Welcome to the club of cosplay i cosplay kairi from kingdom hearts 2 ( aka-kh2) I actually had my grandmother make my cosplay outfit but i got some serious tips on making it because i was right next to her when she made it
(1) Go to the fabric store and look through the magazines they have under costumes or even dresses (depends on what ur character is) and look for something with atleast the basic dress or whatever but not detail 9 dont forget, bring a person who knows somethin about sewing)
(2) grab the kit and find what size u are and obviously choose the color of fabric and ask the lady for cutting it ( i think u already knew that ) also get the detail stuff
(3) Get someone u know who knows some about sewing and u work on it but have that person help out and if she/he has ideas u probably want them because they have experince

I looooove to cosplay! My best (and first) Was in first grade when I was Sailor Moon. My mom made the costume for me (With my help of course! 4laugh ) I looked just like a brunette sailor moon! It was AMAZING! Then a few years later I was Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo (minus the giant boobage of course xp ) But I had the hair spot on and I didn't even use a wig. I tried Belldandy another year and failed miserably, but made a beautiful outfit of the same character for my American Girl doll. biggrin I was Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura one year too. The best part was the skirt and my hair. I looked just like her! 4laugh This year my friend and I really want to do a vampire knight cosplay. We're both really excited, but haven't started yet. One of us (me) is going to do a boys uniform and the other (my friend) will do the girls one. I cannot wait to start it! blaugh If we can't get to a convention with them this year, we're gonna wear them at school. 3nodding

I've cosplayed numerous times...I think I've been to a con about 6 or 7 times. biggrin
Yeah. I've cosplayed Yuffie, And Hinata(shippudden) and others. This year Im going to be Linali from D-Gray man.
But some tips would be that...you should probably try to find a similar pattern for some things and be careful of how much material you buy. If you use one color and use another of course it'll be bad.
For many cosplayers it's good to stick with someone who looks like you...or you can pull off well.
So good luck. As long as you practice and maybe get help from others cosplaying will be fun and for the most part easy.

[ ] I really want to cosplay. I've seen people pull off characters well, and it's truly inspiring. I've been growing out my hair just in case I decide to cosplay Tifa. It's long enough for the Advent Children version now. [ ]

I just finished going to Megacon as L (I know, I know, too easy. I ended up ruining my costume so I had to go to my backup)
It was super fun and I was the best L out of the other 33 by general consensus.
Pretty good for my first con, first cosplay ever smile
