Jupiter is awesome...

Mars is powerful. I do love how he wrote to play ffff in mars. You dont see that very often. I thought we were going to peel the paint off the walls.

heart ... Autumn leaves fall and are swept out of sight ...

I love The Planets but chosing a favourite is always difficult as I keep changing my mind. At the moment I'm rather partial to Saturn.

Although on the whole I'll probably end up going back to Jupiter. XD

I found a $9 copy in Sanity a couple of years' ago; it includes Pluto ((they managed to blend it rather well)), as well as The Trumpeteer sung by Claire Rutter. That just spoiled the whole CD for me ((I don't like Rutter's voice)).

... So are the memories of love that we knew ... heart

it is very difficult to choose a favorite, i agree XD.

I must be either extremely inexperienced or just plain stupid for not knowing what this is. D:
But I will soon. I've downloaded all seven from iTunes, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
: O YES LSO rocks at playing The Planets! they are very clean and always stay in beat even super fast parts smile

I love the planets! Mars would have to be my favorite movement. I love when there is a really big brass section!

Uck, I swear I'm the only person in the world who despises The Planets Suite. Maybe it's because in England that horribly grandiose theme from "Jupiter" is used EVERYWHERE.

Hmph, well, I definitely can't think of myself as a Holst fan...

Dont think about jupiter. think of the rather unused ones like Venus and Saturn

I'm more of a fan of Uranus myself, if only because it's the most sarcastic one. But of Holst's output, The Planets is rather near the bottom of my list. Hammersmith knocks its socks off! Is that overused in GB, too, Le Aristocrat?

Just to note, I've heard the whole suite several times, and I still think it's overplayed and horrible.

No, Hammersmith is not overused. It's really just The Planets. Especially Jupiter. It's used almost as much as Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations.
