@JK: Haha, nah, no one cares about commercial things ruining a neighborhood here. Only time I've ever heard a complaint like that was when they were going to develop a patch of land right in the middle of other houses (so like it's own subdivision surrounded by others) into an apartment complex. People complained then, so they turned them into houses instead, and that's where I live now. =D

And there's um, no natural elements here to live near, except the desert, and no one wants that. Only the rich people in the mountains, and honestly most of us wouldn't want to live there, even for the nice houses, because you get scorpions and stuff. And you really think California traffic is that bad? o.o I've been to CA and I've been to NY, and NY was like death on the road. CA seemed just slightly worse than AZ, but it might've just been the areas I've been too weren't the biggest areas. And Arizona's pretty bad with the need to drive everywhere as well, so for what seems far to us to seem close to CA, it must be pretty bad there. XD

Yeah, 3D glasses and everything. You could probably watch it online though without being in 3D. Actually, I'm certain that's the only way you can watch it online. XD But yeah, I don't care for 3D either. I appreciated it in the Yuugiou movie because it was interesting to see the cards in a new way, and honestly the 3D thing looked better and less nauseating with drawn animation rather than polygon or real life. Otherwise I have never liked 3D. It's just too gimmicky and distracting. Apparently Avatar was amazing in 3D and it actually managed to enhance the movie, but I only saw it in 2D. Kind of interesting you have to go to different theaters to get 2D versions though... the ones here always offer times in 3D and 2D, so that's how I saw Avatar in 2D and such. Yuugiou was obviously an exception since it only premiered in one theater within an hour of me and only four times at that theater in two weeks.

@Morgey: Personally the Pegasus/Kaiba thing made that half of the movie for me. XD

Haha, good luck having tears of being touched rather than tears of laughter if you see Bonds Beyond Time.

The Kaiba/Pegasus was the best bit. That I remember. Which is just that really. So it wins by default.

Don't you diminish the beauty of ... thing!

Fair enough, though I remember most of the movie and the Pegasus/Kaiba thing was still one of my favorite parts. XD

I diminish it. I diminish it like it has never been diminished before.

@Morgey - That's most of what I remember too, that and the fail monster/villain, whatever. I don't even remember the why, just that it was the lamest battle I've ever seen.

Yea, I really loved the first generation of characters in Skins and just couldn't be bothered to "care" all over again. With the new YGO series it would probably be what I think of the characters, which is why 5D looked more appealing to me in GX, the characters seemed better. However I just haven't had the time.

The census is a populous survey, not a voice survey, that's just silly. Most of my friends are talking about drawing cocks and claiming to be Jedi. I don't know why they bother handing them to students.

@Kits - Yea people are much more amenable to houses popping up than apartments, just because apartments usually come with a lower income of tenant, and stereotypes about the lower income bracket do generally prove to be true.

Where in CA did you go? I mean yea I'm sure NY is worse (though NY is also as highly populated but MUCH smaller, CA land wise is the 3rd biggest state I think, makes a big difference). However if you are driving through LA in rush hour it will seriously take you 2 hours to travel a few miles, so yea, it's pretty bad. Berkeley and SF can be the same way, Berkeley is probably worse because SF has more public transit options and is easier to walk. So I'm not saying all of CA is horrible, but large sections of the populated part get pretty bad. I mean Hayward - Davis can be driven in about an hour and 20 minutes, but in traffic it's taken me about 4 hours before. Which is just ridiculously awful. I've planned my trips to just drive in the middle of the night sometimes rather than sit in traffic.

Even if Avatar looked amazing it still probably would have given me a headache, so I don't think it would be worth it for me. Nothing looks cool enough to justify feeling like puking after a movie. I didn't see Avatar, having seen Fern Gully and Pocahontas I apparently already had the plot, giant blue aliens weren't enough of an originality draw for me, heh. And yea the theater by where I'm from had 2D and 3D, however Davis is a much smaller town. And they weren't even showing Alice in either of the two main theaters but in the Varsity, which generally has a lot more of the independent films. So there you don't get options, there are only a few screens. So my Alice experience wasn't a general example of the option to avoid 3D. Like when I saw Tangled we specifically went to one of the time slots that had 2D, that was no problem.

