Mischief perked up when Estelle began to wake. "Shhh, take it easy sister. Here." He lifted the glass of water up to her lips."Drink." After, she gently pushed Estelle back onto the couch and rung out a wet cloth from the bucket. "Rust is fine. He and Bongo are having a chat outside." She wiped the sweat off of the human girl's brow, rinsed it and folded it up, placing it softly on her head. "Just relax, the anti venom hasn't flushed all of the poison out yet."

Rust stared at his feet. He knew Gray was right, and it stung him more than the bruise appearing on his cheek. "We were just going for a walk..." He said weakly. Bongo stood there, livid, but his anger was ebbing. After all, Rust was still technically a pup. He sighed.

"Grrrrr.... Listen, next time you think about taking off, at least tell someone know where you're going. We could have warned you about the mermaids, and this could have all been avoided. Like it or not...." Bingo looked back at the Den, "We're family." he turned and walked inside.

Rust stood out there for a long minute. Family... It had been a while since he had heard that word directed at him. It was hard to wrap his head around the thought of Bongo, the guy who had attacked him and Estelle, the reason Rust was now a werewolf, was now calling him brother, and Rust felt okay with it. He was ashamed more than ever now. He slugged his way up the steps and back into the rec room. He spotted Estelle and came to kneel at her side. "Estelle? I'm so sorry..."

Estelle sipped the water from the glass gratefully. She barely even knew this girl, but she was taking care of her as if they were siblings. She had never had someone who cared over her so much, other than the maids when she was sick. It was nice being cared for, but at the same time, she wanted to get up and move instead of sit still. But at the comment that Rust was fine, Estelle relaxed a little bit. Had he saved her? What had happened?
Slowly, she leaned back against a pillow and rested her head. Her chest heaved up and down as she breathed slowly and deeply.

Estelle was highly uncomfortable, so occasionally she would flinch or shift as she lay there, trying to find a better position, though none seemed to aid her. She could still feel the poison slowly drifting away from her bloodstream, and the pain that was left behind felt mild. When Rust came to her side, she blinked at him and sighed, reaching out to touch him, but her hand quivered weakly. "It's...it's okay... not your fault," she replied, just wanting to feel the warmth of his hand in hers.

Rust took her quivering hand, steadying it with his own and wrapping it in both of his hands. He wanted to argue, it was really his fault. If he hadn't wanted to see the mermaids... He should have stayed on the shore with Estelle. Hie eyes were pained, seeing her like this, and because, of him. He couldn't even rescue her. Bongo had to come save the day for both of them.

Mischief left him to care for Estelle, seeing as he looked like he was not going to go anywhere else. "If anything happens, Call me." and with that, she left the room.

Rust laid his head down on the cushions Estelle lay on, watching and listening to her breath. If she needed anything, he would get it for her.

Estelle watched the girl go, her eyes watering for some unknown reason. Maybe they had become sensitive from the saltwater, or maybe she was just emotional. She blinked, tears rolling down her cheeks. "W-water?" she asked, her bottom lip quivering. She didn't like this feeling of weakness; usually she would be used to it, but for some reason she wasn't enjoying not being able to do anything. She felt like a little girl again, being taken care of and watched over every moment. The pain that had been in the back of her neck dissolved slowly and she sighed in relief. "What happened?" she asked, "The mermaids, they..." More tears spilled over her cheeks; she had no strength to hold them back.

Rust held the glass of water to her lips, helping her to drink. This seemed familiar, but reversed. He wiped her tears away with a finger. "The mermaids are bad news, but now we know." he said gently. He felt sadness and guilt welling up inside of him, and he hid his face in the couch by Estelle's head, his hair brushing against her cheek. How could he have been so reckless?

Estelle nodded, taking a long sip of the water. It was cool and surprisingly sweet to the taste, and soothing to her throat. She reached up next to her to brush her fingers against his face. "I'm so glad you're...okay." She could hear her own steady heartbeat in her ears, thumping against every word she said. She searched for his face and smiled weakly at him, a tiny sparkle in her eyes.

Rust heard her speaking to him, and he buried his face deeper into the cushions. She was worried about him? After everything, she was still looking out for him?! The cushions were soaking up the moisture coming from his eyes. That was it. He clenched his fists, slamming them onto his thighs. He lifted his head, looking at her with flushed cheeks. "Everything is going to be fine." He said, soft but firmly. He brush her hair out of her face, running the palm of his hand up her forehead and resting it on her hairline. He leaned in and kissed her forehead before replacing the cool cloth there. "Just rest. I'll be here when you wake up, so sleep. Okay?"

