Chapter 19: Go Go Go Machina Crusader
Mission Start: Crusader Escort Service: The abused summoner
Lady Aya been treated badly by her main guardian who has been seen unfit you need to take her back to Djose so that she can get ones that are more fitting for her be forewarned The Goers aren’t going with the idea
Mission Requirements: Do not let anyone get fatally injured (No KOs)
Karl Elaina and Lady Aya headed out of Luca. Elaina made sure to have the forbidden scroll packed so that she could give it back to her mother. Karl made sure that he had plenty of supplies because he had a suspicion that this trip was going to be a rough one and boy was he correct because about an hour into the trip… He walked right into an ambush…
Karl was walking with the girls when Bickson and the other male goers came out from behind some ruins along the road.
“Are you trying to run out on your family Aya…” One of the Goer Abus said “Hey if this is about that whole thing with yesterday don’t worry it won’t happen again.”
Karl rolled his eyes “Sure it won’t…”
Abus looked “hey metal arm man you calling me a liar?”
Karl said “yeah… because I know that” He looked at Bickson “her brother still will make her summon for gil which last I heard is against the teachings”
Graav another of the goers said “and since when have you obeyed the teaching.”
Karl said “Ever since I came here. I’ve obeyed the teaching to the best of my abilities. I can’t help it that my arms and hands are machina.”
Bickson said “Sure you can’t… you just like using them…”
Karl said “maybe I do.”
Bickson said “So if we both break the rules why are you so against me using my own sister to help support ourselves.”
Elaina said “because you don’t treat her like a sister… that’s why. You don’t care about her at all”
“Did he ask you.” Raudy the goalie of the goers said
Karl said “no but that was my answer. You don’t care how you treat others just as long as it makes you more powerful and personally I don’t like that…”
Bickson scoffed “You don’t like that…” He laughed and did a mock cry “oh boo hoo hoo. Don’t make me cry that I’m hurting your feelings. I thought you crusaders were tough guys.”
Karl said “We know the difference between being tough guys and having strong hearts then being heartless jerks like you are Bickson.”
Bickson turned mad and glared at Karl “I’ll give you two seconds to take that back before my team pounds you.”
The other goers grunted and flexed their muscles.
Karl said “All I got to say is.” He activated his Tantos “Bring it punks!”

“Stay back” Elaina threatened her staff shimmering ready to blast them with a spell.
Bickson said “Go ahead and try to stop us Boys”
Elaina was quickly grabbed and held by Raudy her staff was taken disarming her
Aya said “Elaina…”
Bickson said “now Aya if you don’t want the same treatment you’re coming home with me. ”
“She isn’t going anywhere…” Karl calm voice said
Karl was back on his feet however something seemed off about him… His eyes were dull and emotionless.
Bickson scoffed “You just don’t know when to give up do you… boys teach this punk a lesson he won’t forgot…
Graav and Abus came at Karl

Karl looked at Raudy still in his Omega Form. He clicked his cannons to reload them
Raudy was wide eyed “uh heh heh…” He released Elaina from his grip “She’s released… I was just following orders”
Karl seemed to smirk slightly “Really…”
Raudy said “I swear…”
Elaina went over to Aya she whispered something and Aya nodded and both aimed their rods at Raudy
Raudy said “uh hey wait girls you don’t have to…”
“SLEEP!” The girls said in unison
Raudy was hit with a double dose of sleep magic and even with his protection was still affected by it causing him to collapse into a deep slumber.
Karl said “A fitting punishment…” he looked at the two his eyes bright with emotion again. “You two okay?”
Elaina nodded followed by Aya
Karl said “Good… let’s keep…”
His body shimmered as his form deactivated and he returned to normal
Karl grunted as he lost his power boost. He fell to his knees
Elaina said “Karl,”
Karl said “I can’t continue… dam…” he fell to the ground outcold
Elaina said “Karl!”

Chapter 22: Goers strike back.
A few days after the attack the three Goers finally came too when they did Zeke had some harsh questions for them. Masato relayed the information to me saying that Bickson at first tried to say that I started the attack but with Elaina Aya and strangely enough Raudy the goalie testimony quickly disproved it. Bickson finally caved in and said that indeed that he planned on capturing Aya and taking her away and was almost successful if it wasn’t for and I quote “That mechanical manic of a machina that Commander Zeke had on his troops.” Zeke told him in simple words that if he ever interfered with another crusader’s mission or hurt Elaina like his group did that death would be his only liberator when he got though with him. However even with this threat Bickson still had a bone to pick with me… and he would pick it about a week later.
Karl was walking in town minding his own business heading toward lunch when all of a sudden Karl saw the Goers doing a little promotion of their team with a crowd of fans. Karl rolled his eyes and continued walking when all of a sudden he heard Bickson say “and you know what gave me those injuries the same machina that the crusaders plan to use against Sin when he comes here. Are we going to stand for that? Are we going to allow the crusaders to do whatever they want?”
“No!” came the reply
This got Karl’s attention as such a thing was bordering another riot “hmm… I wonder.” He walked toward the group.