Pegasus/Kaiba made half of the movie for me as well. lol

I TOTALLY read that "tears of being touched" thing the wrong way, as in implications of ***** bear popped into my head. xd

Kits: I want to say that those moments are what YGO movies are for, but OMG WHAT IF THAT MEANS I'M NOT A TRUE FAN!?!?

You're mean =[

JK: Yep, it's a big investment , getting into a whole new load of characters. I find the premise of 5D interesting (silly, but interesting), but a premise isn't enough to hook me. Which is why I follow so few things, it's not easy to care about characters if you don't watch them. =p

Actually, my chaplain asked what I plan to do after uni yesterday. I should have said "Give the rest of the YGOverse a chance".

It's tempting to be rude, but they slap you with a big fine if you get caught screwing around with it so I wouldn't dare.

Tears of being touched - that's so horrible but God help me, I laughed.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 27, 2011 11:44 pm

@JK: Sad, but true. I like apartments though; they're cozy.

Um, I've been to a lot of parts of California... area I've been to most often is San Diego. But yeah, that does sound pretty bad. I haven't been to LA, so that would explain a lot.

Fair enough. Haha, yeah, Avatar's plot was really cliche, but I will give it that it was delivered well. Like it pretty much was Pocahontas, but it was Pocahontas with five times better character development, script, acting, directing... even though I had seen the plot before, I enjoyed it a lot just because it was presented so well, and I don't just mean visually. The characters were very engaging. But anyway, yeah, I made sure to see Tangled in 2D as well. XD I don't remember what I saw Alice in, I think 2D. My friends and I generally prefer that, but sometimes if others want to see it in 3D, I'm fine with that too.

Ghh, you pervert, I couldn't think of a better way to word it! XD

@Morgey: I <3 U 2

...you get fined if you're rude to university employees? Or is that what a chaplain is?

@Morgey - If I had free time a solid intrigue might be enough to hook me, but the problem is free time. And again it'll have to hook me pretty early on (regardless of if I start at the beginning or not) or else I'll give up. So I either have to luck into starting at a good point or it just has to be the kind of thing that has some level of draw in every episode.

You should have said that, haha. Went to drinks with some staff members and part of my course today. Fun but also stressful. *sigh* I am so scared of the future. ~_~

Haha, I laughed too. I'm a horrible person. xp

@Kits - I like apartments for where I am in life now. If I had a family though or lived with a big family I probably wouldn't find them ideal.

San Diego is SoCal, and probably not as bad as LA which is probably the worst of SoCal traffic. SoCal a lot of what's bad is concentrated to the LA area. NorCal there is a spread between the Bay Area and the Sacramento Area which can be pretty heavily trafficked (the worst for me was taking 2-3 hours to get between Davis and Sac which are less than 30 minutes apart). After that Sac to the Tahoe area can be pretty bad too, but that's because the majority of it is one lane. So during rushes in holiday/weekend/vacation times it's just insanity.

Oh, nobody else has said the characters were even worth it, so idk. From the previews they didn't seem particularly striking, not enough for me to go see a recycled plot. Pretty much everyone else has said all the merit is in the visual, and that's nice, but not enough for me to go see a movie. A picture yes, a movie no. I have to really want to see something (or be with those who are going) to see it in 3D, especially since it costs more. I mean having to pay more to get a headache is not necessarily something I'm amenable to.

I won't deny the pervert accusation. razz
PostPosted: Mon Mar 28, 2011 9:55 pm

Haha, family? What's that? Never heard of it.

Yikes, one lane? That's ridiculous.

I saw it in 2D though; I agree about the headache of 3D not being worth the extra money, but that wasn't a problem with Avatar for me.

You get a fine for not doing the census. I need to stop assuming people can mind read and just saying stuff without giving context.

