Stubborn people have done this with starter Pokemon.

Shiny has no stat value, I don't see the issue. It's cool to have a shiny poke'mon and all. But all it does is boost self-feelings-of-awesomeness. That's about all.

Yea... I bred like 600 Durants on White for a shiny, I still don't have one.
Getting a shiny sounds cool at first but as you try it just dosn't seem worth it anymore.

most people have found that pokemon that are shiny have a higher IV base than most others, some capping out at 32 on 2 stats. i AM a pokenerd, that wants to fight, and then send out metagross.