“And look there’s the machina now…” Bickson said “Hey machine man… isn’t it true that you plan to take on Sin single handedly. You all remember him he’s the guy with the mortars for hands well in truth he’s a machine throughout his body”
Karl was about to say something but someone said “Don’t you got anything better to do then trash talk the very same people that will risk their lives to save your hides when Sin shows up” Masato walked in “I mean sure we could just let Sin come to Luca and let him wipe it off the map taking all you punks with it but you know we won’t. We swore that we would defend Luca by signing onto this chapter and defend it we will. So what’s your problem man,”
Bickson said “my problem is that machina you call a friend. He nearly killed me Abus and Graav.”
Masato said “was that before or after you hurt Elaina and your sister Lady Aya which you have emotionally abused ever since she came to live with you 10 years ago.”
Bickson growled
Masato said “After right…”
Bickson said “yeah… that right... why you punks have to ruin everything all because of some stupid rule.”
Masato said “Hey if people wanted to donate gil to Lady Aya to support her that was fine. It was the way you treated her that was wrong.”
Bickson said “do you even know what I had to go though ever since she came into my life. I’ve had nothing but trouble thanks to her. She comes from Besaid all whiny that Sin killed our parents and that I’m the only thing she has left. People expected me to take care of her because she was a child and my sister. I wasn’t even an adult myself and only because I was good in Blitzball that I was able to support myself. I couldn’t support me and her on what I had”
“Bickson,” Soul voice spoke up as he and Alex entered “you could have asked for help.”
Bickson said “and became charity cases no thanks… so I sacrificed a few things to help her. I sold several rare things of mine that I bought so that I could move into a bigger place. I got her a bed, decent clothes, food… I took care of her and what thanks do I get nothing, nothing but a crying and whining little brat saying where’s mommy and daddy? It made me sick to hear her over and over… so I had to set her straight and turn her from a whining child to an adult like I was. Showing her that life isn’t paradise and that she has to work her share without whining or crying, but when I try to have her work her share with her new abilities I get the rulebook thrown at me.”
Soul said “do you even understand what you have done to her… She is so self-critical that she blames herself for everything that happens that she’s involved in even if it wasn’t her fault… She blamed herself for Karl collapsing after the fight because he got injured defending her. She blamed herself for the fight that Chappu started. She even blamed herself for having the backbone to become a summoner because she wanted to give people hope.”
Bickson said “like I said a whining child. She still hasn’t grown up.”
Masato said “and you have? You’re acting like a kid yourself being nothing but a jerk who plays Blitzball. You don’t even care when you hurt others.”
Bickson said “and is there a problem with that…”
“yeah” Karl replied “when a machina shows more regret then a human does… that means there a problem.”
Bickson said “with what the machina.”
Karl said “with the human… because you know humans are not machina because they have ability to understand emotion based data. Somewhere in that thick skull of your has the data to make you understand what exactly you have done to Lady Aya... maybe it’s time I showed you the pain you put her through…” He gained a grin “and I think this new process I’ve learned of transmitting data will help”
Bickson stepped back slightly “Don’t you dare come near me you freak…”
Karl advanced toward Bickson “it’s time to teach you a few things Bickson…”
Bickson said “Stop him…”
The other male Goers came at Karl
Alex Soul and Masato came at the Goers and blocked them…
Masato said “KC when we get these punks down go for Bickson.”
Karl said “Roger…”
Masato said “pick and choose Alex”
Alex said “I’ll take Abus”
Masato said “Soul?”
Soul said “I’ve got Raudy…”
Masato said “then Gravv is mine”

Alex quickly used an Al-bhed potion on Abus to cure the poison and silence but left the guy sleeping.

Karl said “Alex Masato Soul I don’t need any interference hold that crowd back.”
“Roger” Alex Masato and Soul replied
Karl advanced toward Bickson
Bickson said “get away you…” He was suddenly grabbed roughly.
Commander Zeke was behind him.
Bickson said “what the hell are you doing aren’t you going to stop him”
Zeke said “no… I think Karl has a good idea to make you learn on how your actions of treating others poorly makes them truly feel.” He glanced at Karl “whatever you have planning Karl do it now before I change my mind…”
Karl smirked “Yes sir…” He came up to Bickson “System Connection Bickson!” He placed his hands on Bickson Chest and forced a connection…
“get out of my head” Bickson’s mind shouted
“no…” Karl’s mind replied “it’s time to make you feel it… data download begin…”
Karl sent the data he had gathered from interacting with Aya and the pain that she’s been though.
Outside Bickson struggled greatly in pain feeling all the emotions that Karl was pumping into him though the connection.
“You’re destroying me…” Bickson screamed in his head as images flashed though his mind of Aya losing her parents to Sin and him emotionally abusing Aya making him feel the pain she went though.
“Do you not see Bickson.” Karl said “do you not understand what your own sister felt when she was in pain due to her emotions.”
Bickson said “damn you machina I do feel the pain and understand it. It’s hurt badly.”
