Olive went out of the community gates with the other scavengers, in search of another source of food. The community had been located near another deserted town, and it was possible that a part of the town survived--but odds were slim that it hadn't been picked over by now.
Emilie smiled weakly. "Yeah, sorry about the noise," she said, looking over her shoulder at the others in her med tent. The village leader was worried that there were too few people left in the community--but it was obvious he had never seen the inside of the med tent. He would find the opposite problem. "No, moving the whole community would produce even more problems--and the complaints would be just as loud." Emilie saw the cut on his leg when he winced, and she put her hand out, as if to keep him back down. "Alright, I know you have work, but at least let me sew you back up."

He sighed " Sure go ahead." he said and held it up for her...he needed to get back to work soon..he would be early again...maybe he should have just fell asleep in the snow and he would have gotten three hours..hopefully this time it wasn't three days of patrol...but he was glad the others were fine as he was taking the majority of the punishment.
Marcus had been bored all day..he still wished he was a scavenger so he didn't have to sit up here all the time but the village elder persisted he remain up here.

Emilie grabbed her surgical kit and grabbed a needle and thread--it was terribly primitive, and the disinfection methods were not hospital grade, but it had been closing the wounds of the injured since the bombs, and it hadn't failed her yet. Sitting down before him, she rolled up his pantleg, and examined the cut, before carefully stitching it shut. "To be honest," she whispered to him. "It would probably in one's best interest to run off from the community in a small group. Just a few people could survive well on their own."
The wind had picked up, and combined with the icy temperatures, it was not turning out to be an easy day for the scavengers. But about four miles out from the community, the group had reached the remains of an old town--not very big, but it had a large club chain store. If Marcus complies and helps me convince the village leader to move the settlement, we could easily set up shop here--even if it's empty.

Marcus sighed as time went by and he got off ship early. He waited for the scavengers..and he decided he would help her out..he always did anyway so it wasn't new at all.
Amon smiled and winced a bit as she sewed up his wound and looked at her " I agree...but who would agree...if once person leave more people leave at a time..it just keeps growing..yuor heart is too good for it anyway." he said " Besides I'm most likely to die from exhaustion by the time we find a place to set up the community so we might as well stay..help them rebuild...and become smarter..I'm not sure." he said " I just wish there was some society out there that could support this many people." he said.

Finishing up on his leg, Emilie cut the thread and tied off the end. With little stress on it, and the natural cold of the nuclear winter, his leg would be fine in just a few days--luckily, the cut was deep, but not damaging. "Well sure, a few would follow the example," Emilie replied, as she wrapped a bandage around the stitched area of Amon's leg. "But if the alternative is to either to wait to die or to wait for the others to wise up, then its cons seem trivial." Amon, of course, was right. With so many people, ragtag communities like this didn't stand a chance. Only the large civilizations could handle the large populations.
The scavenger group had never returned to the community with the alacrity that they had today. The club chain store was pretty emptied out, but there was a greater discovery--an airlifted box of supplies was right outside of the front steps of what was once city hall. On their way back, a few scavengers had grabbed small things from the supplies to use as proof that they had found something--Olive had brought back a case of penicillin. Reaching the settlement entrance, Olive noticed Marcus wasn't at his post, and when she entered the community gates, she looked around for him, to tell him the good news.

[Writers block] He nodded and stood up looking at her " Thank you for the assistance." he said and bowed before he walks off to continue with patrol.
Marcus was looking around as well until her ran into Olive. He looked at her " There you are..I have decided to help..but its gonna take more than me this time I think." he said and looked at her.

Emilie looked up at Amon just as he got and left to return to his station. "Take care of yourself," she called after him. Life in the community sucked enough, but it would be far worse without people like him living in it with her.
Olive had the biggest smile on her face when she found Marcus, even though he admitted that he thought they would need more support when meeting with the leader. Excitedly, she held up the case of penicillin. "Marcus! Look what we found!" she cried.

Marcus looked at her and little surprised " Penicillin huh?" he said and smiled " Well I'm certainly glad you took my job now." he said and smiled " Maybe now it'll be easier...but as much as I don't want to associate with her....we should go speak with the doctor and get her help before we confront the village leader about relocating the community to whatever it is you found." He said and smiled walking off towards the medical tent as he walked in and waited for Olive.

"No, it's not about the penicillin," Olive cried. "I mean, yeah...it's penicillin and the doctor needs it. But we found it in an airlifted crate! These are recent!" Olive followed him to the med tent the whole time she was talking.
Emilie noticed one of the guards--Marcus--and Olive coming into her tent. She once had to help Marcus when he got hurt and had to retire from scavenging. "Hey guys, what are you doing here?" she asked, in the middle of wrapping a child's broken finger.

Marcus looked at her and sighed before looking at Olive " Olive do you mind covering yuor ears?" he asked her before he turned to the doctor " Doctor Emilie it would seem that we need to move." he said " They found an Airlifted crate..and we know its time to move..but this time I myself can not help convince our boneheaded elder...would you please...help us." he said cringing a little when he said the words "help" and "please" to an outsider but she saved his life so he owed her.

Quizzically, Olive complied, putting the case under her arm and covering her ears, giving Marcus a strange look.
"An airlifted crate?" Emilie cried in disbelief, keeping her voice low enough not to attract the attention of the patients in the tent around them. She could tell that Marcus was bothered by having to stoop to her level and employ her help, but Emilie was bent on helping the community above even the prejudice of her fellow survivor. "What can I do? Will he even listen to me? It's no mystery how certain people feel towards us outsiders."

He sighed " Your the village doctor...you at least have some respect..I know that...I haven't been...the best friend to you..or any of the outsiders but.." he said " As you are the only doctor and a pretty good one...so I'm sure with all three of us..we can convince him..please." he said " You can at least try." he said.

Emilie listened and nodded, reluctantly understanding what Marcus was saying. "Alright, I'll help. I suppose if all three of us go together, he can't really stand to refuse," she replied. Hearing Marcus recount his transgressions towards her, Emilie got a bit mad, remembering how she and the other outsiders were treated--but she pushed it out of her mind.
"Am I allowed to listen now?" Olive asked, half-joking as she removed her hands from her ears and readjusted her grip on the box of penicillin. "Emilie? Does this mean you're in?" Emilie nodded in response. "Alright, let's go."

Marcus nodded " Okay lets get this over with" going back to his usual angry self since she was listening as they went to the main tent. Once they got there he went in first and waited to be joined. He looked at the elder the way he did an outsider beacuse he hated the leader jsut as much but no one really knew it.

A bit confused by his sudden shift in demeanor, Emilie followed Marcus out of the med tent, and towards the lodgings of the leader. She entered a bit hesitantly, after both Marcus and Olive were already inside. Emilie had had very little contact with the leader, because she didn't know how he might receive her--she had quite a standing, yet little history in the community.
Olive too followed, entering the tent just before Olive and standing beside Marcus once she was in, still holding the case of medicine in her hands. "Sir? We need to talk to you," she cried, not waiting for any invitation to talk. "After going over the supplies, I believe it would be a good time to consider relocating the community."
