Oh, so your saying that it use to be extended to more than just
guild's use... I see....

Mass pm's to just guild members by the Captain/Vices would be best- using the home page to post announcements is useless if the members aren't coming to the guild. Think about it- we have 7000 members and only 20-30 are here regularly!

I would like the announcements to pop up like Gaia announcements, you know? Where it's like

"Hey I've got..."

1 Guild Announcement

That would be REALLY useful I think, everyone would see it then! And there's always the option to turn it on and off soooo everyone ish happy? D:

If they can be turned off, UNLIKE REGULAR GAIA ANNOUNCEMENTS, then they are pointless. People in many guilds that need to be reminded that they are neglecting a guild, will have theirs turned off, the people who joined a few guilds but has since forgotten what they are or how to use them will turn to announcements off, basically the intended audience will turn them off. If an off switch is necessary it needs to be specific to a guild. But like hell anything but an all-around switch will happen. >.>

I don't like the off-switch option... If they don't want to come to the guild when pm'ed, they can ignore the pm or quit the guild- how many of our 7200 members are still on gaia?

Some Gaia announcements can be turned off, such as the option to be notified of new private message or not. I just thought they might offer a feature to turn it off because, being human, people tend to abuse their power. I can the power being very handy but very abusable.

Hmmm....

I don't think that an off switch would be feusable even if you can select
which guild to not recieve 'broadcasts' from.

If a captain or vice captain would abuse the announcements for a guild
that I am in, then I would probably make a post about it, and if nothing
changes, then I would leave the guild...

By abusing the broadcasts, Im asuming that you mean like broadcasting
every single day about being active in that guild, or something even
just as useless to post.

I think, in a round-about way, 'broadcasts' (if it is sending announcements)
would be a good test for a captain's leadership skills... And by that I mean
their fear of loosing activity in the guild. If they are afraid, and their only
method of communication is through broadcasting everything, than
maybe its not quite the guild I would like to be assosiated with.

But I agree with Metalic Noodles when she sais that if it can be turned
off, than it would be useless.

Maybe they could make a one a week limit, that might be a good way to prevent abuse.

Yeah... That may work... Or at least a certain time limit that you
may have between sending brodcasts...

LoL, this is still asuming that brodcasts are announcements... sweatdrop

Wait, come to think of it.
In
this thread, on post 11, DARKNRGY sais that mass pm option is
in the making... I think thats what broadcasts are then since its the
only staff member letting loose of the plans.

Note: the thread is in the Captains Guild.

Rita: LOL That's what I've been saying (other threads, I'll see if I can find one) If asking the captain to not send them so carelessly doesn't work, then how would that member get along with the captain enough to enjoy the guild. confused

Churrlo-I think you are thinking of Gaia Alerts, which used to work, then broke and never send. Sure it will be abused, and they will be punished by members leaving for other guilds. 3nodding

Pheonix-Just a guess, but it that post dated 2007 or earlier?

Ah! Thread- http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=12380839&page=1
Mostly just a collection of thoughts by many captains. (cappy guild) For the most part, and the purpose of linking this to you, ignore the first post, maybe even the first page. Please don't post in that thread though, it is long dead.

As stated in that thread, my personal favorite is giving the guild account a use, 5g per member the GMPM (guild mass pm) is sent to.

That could become very costly though gonk Depending on the guild o.o;;

Idk I think they could just put a once a week limit or something... that would seriously prevent abuse and you could still get messages out to your members. Also Idk what Gaia Alerts are... the cell phones one? D:

I am thinking of like...

The problem with once a week is that if you make an error, you can't send an oops. That's why 2 per two weeks, or 4 per month were also suggested.

Alerts, cell phone or e-mail.

Are you thinking of a notification like that for every new main forum announcement posted in any guild you are in?