Karl said “then understand, you caused part of it by emotionally abusing her. You hurt your own sister. I may not know what it means to have family but I know that hurting someone this close to you on purpose is not a good thing.”
Bickson said “I was only trying to make her grow up… I had enough of her tireless whining”
Karl said “so you wanted her to shut up and not express emotion is that how you saw it… turn her emotionless so that she stops crying. Well what about the times she was happy and grateful for you caring for her…”
Images and the emotions connected to those images flowed into Bickson mind about when Aya was happy.
Bickson stopped struggling outside not being in pain anymore.
Karl said “well Bickson… do you not get she was grateful… sure she was sad about her mother and father being killed and never coming back but she was happy she still had you… even when you abused her. She still loved you… you should consider yourself very lucky… you still have a sister when a lot of others lose everything”
Bickson was silent
Karl said “I’ll disconnect now and let you have your own thoughts.”
Karl disconnected from Bickson.
Zeke released Bickson who was stunned.
Karl said “data transfer complete” He turned to walk away
Bickson recovered “uh…”
Zeke released him “do you understand Bickson what Karl was trying to teach you.”
Bickson said “yeah I get it…” He looked at Karl “Hey mech man…”
Masato said “he has a name it’s Karl use it.”
Bickson said “Karl…”
Karl said “Bickson…”
Bickson said “do you think it too late to correct my mistakes.”
Karl said “Your sister is still alive for the time being. I’m not sure when that time will run out however.”
Bickson said “do you think she’ll forgive me…”
Karl said “I don’t have enough information to answer that question. It all depends on if you are truly seeking forgiveness and if she is willing to forgive. The odds are in your favor however, I do sense that you are remorseful for your actions against her.”
Bickson said “right…”
Karl said “take some time to think it over but don’t take too long after all the clock is ticking”
Bickson said “right thanks.”
Karl smiled slightly “Don’t mention it…” He walked away

Chapter 23: Sinful Luca
With that bone picked the Goers never bothered the Crusaders again... however Zeke had to dish out some minor punishment for Alex Soul and Masato as their actions were against the code by helping me attack Bickson even if it was for his own good. They were assigned clean up duty for the next 60 days in the stadium something that cadets usually did but they took the punishment without complaints and I made it a mission to come and help out even though I wasn’t a crusader and thankfully we were there working when it happened
Soul grunted and dumped a bunch of trash into a bin outside the stadium “That should be the last of it…”
Alex said “Yeah… now I just need to put it though my incinerator.” He threw an active bomb fragment into the bin and slammed the lid shut.
An explosion made the bin bounce once and smoke whatever was in there was now ash…
Alex said “another day of trash duty done.”
Masato said “So how many more days we got to do this…”
Karl said “let’s see… it’s been four weeks since that day so… 32 days.
Masato said “great… Hey Alex I hope you got more bomb fragments.”
Alex said “I’ve got a steady supply…” He nudged Karl “Ain’t that right KC.”
Karl said “Hey got to do something with my free time and speaking of which, I got something from Rin for you I picked it up today.
Alex said “oh yeah?”
Karl pulled out a large cloth like envelope. He had been doing minor errands for Rin by delivering packages to the town
Alex took it and opened it inside where Large Yellow Feathers about 16 of them. “Alright Chocobo Feathers sweet!”
Karl said “Feathers from Chocobos? What do those do…”
Alex said “Check it out.” He pulled out one and held out one which shimmered then vanished. He then took off running faster than an average human around the docks
Soul said “Chocobo Feathers when used cast Haste on one person.”
Karl said “Sweet… if I didn’t know the white magic I love to use those”
Alex came around then stopped. “oh man that felt good.” He said fastly.
Masato said “Well come on guys let’s go…”
Everyone started walking when all of a sudden Karl stopped. He felt a pulse like effect surged throughout his body.
Alex said “Hey KC you okay man…”
Karl shook his head slightly “I don’t know…” He looked around then toward the sea a giant wave about ten minutes away was heading toward the stadium. “uh oh…”
Alex said “What’s wrong…”
Karl said “Hey what did you guys say was seen just before Sin appeared… I know you told me once but I forgot”
“A tidal wave.” Soul said “coming from the sea”
Karl pointed “would that qualify.”
Everyone looked and their jaws dropped slightly
Alex said “uh guys… I don’t think I want to be here…”
Soul nodded “send the signal… then run for it Sin using the water against us. It’s a tidal attack”
Karl said “on it.” He transformed his hand into a Mortar and ran toward the nearby dock and shot a blast of red flares into the air followed by several blue flares signaling water attack.
In the fields the flares were seen by Commander Zeke He hummed slightly “RED ALERT.” He shouted “ALL CRUSADERS EVACUATE THE CITY LET MOVE, MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!”
The Crusaders took up their positions most directing the Civilians toward the Highroad. When a Tidal attack was launched they were to instantly retreat toward the fields.
Back with the group they were directing everyone toward the city. They would only needed a minute themselves to run out of there.
