O’Sullivan stood listening to O’Connor a few smiles playing across his face as he mentioned the Spanish wife, and Shayla, and the other few things. The Chinese opening opium dens didn’t really bother him much. The Chinese were small penies in O’Sullivan’s mind, “Who does trust the krauts? Them and the Wops are the only ones to really worry about.” He shrugged, “They’re obeying the truce now, but they’ve got something up their sleeve. I mean you’ve seen the papers. The b*stards can’t even get their own country settled down.” He shrugged, “How long do you think these truces will last before someone tries something.” Of course by ‘someone’ O’Sullivan meant the Germans, he knew they were an agressive people, so it only stood to reason that they would try a push first.

"I do not know my friend, but I am resolved when the blow falls it will not be a sucker punch aimed at us. I need to find Riley Dunne to do a little spying for me. The little lad is rather good at being unseen." Egan said proudly that was often how people started as eyes and ears of knee breakers.

O’Sullivan nodded, “Yeah, I have to say though, getting the weapons off the trains with the Spanish having so much influence up there was a bit difficult.” He shook his head lightly, “I’d kind of like to see someone take them down a peg.” A smile graced his lips as he thought about it, “Maybe the Kraut’s will try it?” Honestly he hoped they would, he needed an excuse to kill more of them. It seemed like it was about the only thing he was good for anymore. He’d managed the deal in New York, and was starting to get the hang of how the Mob worked, but deep down there was always that lust, that desire to go back into the rush of combat.

Egan nodded "It would be wonderful if the Germans made a move against the Spanish, especially if it happened in the train yards, then we could clean up the survivors and take a bigger slice of the train yards and perhaps squeeze the Spanish out of the small section of docks they control. Barring that we could always make our move and pin it on someone else..." Egan was tossing out ideas and thinking aloud but he knew he could say what he wanted in his place. The few times people tried to talk out of turn they ended up with cement waders.

It was international politics at it’s best. The game that had been played in Europe for years. Anything was fair game, but either it had to be done in response to someone elses action, OR it had to be made to look like it was someone elses fault. O’Sullivan’s mind went to work on how this could be done, as he understood that a greater cut in the rail yards would make it much easier to bring in continental shipments, rather than having to rely on the docks, which were always crawling with every sort of goon known to the city, “Well we’ve got two options... either try and pin it on the Krauts anyway, or maybe make it look like the Feds were trying to do some clean-up.” He looked at O’Connor, though if you could get me a few boys that served in the war, who know a little German I could make it look like the dirty Krauts did it easy.” He smiled wickedly, “Just make a night raid and be sure to shout in German a lot. NO one would know the difference. You know their Mausers and our Springfields sound similar, especially to a Spaniard who wouldn’t know the difference anyway.”

"True enough, the only problem is the Germans will know the differance. The trick is to fool them and not bring the feds down on us. Little Edgar is all bursting at the seems to show the worked what his stooges can do." Punctuating his speech with a long drag from his cigarette he smiled. "you want a cig or a drink, I never even asked ya."

Brian went back up. He could partially hear the bosses conversation. Knocking, he entered. "I'm about to leave. As to the framing of the German mafia... I think I got the weapon for you. Though it doesn't shoot well. Sounds the same. Let me set up and experiment and you'll have your guns." He smiled a sly smile. Chuckling to himself. "Oh so much more space and experiments to be made."

Kelly Bauer {NPC}
User Image
Kelly Bauer had just gotten out of rehearsals for the latest vaudville production that was being worked on at the Chicago Theatre. She’d finally made some what of a name for herself after five years of working her tail off there, starting as a chorus part and then an understudy who never really saw stage time. That had all changed now though. She was fainally getting the recognition she always felt she deserved.
Kelly’s life had been filled with rejection, so to be accepted by someone was a wonderful change in her life. She was half Irish and half German, which was a dangerous mix in a city that contained very powerful mob factions of both nationalities. However neither wanted anything to do with her. She’d worked briefly as a prostitute in the German brothal for three years but she was never treated well, was always given the worst customers and hardly made anything for her efforts.
Kelly took a cab from the south end of the city up to the club that she knew her friend Roxy worked at. It was an Irish club. She knew it probably had ties to the mob, but she didn’t realize that it was their headquarters. Kelly had been around long enough to know she’d never really be accepted by either of her nationalities, and never trusted. She didn’t care though, she wasn’t on a sinister mission, she merely wanted to see her friend.
Kelly walked in and saw Roxy standing next to the bar sipping on her drink. She walked over and smiled ignorning the whistles of a few slightly inebriated patrons, “Hey doll.” She said with a smile, “What are you doing when you get done here?”

