If you like someone you just start off by being friendly. Jumping straight from strangers to dating is usually a really bad move, I've noticed.
Personally, if I like one of my friends as a little bit more than a friend (which I do...), I try to show how much I care for him by giving him small home-made gifts and letting him know I'm there for him if he needs someone.

You shouldn't have to flirt with a guy. The guy should flirt with you. If he is shy, it proves he is willing to take a risk for you. Once said guy makes contact, just be yourself. Men are completely stupid and it should be pretty easy if he is actually into you. Awesome advice is awesome.

Thank you all for the advice and while I do agree with some of brutus' advice he was in fact a douche about it but he did give advice and for that I thank him.