“How Far away is it Karl.”
Karl scanned and said “2 Kilometers and closing its heading right for the stadium and town”
Masato said “Too bad we don’t have enough fire power to cancel the wave out…”
Karl said “Not fire power thunder power… Alex give me some electro marbles.” He opened his weapon chambers and unloaded them
Alex loaded 4 electro marbles into each.
Karl said “Now get out of here.”
Soul said “What about you.”
Karl used Haste on himself “I’ll be fine don’t worry about me… now go and don’t send anyone after me”
Masato said “Got you man.”
They took off
Karl head to the top of the stadium and aimed his mortars just in front of the wave “Wild Mortar Thundergun Blast” He shouted
Two powerful spheres of electricity shot toward the wave and hit it directly instantly vaporizing the wave which was just a veil of water surrounding a giant whale like creature. This was Sin.
KC said “so this is Sin…” He clicked to reload his cannons with basic grenades “Guess I’ll stand my ground here.”
“Wait KC Sin’s way too powerful for you to handle alone. Get out of here I’ll hold him off.”
KC blinked and said “How Creator”
“I happen to know a few people up here willing to buy you some time. Alright people let’s do this. Light of the Worlds Shine down Holy Barrage!”
Several Beams of light rained down on Sin.
Sin roared as he took some damage.
Karl took off running
Alex Soul and Masato ran into the field
Commander Zeke said “Report!”
Alex said “Sir Civilians near the stadium were evacuated. All personal near there accounted for
Commander Zeke said “Good that should be everyone. We made a house by house search everyone his out that we know about. No one was foolish enough to stay”
Elaina said “But where’s Karl? He’s not here.”
Soul said “we know…” he glanced toward the stadium “He’s the only one left... however he said don’t send anyone after him…”
Elaina said “No…”
All of a sudden the beams of light were shooting down near the stadium
Alex said “What’s that.”
Elaina said “That’s looks like Holy but Karl doesn’t know that…”
Masato said “Then who’s casting it?”
“That would be my creator”
Karl ran in
Zeke said “Report!”
Karl said “Sin is being delayed for now… My creator summoned up some help to hold him back while we make sure everything is set.”
Zeke said “Your Creator?”
Karl nodded “He’s a spirit and he seems to have linked himself to some powerful friends up there.”
Zeke said “I see… well glad he’s on our side…”
Karl said “He’s wanted Sin destroyed since its first rebirth just under a thousand years ago. However we can’t fully destroy it now. The time is not right…”
Zeke said “We aren’t aiming to destroy it just repel it.”
Karl said “I can do that Sir… I know exactly what to do.”
Zeke said “What…”
Karl said “Go Omega on him…”
Zeke said “Omega?”
Karl nodded “It’s the overdrive of my Omega Base Form one of my final moves. All I need is you guys.”
Alex said “What can we do Karl…”
Karl said “Your faith in me that I can do whatever I need to do to protect those I care about. The power of the light element charged though friendship is the strongest light that you can possibly imagine. The stronger the bond between the user and his friends the stronger the power is…”
Elaina said “How do you know about this power…”
Karl smirked slightly “I used it to save you twice.”
Elaina gasped and remembered when Karl unlocked his shield move then his Omega Form both times they were saving her.
Karl nodded “That’s right Elaina all my abilities and powers are meant to protect and save those I care about… not to destroy.”
Elaina nodded “I think I understand but how could a machina understand that type of power.”
Karl said “because I’m not just a Machina…”
Elaina said “You’re the machina man…”
Karl said “Now here’s how the plan going to work… I need everyone to focus their overdrives then when you feel ready to burst focus that power toward me by using the move known as Entrust everyone knows it”
Soul said “How can we focus our overdrives without something to fight. Mostly everyone is either Warrior, Slayer or Victor.”
Karl said “I don’t know.”
A sudden pulse like shift occurred throughout the air.
“What the?” Alex said as he looked around then looked toward the town “uh Guys look…”
The town was now crawling with various low level fiends from the highroads and Djose.
Masato said “Where did all those fiends come from they weren’t there a second ago…”
Karl looked up “Creator was that you…” He thought
“Love to take credit but no…” His creator replied in his mind… “heh… looks like someone else is playing a card…”
“huh?” Karl replied
“uh nothing…” His creator replied
Zeke said “Well Soul you wanted something to fight… looks like we got our something to fight… you boys ready to do this.”
“YES SIR!” came the unison shout
Zeke said “Alright setup assault teams of 3 or 4 people and get down there remember they may be only fiends but don’t let your guard down remember Sin is near the stadium any attack from him could kill you. We’ll send up an alert flare when Sin is approaching on that retreat at all costs. ”
“Sir!”
“Move out!”

“Alex Masato let’s go.” Soul called
“Right behind ya Soul” Alex replied
“Yeah…” Masato chimed in
All three of them took off
All the other troops grouped off and headed down into the city
Only the Medics, Commander Zeke, Karl and Elaina were remaining
Zeke looked at them “Well you two what your move…”
Karl said “I go wherever Elaina goes Sir… that’s my job remember… I protect the medic while she heals”
Zeke nodded “Indeed…”
Elaina said “Something doesn’t seem right though…”
Karl said “What’s up?”