It ate everybody!

Got to run so I can't answer stuff properly, sorry.

@Kits - Lucky you. The one thing I love most about college is I'm always far enough away that I have to move out. Whenever I'm not in school I've never had a job that paid decently enough to justify paying rent, thus I'm stuck with the parental units, and at times the brother. I already feel cramped sharing a house with them, I definitely wouldn't want to share more than that. And well, as far as the MAYBE on the kids thing goes (*shudders* my friend was joking at lunch yesterday that in 10 years they'd track me down and find I had 7 kids. One, unless I had one or several large multiple births, that'd mean starting like now...creepy!!) I wouldn't want to live in an apartment as a parent either. So for as long as I'm single and/or not in a large family situation (i.e. living with more than just a man friend...heh, I like that term, man friend) than I like apts. Otherwise nope.

Yea and it's often under construction at that! It's just winding up through the mountains for long ways, so unless you can make the mountains wider you can't really have more lanes.

@Morgey - I think as a non-citizen and only very temporary resident they'd have a hard time tracking me down. But I finished it last night and I'm about to go turn it in on my way to the library, so done deal. ^_^

NOOOOOOO!!! Get back here Morgey, GET BACK HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! razz

@JK: Yeah, it sucks how far most colleges are. I'm living at home because of the lack of money thing, but then I have to travel for two hours to get to school every day. But anyway, haha, wouldn't want an apartment if I lived in a cramped situation, but I'm not really planning for that to happen.

Ugh...
PostPosted: Mon Apr 04, 2011 9:44 am

Is that two hours round trip or two hours one way? Because yikes if you are actually traveling 4 hours a day for school, though again I knew several people in CA, at Davis, who did it. I don't think I could take 4 hours a day commuting. I did roughly 2 hours round trip for work for awhile (though sometimes because of traffic it would be more, but the drive itself was only about 40-50 miles and if I could avoid traffic - which I usually did by just leaving early/leaving late - though that also sucked, however I'd rather not just sit and not move), but that was definitely pushing it for me.

Technically that's two hours one way, but that includes driving to where the bus picks up, waiting for the bus, then actually taking the bus. And the majority of the trip is just the bus ride, so I can do homework and stuff during it. Obviously I'd prefer not to have the commute, but I've saved so much money and don't have the hassle of moving for summers and such.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:36 am

When I lived about a 15 minute drive from Davis I took the bus, and it definitely extended the trip. I had to take a bus to the bus (until I hurt my knee, then I had to drive to the second bus because I just couldn't do the walk). Plus the buses ran once an hour on a schedule that either meant I'd be 40 minutes early for class or 15 minutes late. It was a little annoying, I'd have to get up earlier and sometimes get home later, and when paying $500 in rent extra time away from the house (I eventually ended up really resenting anyhow, because of drama with the people) got aggravating. I couldn't do a two hour one way commute though, that would be 4 blown hours of the day for me because I can't read/write/etc on a moving vehicle. I have motion sickness, but it doesn't result in nausea but really bad headaches. So I'd only be able to read for about 10 minutes before I'd have to spend the rest of the trip and probably a significant portion of the day feeling ill. So while I'd love saving money and the hassle of moving (if I didn't stay at school, I usually stayed summers because school is where I worked anyone, and one summer I did do summer classes), that's too long of a commute for me to justify the value. I don't think I could have 4 hours a day in which I pretty much do nothing because I can't be productive on a vehicle. But yea I know plenty of people who make that type of commute, and they hate it but they get by. It helps that they can read or whatever during it.

Back when the bus I take ran every hour instead of half hour, I would often have to be forty minutes early for a class too. XP And I actually do get carsick, but it is just as in the title, "car"sick. I don't actually get motion sickness to my knowledge, as I'm fine on planes, boats, buses, canoes, subways... it's just actual cars that makes me sick. But it does definitely get the worst when I'm reading or something, so I can't read or do homework on car rides, but I can on bus riders? I don't get it either.
