the first to speak between the two of them. "Did they run a test on your heart before we arrived?" Adrian nodded and Will continued "How long?" "24 hours. Maybe less. The EMP fried the device, it's running on the backup charge. " Adrian responded as he pushed off his chair. Once he was on his feet he swayed slightly and nearly fell forward before he managed to gain his footing. He was still pale but he would be able to keep moving for a little while longer. "What do we do once you're gone. The plan was for you to lead us, destroy Sybil and take charge." "The plan was for my father to lead us. He died and I was a compromise. Now I'll die and you will compromise again." Adrian countered as he moved over to the table with the areal map of the warehouse entrance. It was intense to think about the significance of this single spot. This would be the place where it began and ended. Years from now in history classes across the globe people would look back on this moment and this small bit of land and remember the people who beat Sybil. "Will, I need you to head into the Hangar and tell the rest of the resistance. I'll be giving my last will and testament to Amelia, when I'm gone, ask her for it. Play it before the rest of the resistance. Hell play it on the remains of the Tower if you ant to be symbolic." All authority had drained from his tone. All that remained was a friendly inflection, a last request. Will just nodded and headed out of the tent to tell the others. With Will gone Adrian set a small camera on the table and sat in his chair. He filmed his last will and testament then downloaded it into a small flash drive that would project his message in hologram form.
With the message filmed Adrian slid the drive into his pocket and grabbed the cane that the doctors had gotten him. Using it he moved from the tent and down to the field where he expected Amelia to be reprogramming the war machines. He wanted to talk to her at least one more time in private and this was the only privacy they would be able to have with the impending battle.

Amelia Cross By the time Adrian made it down to where the war machines were parked, Amelia had moved onto the second one. The first had taken a decent amount of time, but the second and third would be completed much faster since she could simply copy the code from the first one. The tablet was laying on the tread of the machine, with a long black cable snaking underneath. Having the access panel there made sense since it was the least armoured part and it would be less likely to get hit, however it was a pain without a lift. A few curse words and a grunt of effort later Amelia appeared from underneath with a specialized tool she used to open the access panel in one hand and some sort of chip with a few torn wires sticking out of it in the other. It wasn’t exactly professional and she was sure her former co-workers would be taken aback if they knew she had left the rest of the wires dangling inside, but without proper tools and more time there was little help for it. “Adrian!” She said in surprise as she stood up. “What are you doing here? I could have come to you.”

"Could have, but you didn't. So I came out here." Adrian responded as he looked around at the dead on the field. He had sent them here to die and it hurt him. Putting himself above them and staying hidden from the fight. Who was he to tell them what to do when he could not do it himself. "I wanted to talk about what comes, after." Adrian paused to directly mention his death. He would get around to it but he didn't like accepting the idea yet. "I've filmed a set of instructions for the resistance encase I don't make it. Guidelines for what to do with Sybil gone. I'd like you to play it for the Resistance after the battle. "

Amelia Cross Amelia could hardly stop herself from rolling her eyes at him. It wasn’t as if she was clairvoyant and knew he wanted to speak with her again, but he could have sent someone else to fetch her. The conversation took a serious turn though, one she wasn’t expecting. She was relieved to hear he had actually put some thought into life after Sybil, but his request was odd to her. “Why me? Wouldn’t some like Will be better? Someone you actually trust?”

"You're the only person I know will survive the final attack. The only one who will undoubtedly be there to see the end." Adrian responded before looking towards the ground. He had another request, one that was far less cheery than the one he had just made. "When I'm gone I'd like to be buried where the tent is. I'd like my grave to be in the place where we finally beat Sybil and mad the world free again."

Amelia Cross “Are you not sending me to the Tower with everyone else?” Amelia asked. Will had suggested everyone would be there including herself, but it was the only she could think of that she would undoubtedly survive. “We’ll build a monument.” She vowed. “With luck you will be able to design it yourself, and I won’t need to play your instructions. Once I am done here, we should talk to the medics. I would like to know more about the device they gave you. Maybe I can fix it, or there is always a transplant.” Will said he wouldn’t survive another surgery, but how did they know if they didn’t try.

"You're going but you wont be going into the building. You will help coordinate the war machines attacks on the Tower's exterior." Adrian clarified before addressing the rest of what Amelia said. "Don't. I don't want a monument, I don't want a statue. Just a grave." Then came a long pause where Adrian struggled to find the words. Partially because he was struggling to speak in general. When the words came Adrian let them flow without restraint. "Hope is the worse thing I can curse you with. Amelia, I feel you misunderstand the 'device' on my heart. It was never meant to save me. All it was ever supposed to do was buy me time and I threw that time away when I set off the EMP. A transplant would require taking the life of another person and I will not do that to anyone."