Elaina said “Fiends suddenly appearing in the city when they are needed to charge overdrives, Sin being held off by your creator and his friends from up there, I’m thinking there something seriously wrong that this convenience is going to cost a lot of lives. The teaching say that the less you work for something the more likely there is a retribution later on.”
“Any thoughts creator” Karl thought “that does sound a little off to me…”
“If I see anything I’ll let you know…” His creator replied in Karl mind “others may doubt me but I swear I wouldn’t do anything against you or your friends KC but I do advise caution on the fiends. I think they were put there on purpose...”
“Yeah?” Karl thought. “What should I do?”
His creator sighed “Go down there… I got the feeling that you’re the one they are waiting for…”
“Who creator…”
His creator said “The higher ups the ones I pissed off sending you though the time stream into the future.”
“What do you mean…”
“There a higher force at work here KC one designed to keep things in order and let’s just say that you’re a wild card that they don’t like… They fear you’re going to ruin everything”
“Ruin everything?”
“It appears Sin is but a mere puppet to them…” His creator explained “they control where it goes and what it does in a sense. The general future has been predetermined for the most part with a little room for error due to various actions and my actions did not go over so well… so they want to eliminate or weaken the wild card I had setup which is you. They tried to do you in when you were weakened by your lack of memory. Remember a few months ago when that Mech suddenly appeared on the highroad…”
“Yeah” Karl thought “I remember was that their doing as well?”
“uh huh…” His creator answered “but your programmed instincts to protect your client kicked in and saved both of you… It was me who reminded you about that series of mech and how to take care of them in a sense helping you win that hand”
“You make it sound it’s all a game to you now…” Karl thought
“That’s exactly what it is KC… and right now it’s your move… I advised you on what to do but you can control what you want to do… your fate is in your hands do as you will”
“Karl…” Elaina said
Karl looked at her “huh…”
Elaina said “You looked like you were spacing out there everything alright…”
Karl said “just thinking… I think your assumption is right that this is too convenient. Commander, call back the troops now… it’s a trap for me.”
Zeke said “What…”
Karl said “Everything starting to make sense now… someone is controlling this whole situation. The fiends are a lure for me to walk right into a trap… A trap in an attempt to destroy me…”
Zeke said “how so…”
Karl said “If troops get injured during this attack on the frontlines I’m to go with Elaina to help them out… and when I do… that’s when the trap will spring shut and if the trap is successful I could be destroyed.”
Elaina said “My Yevon… who would be willing to go that far to do that Karl…”
Karl said “someone who hates wildcards.” His hands transformed into Tantos “and I just happen to be the wildest.”
Zeke nodded slightly “I understand Karl…” He pointed his sword and shot up a red flare
The troops started running back in groups. Most reported that they had taken enough fiends out to get focused. Everyone seemed to be alright but then Soul and Masato came back without Alex.
Elaina approached them “Soul Masato where’s Alex.”
Masato said “ain’t he right behind us?”
Soul looked and said “No… he isn’t”
Masato said “What… I swear he was right behind us a few minutes ago…”
Soul said “Something must have happened to him… come on we got go back for him…”
“NO.” Karl said sharply “I’ll get him…”
Masato said “You don’t know where we went Karl…”
“I’ll find him…”
“no” Elaina said as she clutched Karl arm. “We’ll find him KC…”
Karl said “Elaina… this is a trap I know it is. I don’t want you in danger.”
Soul and Masato looked at each other. “A trap?” They said in unison.
Zeke said “I’ll explain in a bit, boys”
Elaina said “if I’m not in danger then how will you be able to fight your way out of a trap without purpose… all your power comes from those in danger that you care about… and Alex could need medical help”
Karl looked at Zeke “Commander, talk some sense into her…”
Zeke chuckled “I’m afraid she’s about as stubborn as her mother in some cases Karl. Both her father and I had some tough times convincing her mother to get to safety during some dangerous missions.”
“like mother like daughter” The creator muttered in Karl mind. “No wonder I never really wanted anything to do with females of course the girls I always dealt with were real snobs and brats.”
Karl sighed “alright Elaina let’s go… but don’t say I didn’t warn you…”
Elaina nodded
A crusader ran in “Sir roll calls have been done there a handful still unaccounted for.”
Zeke said “how many?”
“Rough guess 10 sir…”
Zeke nodded “Karl while you’re out there try to find our Missing in Action
Karl nodded “Roger”
Mission Start: Sinful Luca
Alex is missing in action and a few others are as well… you better find them quickly and uh be careful.
Find and restore 10 crusaders
Elaina and Karl headed into the town.
Karl said “how are we going to find them without wasting too much time.”
“Follow the flares KC” His creator said “it will lead you to everyone”
A red flare shot into the air it was to the left of them.
Elaina said “Emergency Flares?”
