Scars are definitely a plus too, but yes, I agree that the crippling should not be unattractive. XD
Oh, that does sound cool. Burn marks are win. S'why I love Avatar: The Last Airbender. You get three sexy scars on two of the characters throughout the series.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 11, 2010 10:01 pm

Ah yea, my friend was into avatar in part because of that. I don't like facial scars though, well I don't like facial burns. I've known people with facial burns and they are not at all sexy. Guys totally compare scars, but facial burns are not something anyone really tries to draw attention to. Un-animated they are awful and uncomfortable. But I can get into certain thin, distinguishing (usually the white marks) scars somewhere across the face. Although Harry's lightning bold is kinda lame. So yea I can get into certain scars but not burn marks.

You know, I was totally not into burns at first too, and I mean, don't get me wrong, they're still horrible in real life, and I have deep sympathy for anyone who does suffer a burn scar (my best friend as a kid got a really bad one, and it really changed a lot of her life), but just the angst that it does bring the character who has the facial burn... it's a constant, physical reminder that his own father burned and banished him from their nation, and he has to be reminded of it every time he sees or feels his own face. It's 'the mark of the banished prince,' and because it's so easily noticeable, a lot of people can recognize who he is immediately. Having such deep, painful connections to my favorite character like that, that was enough to make a burn scar sexy to me, more so than how it actually looks (though I have also grown fond of that).
Though I agree about Harry's lightning bolt. Lawl.

Yea, well, I'm slightly shallow. I mean sure the story is great, it doesn't change the fact that the burn itself still repulses me. In cartoons/anime it's not as repulsive as in real life, but it still is a huge turn off for me. And of course face burn is a better story, but I still would rather the burn be anywhere else.

will finish this later, so sick now.

I should just edit, but then I'd have to remember what I was saying last time. So no. And omg was SO unbelievably sick, haven't been that sick in a long time and it came out of nowhere. Spent almost 24 straight hours vomiting, couldn't sleep, was super dehydrated (seriously couldn't even keep water down). It was unbelievably miserable.

That aside...I can't really remember what else I was going to say, I am sure I was going to say more though. Let's see...yea I guess just in general, especially in fiction, I'm really attracted to beauty. Not just in that it is aesthetically pleasing, but in that it makes someone a target. Beauty usually ends up being an intriguing curse. Finally, I'm just a bigger fan of internal scars. A burn is right there, it can be seen by the world. They can know your tragedy before knowing you. Whereas characters without scars are walking around with these hidden burdens. Internal pain is usually my biggest turn on, and that's usually increased by the fact that nobody knows.

I do tend to really like bandages though, it's outwards brutality that will fade, and can in some sense be hidden.

Anyhow I'm sure this would have been a lot better days ago, ah well, stupid illness.

Oh, that sounds horrible. XP I hate getting flues that bad. Hope you're better now.
I think what attracts me most in fiction is drama queens, honestly. XD;; I like characters who express themselves and get upset easily, but who have a reason to feel that way at the same time. And I like characters who get depressed and angst, instead of keeping it hidden. And if a facial scar can add to that angst, then I'll appreciate it. <3
Bandages are most definitely sexy.

Yea I haven't gotten a flu since I was little, I'm not sure that's what it was but it was pretty bad, whatever it was. I'm doing much better now although my appetite is still rather absent. Surprise surprise right? xd

Ahh, see I'm the opposite. I like depression, but I love suffer in silence. So I like them to bury it down, and not necessarily pretend they are fine but try to keep hidden that something is clearly very wrong. I love internal suffering and solitude. It's why I ended up really loving Momiji in Fruba, not that I always love positive characters (I usually prefer them dark, just secretive), but he SO got shafted in that series. More than anyone else, all the way to the end. But he never brought it up. Kyou, Yuki all of them were oh so tragic - and they were, I get it. But Momiji I think suffered the most because he suffered alone, he didn't let others into his pain and sacrificed his own well being to keep others happy. I love that. Drama queens usually bug me, I don't usually like the center of attention characters who draw attention purposely to themselves, and I don't like my characters to easily show how upset they are. My dad has been telling me to suffer in silence since I was about six or seven, and likewise I tell my characters to do the same. stressed

Well yay bandages then, it's unanimous. Hahaha.

I've definitely had flues exactly like you described maybe like five or six times in my life, though it could also be food poisoning.
Hmm, guess now that I think it over, I really do like characters like you are describing. But I like drama queens too. I guess my favorite though would be kind of a combination of the two; characters who try to keep things hidden but do a completely terrible job of it because they're just not good at hiding their emotions, so they end up having people realize something's wrong and barging into their life, and they'll kick and scream the entire time about it, but really end up needing someone in the end. XD I guess Jounouchi would be the perfect example. Not so much someone who's constantly trying to make their problems the center of attention, but who often do end up in that situation anyway because they're not good at keeping things in. I'm definitely someone who's always kept problems more to myself as well; I don't know where I got it from, because my entire family definitely isn't that way. But I don't tell people problems very often, and I think I really respect and appreciate characters who are capable of letting things out.
Go bandages!

