Either the gameplay, or the story. *sigh*

Why can very few companies get it right?

To be honest, I think most companies do a passable job on purpose. They know we'll buy the top titles because of name recognition even if it ends up being crap, so why bother putting in the effort to make a quality game.

Starting with FFX there came big changes and since then they keep trying very different battle systems. They screw with the games so much but it doesn't matter because FF is so popular and from my experience, the fans on gamefaqs will eat up anything Square throws at them.

Everything is collected by someone.
All companies have to do is find the right target audience.
(though sometimes I don't even think they do that right)