Karl nodded “That will work come on… one of them will be Alex.”
They ran and saw two crusaders fighting against a pair of Garm protecting a fallen crusader.
Karl said “Here we go!”

“I’m… Right… Here…” came a strained voice
Alex was slowly crawling toward Karl and Elaina in extreme pain. His left foot trailing behind him
Elaina said “Alex!” She ran to him. “What happened”
Alex said “would you believe I tripped while running and landed wrong… I heard something in my foot snap and now I can’t get up and it hurts badly to even move it. I thought I could crawl my way back but…” He grunted in pain
Elaina said “Stay still. I’ll get you patched up then Karl can carry you.”
Alex said “thanks.”
Elaina started healing Alex
Karl looked around the streets were clear for the most part.
“Creator you sure this is a trap…” Karl thought…
There was no response
“Creator?” Karl thought
A static sound followed by laughter was heard
Elaina and Alex looked up “Karl did you find something funny.” Alex said “because if you did man I’d love a good laugh right now.”
Karl shook his head “that wasn’t me…” He looked around then noticed something and got a confused look “uh guys…” He said “am I seeing what I think I’m seeing…”

Chapter 24: A sending or a receiving?
The damage to Luca was minimal for a Sin attack. Most of the damage was to the stadium as a lot of it was underwater and got flooded as Sin got in close range. The boats that were docked were damaged but could be repaired and there were several marks on various buildings in the city where fiends had crashed into or damaged with moving around but for the most part everything seemed to be in one piece… however… it wasn’t the same with the moral of the crusaders… several had received critical injuries from the fiends attack and would be down for several days if not weeks and there was one fatality everyone heard that Karl had engaged some sort of machina like fiend to protect a medic and a injured crusader The fiend killed him using a cheap death spell at the end of a battle when it had lost and that the machina they saw was only a shell that remained to carry out a final mission. Karl had died a hero however without a body a sending could not be truly performed but Commander Zeke made arrangements for a meeting at sunset of the day after.
A mound was made at the edge of the highroad just off the main path; you could see the entire city by standing near it looking over a ledge. The chapter and nearly all of town people had gathered. Aya was also there for some reason.
Zeke looked at everyone standing there “These past couple of months I met someone that defies understanding… A being that we could care less that it had machina properties because to us it was human… His name was Karl Christopher, The Machina Man. Body of a Machine, Soul of a human, Abilities and weapons unusual and unique to him while familiar to us at the same time. He flew above our town and engaged Sin luring him away because he knew that with his power he could repel Sin to save us all. A machine usually designed for destruction in turn repelling Sin the immortal bringer of death and saving us all now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think this machina man deserves to be treated with the same respect as any other crusader or summoner who lays down their life toward the cause of defeating Sin once and for all… so even without his body to send, I want Lady Aya and Elaina to lead us in a prayer of sending, so Lady Aya, Elaina, if you would.
Elaina nodded and approached the mound “Karl… when that mech attacked us on the highroad I was afraid, afraid of losing someone that I had worked so hard to restore. I had restored your life and in payment you saved mine… I’ll never forget that or anything else you did for me… This will be a great loss to all who knew who you are but I hope that with this… you will rest in peace.
Elaina and Aya both started singing the Hymn of the Fayth.

The crusader stood at attention saluting several of the younger ones and some of the older ones like Alex had slight tears coming out of their eyes out of sadness but they stood tall
At the second chorus others joined in on the song…
At the end of the song both girls bowed toward the mound
“Goodbye KC” Elaina said calmly
All of a sudden another hymn of the fayth started playing this was the Sending Version of the Hymn
Alex said “huh…”
A powerful shift occurred in the air...
Masato said “What was that…”
Soul said “I know that sensation it occurred when the fiends appeared in Luca…”
Alex looked up at the sky “and that was caused by someone up there causing something to happen that isn’t normal…”
A glowing orb appeared and floated down to everyone.
The orb surged with a burst of light and Karl appeared in a Knocked out state on the ground just in front of the mound and the orb vanished
Most just stared in amazement
Soul said “unbelievable… it’s him… he’s…”
Elaina knelt to Karl and said “KC… KC can you hear me…”
Karl groaned… He opened his eyes, blinked them once to focus then grinned slightly “yeah I hear you… Hello Elaina”
Elaina broke down into tears and said “KC!” She hugged him tight
Soul said “he’s alive…”
Alex said “Well Masato you said he made an awesome exit. I say he makes an even better entrance…”
Masato smirked “That he does…”
“all is as it was… ” came a deep voice over the music “the game may continue…”
The song faded out
Everything and everyone was silent shocked at this sudden seemingly miracle.
Karl broke the silence by sighing loudly “Hey Elaina…” He said “you think I can get up now? I uh… have to be debriefed…” He pointed his thumb at Zeke
Elaina blinked as she realized her emotions got the best of her for a moment… “oh sure sorry.” She got up and off of him blushing slightly in embarrassment.
