I kind of wish they had done that. They could have used Mario, Luigi, Wario, DK, Toad and have unlockable characters, and just given them all different stats. DK couldn't jump high but could punch and throw really well, Toad would be the fastest, etc. That would have rocked.

Guys, there are unlockables and 'surprises' in game for collecting star coins. Perhaps, despite Nintendo saying there are no other playable characters, unlockable characters?

Doesn't change the fact that two of the default characters are toads.