Basic Opinion-Like
Why you hold this Opinion-Well, to be honest, she's a likable girl; she stands up for what she believes in, looks out for her friends and doesn't take s**t from anyone, including Kaiba. (Now that takes guts, not even Shizuka was fully able to pull it off)

Although, to be honest, back about three years ago, I hated Téa with a passion...I found her to be annoying, whiny and too preppy for my taste at the time. not to mention the friendship speeches. Oh God, those speeches. gonk That is how you destroy a good character, right there.

The only real problem I have with Anzu is her indicision over Yami no Yuugi and Yuugi. Oh as LittleKuriboh puts it:

Little Kuriboh
Oh, I'm so in love with the Pharoah. No wait, I'm in love with Yugi. No, I love the Pharoah. Wait, now I love Yugi again

Ugh... .____.;;
Without that, she's be fighting with Kisara for my second place character spot....

Favourite Characters to pair with-Yami no Yuugi (Yeah, I know..XD;; ), Shizuka Kawai

Sorry for not being around much lately...exams...D;
PostPosted: Mon Jun 28, 2010 8:27 pm

Haha, true, I think a lot of characters try to stand up to Kaiba, but Anzu seems to do a bit of a better job than most of them. She at least often gets him to just quietly scowl rather than one-upping her with some mocking.
Anzu's indecision bothers me as well. I mean, I guess I can understand it to an extent, since it's obvious that she was first and is more so attracted to Yami no Yuugi, but in realizing/fearing that he won't be there much longer, she's probably starting to look to Yuugi as an alternative. Not necessarily the most noble thing to do, though I'm sure there have been many teen girls in similar situations. (minus, you know, the guy they like leaving because he was from the past and stuff)
And it's okay, exams are evil.

@Kits - Yea, I think me keeping things bottled up is why I empathize with characters who do the same, who are too afraid to let it out.

@Shizuka - Nothing wrong with pairing her with Yami no Yuugi, though I think I feel a lean towards Yuugi myself for her.

I still find her whinny, preppy and annoying so I'm still where you were 3 years ago. Ah well.

And oh those exams, I sadly envy those. Next year I can join in the complaining!

@Kits - Yea Anzu's decision does suck though. I mean that's one of the things I definitely don't hold against her.

@Kitsu-I don't feel that she's looking toward Yuugi just because Atemu is leaving...to be honest, i think some of it is hormon driven. You know, growing up with your best male friend since Elementary School, then puberty kicks in, and suddenly you have the hots for said best friend. Add to the mix he has a confident, egotistical (yes, I admitted it) alter ego, and then try to work out your feelings. I think the fact that early on in the anime/manga that she considered Atemu and Yuugi one in the same didn't help matters much either....

To be honest, I think the YuugixAnzuxAtemu triangle is a very sad thing for all three of them. I mean, think about it. Anzu and Atemu can never be together, because Atemu has to die/go to the afterlife, and she can never be with Yuugi while Atemu is around because of her strong attraction to him [Atemu]. no matter what, harts would get bronk...it actually makes me feel sorry for all 3 of them...T^T

@Jukoas-No, but considering the fact I was nagging about her indicision between both of them...saying that I support that pairing means I should be shot... xd
Incidentally, that was my first YGO het shipping..

@Shizuka - I've always liked that "growing up together" deal, although Yuugi is such a little kid, but yea, having the "boy next door" mixed in with the "confident alternate spirit" would be quite the rush. I can't fault her that. And I agree that it is very sad, I mean pretty much any situation where someone is in love with two different people is, but this just complicates it even further.

And hey I don't fault you that at all, I totally understand, so not shooting. Haha. MaixJou was probably my first het pair, probably because Mai is one of the only women in the series I can really stand and thus have any sort of interest in in relation to her romantic trysts.

@JK: Probably the opposite for me, since I tend to like character who can easily express traits that I have a difficult time showing. XD In turn, that often makes it where those traits end up becoming easier for me to show, because I get so attached to a character that I want to be like them. It kind of ends up helping me improve myself, liking characters that aren't similar to me.

@Shizuka: Hmm, yeah, I do feel that hormones play a role into Anzu's feelings, but ultimately I have a difficult time not seeing her initial attraction to Yami no Yuugi being the biggest factor in her feelings for Yuugi.
The relationship is very sad though. One of the reasons I don't care for those pairings too much, is it just is too difficult and tragic, and too hard to pick who I prefer Anzu with.

@JK: Mai/Jounouchi was my first YUU*GI*OU pairing all together. I used to quite love it, but the more of the series I watched, the more the two started seeming like brother and sister to me rather than a couple. Now it's difficult for me to feel anything more than mild attraction to the couple. I definitely prefer the two with other characters.

@Kits - Yea, I like characters that share my own awkward fears, paranoia, etc.

Yea, I kind of agree that it was Yami not Yuugi that got her drawn into this in the first place. Yami allowed her to see Yuugi and then it got complicated, but without him who knows if she ever would have had more than platonic feelings for her childhood bf. I probably prefer her with Yuugi though. Yami has way too much baggage, and while they respect each other I don't see him particularly loving her.

They never became brother/sister to me, and I still love the tiny implications from time to time. It's probably the only het pairing that I like as something beyond crack (like Rex and Mai tickles me ever since that one convo in the chat roleplay) or as just an acceptance without an intrigue in it.