Karl got up and made sure everything about him was stable then he looked at Commander Zeke and started to walk toward him “Commander?” He said when he made it within the proper distance of the commander
Zeke looked him in silence then said “Status Report… Karl Christopher”
Karl looked at him then looked around at everyone who was staring at him in silent amazement and responded “all that were missing in action I assume accounted for Sir no fatalities…”
Zeke nodded “that is now correct Karl… there was one assumed fatality but… it appears we were mistaken”
Karl nodded “That is correct sir… and I hope you don’t blame me for my lateness but heh I was held up I couldn’t come straight back from where I went.”
Zeke said “I see”
Karl said “anyway,” He saluted “My mission is complete sir…”
Zeke nodded then saluted “Excellent… well done Crusader… your previous rank has been restored to you. I hope we won’t have any further incidents that requires me to remove that rank again
Karl nodded “There won’t be Sir…”
Zeke then smirked “good to have you back KC”
Karl said “good to be back Sir…”
Everyone let up a cheer as Soul and Masato and several of the other crusaders crowded around Karl and traded hand slaps and arm taps.
Karl took these smiling but he signaled for people to move aside and slowly made his way back to Elaina…
Elaina smiled tears flowing out of her eyes in pure happiness.
Karl walked over to her and embraced her.
Elaina returned the hug.
The mound started glowing as Karl’s Creator appeared in a spirit form in between the mound and the ledge overlooking the city
Everyone looked and some were surprised to see a look a like of Karl.
Karl was about to say something but Karl’s Creator quickly pointed a finger at him and Karl became silenced and nothing spoken came out of his mouth
Karl realized what happened and glared at his creator with a sour look
Karl creator chuckled “silence is worth gil KC…” He then turned toward the city “but light is worth everything people live for…” He moved his arms in a strange circular pattern like he was casting a spell then shot his arms forward sending out a sphere of light which flew with incredible speed down toward the city. As the light traveled through the city and split into smaller and smaller spheres squares of light surged though the ground and walls zigzagging back and forth with speed spreading like a shockwave throughout the city and if anything was broken or in need of repairs it was fixed that instant the wave touched it. The Town Square statue which was a giant crystal in the shape of a sword was also touched by this light and shone with the setting sun. The stadium which had taken some heavy damage due to Sin was repaired and the water was removed like it was never there. People who doing repairs watched in amazement as the light repaired the damage done. Soon several lights shot out of the city and the stadium and flew upward.
Karl’s Creator circled his hands again and the light gathered and flew back to him… He looked back at the crusaders and looked at Alex who still had his foot wrapped up because of Theta snapping his foot. He flicked his index finger at Alex and one of the small spheres of light shot toward his broken foot and zipped around it extremely fast doing the same shockwave as it had the town
Alex looked in amazement as his foot was healed completely. He moved it with amazement.
The light zipped around to those that were injured and healed them as quickly at it has healed the town.
Karl creator smirked “Now… all is as it was…”
Commander Zeke approached him “who are you…”
Karl creator smirked “My name is not important but my message is… Crusaders and Residents of Luca what you have witnessed with this miracle restoration never happened but do remember this. The power of those who believe in themselves and in their friends will overcome all who stand in their way even Sin because true friendship is the strongest light you’ll ever see. Now I bid you farewell” He bowed the Yevon prayer “and may your victories continue to shine bright” He vanished into bits of light then all of a sudden a powerful burst of light flooded the area.
Everyone including Karl was affected and his silence status was cured. The light soon faded out and everything was back to normal and in some cases better then normal
Commander Zeke shook his head then looked around “What just happened.”
Karl said “I don’t know Sir…” He looked toward Luca “but I don’t know if it’s the sun or something but doesn’t Luca look a little brighter now?”
Alex and several others came to the edge to look at the town
Alex said “Yeah… it does… it’s like Sin never came here...”
Soul said “but we know Sin came here… we saw it… the Crusaders rescued the residents of Luca from Sin by helping them escape to the highroad
Masato said “and it was all thanks to KC… because without him we wouldn’t have been able to escape in time or do anything to repel Sin…”
Karl said “I share the credit with the rest of you… because of your faith in me I was able to repel Sin… your light gave me the power and I hope that we can continue doing that because I wish to continue doing what you all do by defending those who need defending because that’s what I want my story to be about.”
Masato said “Well KC… stick around machina man… because as a crusader that’s what you’ll do… ain’t that right everyone.
Everyone cheered
Karl smiled “Don’t worry I plan on it”

Final Chapter: The night that revealed the truth
After the meeting a celebration was called for. The success of the crusaders, the power of faith, and everything else that people had to be thankful for was going to be celebrated. Word was quickly spread to other towns though word of mouth For several days people celebrated. Alisha came to Luca to see Elaina and to hear what had happened and was amazed by the story but was glad that it was partly thanks to her daughter that Sin was repelled and told both her and Commander Zeke that Elaina’s father would be overflowing with happiness that they were able to repel Sin.