O’Sullivan nodded, “The German’s don’t have a large presence in the rail yards do they? Besides, no one trusts the Krauts after the war anyway.” He laughed, “So even if the Germans did try to protest their involvement, no one would believe them.” He turned as the door opened and the young man stepped in O’Sullivan didn’t recognize him, but the fact that his fellow Marine hadn’t made short work of him told O’Sullivan that he must have been an ally. He said nothing, just let the boss do his business, but the thought of a drink began to sound better and better. Surprisingly O’Sullivan had never taken up smoking. Almost everyone he’d known in the Marines had done it, but he just never saw much of a point.
“What sort of weapon?” He finally asked, curious to see what the young man had up his sleeve. During the war O’Sullian had made it a point to learn as much about as many weapons as he could, “Whatever it is, it’s gotta work better than that damned Chauchau.” He said mocking the French-made machine gun that had been given to the Americans upon their arrival in France. The only trouble was the thing hardly ever worked, which was why most American’s never used it, preferring instead the British made Louis gun.

Roxy sipped on her water when she saw that Kelly walked in the door. "Kelly my darling! What a pleasant surprise to see you on this side of town." Ever since Kelly left the German brothel she purposely thought of herself as too good for the lower side of town only to stay away from the likes of those people. Kelly also tried to stay away from anything German or Irish but this was an acceptation because Roxy accepted her even though she was half Irish. The two had become friends through working at the theatre and performed every Saturday night there. Sometimes on their off time the spent some time together. "Do you want to go to my place and have a few drinks?" Grace suggested to get Kelly out of the Irish bar and to a place where they could have some liquor out of public.

Kelly kept herself away from the more active areas of town. She knew that she could get into trouble, being thought of as a spy for either side, but she was connected to neither. That had left her with a very few number of friends, most of whom she’d met in the theater. Roxy was one of them, which was why she’d taken the risk of venturing that far north into the Irish controled terrotiry, “I figured I’d come to you for once.” She said with a slight laugh, her eyes constantly moving around the club not wanting to draw attention to herself, but it seemed her looks and attitude were doing that anyway, “Sure... were you planning on heading home, or do you have to perform again?” She asked, not sure whether the singer was done for the day or not. She leaned on the bar and looked at her friend wondering what they would do next. Drinks at her place sounded delightful, but she had to wonder where Roxy had managed to come across the liquor.

Brian nodded. Pulling out a small book filled with notes. "Amongst many of us weapon developers we believe their is a way to silence a weapon." Placing the book down. Showing a series of cylinders. "Brian by the way. Weapons maker and soldier for the Irish mob. About to open my own shop. Use to work in the basement." He pointed at a few of the drawings. "If I can do the math properly… our springfields can sound exactly like the German rifle. Otherwise… I have a mini-tank design."

"Yes, why don't we go back to my place. You seem to be uncomfortable and we are getting eye-balled. I am done with my shift but I always get some water before I go home. Those stage lights get hot as you know. You caught me just in time I was about to leave. Why don't we get going then." Roxy said putting on her coat. Before leaving Roxy turned to the bar keep and said "If you see O'Sullivan and he comes back in town tell him I am at my place. I know he will be returning sometime soon." Roxy said just so he knew where she was. He had written her a letter and said he would be home sometime this week but they didn't know when. The two exited the building and walked to Roxy's apartment which was close by.

O’Sullivan listened to Brian interested in his ideas for making their Springfields sound like Mausers. They were both bolt action rifles and both fired heavy rounds, so the thought of making them sound even more like the weapon of the enemy intrigued him, “Interesting. I’d be happy to see what you come up with, with the bosses permission of course.” He held out his hand, “Richard O’Sullivan, Lieutenant.” He said, though he’d almost said Sergeant until he remembered that no such rank existed in the mob. He turned his attention back to O’Connor, “How about it boss? Why not pin some sh•t on the Krauts?”

Kelly smiled and nodded in response to Roxy’s comment about the stage lights, “Oh Heavens yes! They really do.” She laughed a little as she looked around noticing the stares of all the guys, “We’re getting more than eye-balled darlin’.” She said with a smirk as she stood up and walked towards the door while Roxy told the bar-keep to let her boyfriend know where she’d be. Kelly smiled as they exited feeling a bit of relief, “Sorry I never really feel comfortable in those places. She didn’t really want to go into why, but being only half that nationality had made her an outsider by most.
Kelly walked with Roxy towards her apartment. She knew it wasn’t far, which was why she didn’t mind walking, “So when are you gonna quit that dump and come work at the theater full time? A girl like you could get a job easy.. especially with some of the shows we do.” She laughed lightly as the pair walked her anxiety going down the further and further they got from the Irish club.
