Ugh..I had something like this happen to me, but not on the computer. I don't know how it happened, but one of my memory cards for my GCN got totally wiped out. All the data gone. :[ No way to get it back either. I freaked out about it at first, but you get used to it; it wasn't that big of a deal for me. But oye..all those bookmarks gone? That stinks. It's too bad there's no way to get them back. :/ It is a mystery as to what they did. Maybe you should ask them. o_o Call them up or somethin'.

Well this would have been a complete disaster if it physically happened. I'm playing Halo 3, final mission, last objective in the freaking game. Almost beat the thing on the hardest difficulty after slaving 2 hours over this one level. Then my little sister comes in...1 years old and a curious mind. She walks up to my 360, she raises her hand, and moves it towards the big big green on button. It almost went slow-mo. Her hand slowly going for it, and me diving from my seat to prevent her from touching it. Its like freakin bullet time mode. Luckily I saved her from touching it. Thank god...

Go to your C drive, and go to documents and settings. It might be under favorites in your user.
My dad did a disc clean-up that wiped off user accounts but saved all the info onto the C-drive.

hmm.. well when my home computer got a really bad virus all the bookmarks I had (which had to be around the same amount as what you had) were lost because I couldn't save them >.<
So.. even now I can't find half of them