The sun had set over Luca and the highroads on the third day of celebrations and everyone was celebrating in the city however Elaina was not among these celebrations as such celebrations went against her rules as a training nun she avoided most of them only attending a few with her close friends. She was at the mound where Karl had returned to. The mound had an etching that the crusaders wrote all remembering a special saying that they had once heard but forgot who told them
The power of those who believe in themselves and in their friends will overcome all who stand in their way even Sin… Because true friendship is the strongest light of all
Crusaders - The Luca Chapter
Elaina brushed her hand over the etchings and sighed in happiness.
Karl came up the stairs carrying a pair of drinks, one for him and one for Elaina. “Getting away from the party huh Elaina”
Elaina smiled slightly and withdrew her hand from the mound “Oh you know me KC. Sometimes I like it quiet.”
Karl nodded “I know…” He held out a drink “a quiet celebration with friends is good sometimes. And I think we need one together without the others”
Elaina was about to say she shouldn’t drink forbidden drinks but then Karl said “don’t worry it’s just fruit juice nothing else…”
Elaina smiled and took the drink “Thank you…”
They stood at the mound slowly sipping on their drinks in silence.
Elaina said “You know KC… I don’t know if you heard me when I started the prayer but…”
Karl nodded “I heard you… and I heard the prayer you all gave me… I should thank you for such a nice sending…”
Elaina nodded “It was Commander Zeke’s idea but you know I don’t know if it was a sending or a receiving really…” She looked at Karl “after all we didn’t have a body or a soul to send but instead you came back just after it.”
Karl said “that was all timing actually… the prayer showed the higher ups just how much you all cared about me… and they decided that I should return when my death wasn’t meant to be.”
Elaina said “You sure your death wasn’t meant to be…”
Karl nodded “the death spell that Theta used on me was activated by an item known as a rulebreaker… it a type of item that well… it’s not supposed to be used in a game like this…”
Elaina said “A game?”
Karl nodded “everything that’s happened in the past, and everything that will happen in the future is all part of a game. To those up there we are nothing but the players of a giant game… this game is a collection of stories played out throughout time however the main story slash game will not begin until later…”
Elaina said “how much later…”
Karl said “If I had to guess… within two years that’s when I start a mission to help the main hero of that game complete his story…”
Elaina said “and what about your story? Will it be a part of his story?”
Karl said “in a way however I don’t know what’s to happen between now and then…” He turned slightly depressed “but I have received a major hint”
Elaina said “what was that hint…”
Karl said “that because of what I am… everyone will hate me by the time I start the mission”
Elaina gasped slightly “Karl you know I’ll never”
Karl said “I know Elaina… and I’m sure that Alex, Soul, Masato, Commander Zeke and a few others won’t... they know who I am… and that will prevent you all from hating what I am.”
Elaina said “but why would everyone hate you… what you did for Luca and the crusaders.” She looked at the city that was bright and alive with various parties, “They won’t ever forget, you know?
Karl nodded “I know and that’s why I got the feeling this will be the last thing that the crusaders will celebrate everything going to change.”
Elaina said “how KC?”
Karl looked at her “If I knew that Elaina; I would know something I shouldn’t know, and that is as bad as a rulebreaker. In my past I remember a saying my creator used to say about time and life. You hang on the edge of tomorrow based on the works of yesterday. You must live and learn from everything you do otherwise you may never find your way.”
“you may never find your way…” Elaina repeated then blinked as a thought came to her head “KC do you think the way everything is going now will we ever find our way and find a way to prevent Sin from ever coming back or will it just keep coming back.”
Karl looked at her and shook his head “I don’t know Elaina. I just don’t know.”
Elaina sighed then said “KC can I ask you a favor?”
Karl said “what Elaina?”
Elaina said “Whatever happens don’t leave me like you did last time.”
Karl said “where I turned into a total machine heartless and cold.”
Elaina nodded
Karl sighed “I’ll try not to Elaina.” He looked down “I’m sorry I did that.” He looked at her “I only did it to protect you because I knew you would have stayed if I was still human. He looked toward the town “and I needed to get you out of my range.”
Elaina sat her finished drink on the mound, hugged Karl and held him close. “Thank you.”
Karl held her “Don’t mention it.”
“and I think I’ve seen enough…” Soul’s stated breaking the personal scene
Elaina and Karl gasped as Alex Soul Masato along with a few of the others of Commander Zeke’s personal group were standing there watching them. They had snuck up while Karl and Elaina were talking
Alex said “they’re busy we’ll come back later.”
Elaina blushed
Karl sighed “what do you guys want?”
Masato approached him and said “well KC a lot want some sort of idea on how you do things. Clearly you try to play by the rules given to you but you seem to have a set of rules of your own… and people want to know just what those rules are… what makes you different”
Elaina smiled slightly “KC… you can tell them what you told me… how you live and learn”
Karl said “hmm… live and learn”
Alex said “live and learn… is that all it is”
Soul said “Live and Learn… but what does that mean”
Karl smirked slightly “it means… you learn from the past but you live in the present hanging on the edge going toward the future. What you did in the past will affect the future but don’t let it hold you back learn from it and continue on.