Estelle looked at him, still a little worried about him, but he didn't have enough strength to comfort him. She really wanted to though. Slowly she leaned back in the cushions and exhaled. "Okay," she said, her smile fading as she closed her eyes and drifted into sleep, her hand still touching his.

Rust slipped away from her when he was sure she was asleep. He went in search of Bongo, or Garrett. H found Garrett. The large silent man listened as Rust explained what he wanted to do. He wanted to train. Bongo seemed to be a good trainer for the physical needs to control the beast, but Garrett was both strong and mentally sound. Garrett agreed to help him.

Hours later, Rust was both physically and mentally drained, but Garrett was not satisfied. "I've sat here for hours, how does this help?"

"Quiet your mind, quiet the beast." Garrett said simply.

"But It won't!" He had tried to clear his mind, but the recent events were plaguing his mind. "I can't stop thinking."

"Try to see him."

"What?"

"Look at the beast. Find his weakness. Exploit it."

"I don't understand."

"Think."

"Gah! I have been!" Rust threw his hands up in defeat. "I need a break."

"No."

"Yes!" He stormed out, deciding to check on Estelle.

Estelle had a peaceful sleep for the most part, allowing her body to adjust and emit the poison. She woke up a few times during her sleep, but everything was hazy and she ended up falling back asleep within five minutes time. Her skin was warming up, but the wet cloth helped the fever go down, as did the antidote. After a few hours, Estelle's body was perfectly fine except for the ache in her muscles and joints and the leftovers of a killer headache. She sat up slowly, then realized she was too weak to reach for the water that was on the table. She leaned back and sighed deeply, regaining the focus in her vision. She felt exhausted and frail, but very much alive.

As Rust approached the rec room, he saw Estelle coming too. he jogged the rest of the way, lowering himself next to her. "Hey!" he exclaimed softly, "How do you feel?" He checked her temperature. It was better, if not cold. But then again, ever since being bit, everything was colder. He assumed his body was constantly hot now. He saw she had been reaching for the water and grabbed the glass, holding it up for her.

Rust was pretty wiped from his training with Garrett that seemed to go nowhere, but he tried not to let it show.

Estelle took large gulps of the water; it felt so good down her throat. She closed her eyes for a moment and breathed deeply, allowing her lungs to feel the air again that she was so deprived of. Slowly, she sat up and rubbed her head. "Thank you," she said to him, wincing at the pain that stung her muscles and skin. She looked at the long purple scratches on her arms and legs, and was surprised to see she was wearing new, dry clothes. "I... How..." she paused for a moment, completely confused. But as everything came flooding back to her, her eyes widened and she threw her arms around Rust, burying her face into his shoulder. She didn't say much else, she just wanted his embrace.

Rust sighed and smiled as she burried her face into his shoulder. He held her, one hand rubbing her back and the other holding the back of her head protectively. "Hey, it's alright. We are safe here." He whispered into her ear. He was so warm that her body felt cool.

Goliath had reported what he had found, and with this information, Genevieve was able to send the spirits in the right direction. It had taken a day, but now she had their location, and whats more, the target seemed to have stumbled into a werewolf pack. How interesting. The little princess was making some very unusual friends. Even more juicy, the spirits had informed her that her companion, the scrawny boy she had fled with, had been turned. "Well what do you know. This might be quite fun." She climbed up her furry and feathered beast and they took off to storm the castle, so to speak.

Estelle wasn't crying, but she was shaking rather violently. As he rubbed her back, she relaxed however, feeling calm in his warm embrace. The warmth of his body melted into hers. For the first time in a while, she felt safe. A sudden realization came over her as she lifted her head and pressed her forehead against his lightly. "What if something happens and we have to run away again?" She tried to keep her lower lip from quivering, but failed, unable to control her sudden worry. Her head dropped slightly in embarrassment, but her arms still rested on his shoulders.

Rust sat there, quiet and thoughtful as she expressed her worries. When her head was against his, he looked into her eyes, but his eyes soon lowered to her lips. Soft, delicate, beautiful. He put a finger under her chin and lifted her face to meet his and whispered, "Then I'll carry you." He leaned in, closing his eyes, and pressed his lips gently into hers.
