Four Lobsters -- Herryk x Freya
Herryk finds out Freya really isn't all that bad. She's uh... actually pretty awesome.

SOLO: Ghouls are confusing. -- Herryk.
WC: 898

After leaving Freya's dorm, Herryk had a lot on his mind. Ever since coming to the academy things had happened rapid-fire. He'd made a few friends, a few acquaintances. Things had been pretty docile until very recently. There had been one turning point in his life that had thrown him for a loop and he wasn't quite sure how or why.

Freya.

Something about the blonde hair, the accent, the name, the wings, the blue eyes... there was something about this heady combination that just knocked all vestiges of common sense and rationality out of the window. Completely. He couldn't put a finger on any one reason that made him react so strongly to the ghoul. All Herryk knew was that something was drawing her to him. Something about her just... flipped a switch in his brain that made him act like a brute.

"Herryk is not a brute," he grumbled to himself as he exited the reaper dorms and turned a left, heading in the direction of his own dorm. Throwing his cape across his shoulders, Herryk absently secured the rune-chain across his chest, clipping the opposite ends of the chain to either side of the cape. He paused in his steps for a moment, lifting one broad finger to tap against the rune that Freya had identified as Thor's. Deep in thought, Herryk grunted and continued walking.

There was so much meaning in the runestones and it frustrated Herryk in ways that he could not explain. There was something so disjointing about simply... waking up in a place that you do not recognize without the ability to recall anything about your life. There were certain things that Herryk felt strong, strong ties to. His chains, for one. Snorri, his woe hound. Most recently and perhaps most importantly there was Freya. Even Hel, to a certain extent, awoke vague, untangible thoughts that niggled at his brain.

Reaching the end of the pathway from the Reaper dorms where it arched towards the registration office, Herryk cut across to the undead pathway. His thoughts obviously were consuming him and while that was all well and good, Herryk knew that nothing would come of all of these thoughts. He had no control over them, no way of trying to work things out so that he could obtain answers. It was hopeless. Herryk knew it, and so he decided to turn his attention back to something he could work through, something that he could control.

His future.

More specifically, his future plans for Freya.

Herryk knew that if Hel hadn't stumbled in on their illicit little ... goings on, he and Freya would have done terrible, naughty things. In the beginning he hadn't been so sure what it was all about, but as they talked more about it (and as Herryk touched Freya's skin more and more) Herryk had gotten the general jist of things. There was no doubt in his mind that he would have gotten what he'd set out for when he stepped into Freya's dorm, but the sight of short little baby sister Hel standing wide-eyed in Freya's room had kind of... set things straight in Herryk's mind.

They'd just met, for Jack's sake. Herryk blamed it on the strong sense of familiarity that he felt when he was around Freya. That and she was just too soft and willing to stop Herryk when he started asking more and more of her. It was almost embarassing to think about, the way he'd acted in the restaurant, and Herryk shouldered the blame entirely. The one question that remained in Herryk's mind was: would he react this way to all females? He hadn't felt that excitement when he was around Lattice, but then again Lattice was... something different. Soft, sweet. Innocent?

With a grunt, Herryk stormed through the front doors of the undead dorms.

Freya deserved better than he'd given her. He was now bound and determined to take things as slow as possible. He only hoped that he could find a ghoul that would help him on this quest of sorts. Hel came to mind first -- who would know Freya better than her own sister? He would have to meet up with her soon if only to ask her what kind of things Freya liked. That single thought made him feel even worse than he already did. He literally knew next to nothing about Freya and yet he'd been oh so ready and willing to take things to a level that would have gone quickly out of control.

It didn't take long for him to reach his room. Opening the door to his dorm, Herryk stepped in and slammed it shut. The excited derpy yips of his foxfires soothed him, and when Snorri slowly rose in that lazy way of his in order to greet his master, Herryk smiled. Giving the woe hound a gentle pat on the head, Herryk made his way over to the foxfire pen so that he could let them out for a little exercise. He'd take them out for walkies a little later, but for now they would be fine. Herryk made his way to one of his overstuffed chairs, flopping into it with a loud exhale.

His first and oldest and most favorite Nanna made her way to his chest before licking his cheek and settling down on his shoulder with a grumble. Herryk used an index finger to brush under her chin. His eyebrows drew down in a soft frown as he closed his eyes. It had been a long, roller-coaster day, and he was ready to relax with his foxfires. The field trip was fast approaching, and so for now he would turn his thoughts to that.

SOLO: Herryk gets a laptop. -- Herryk.
WC: 879

To be honest, Herryk wasn't really looking forward to becoming more technologically advanced, but it seemed like everyone was connected to this internet in one way or another -- eyephones, eyepods, texting, messaging, groanspring -- the list went on and on and on. Herryk had none of these things and because of it he was feeling kind of like he was missing out on something.

Rounding up his foxfires, Herryk herded them in to their little homey cage but not before he said goodbye to each of them, smooching each one on the head as he said his goodbye.

"Goodbye, Nanna. Herryk loves his Nanna."

"Goodbye, Signy. Be good sweet Signy."

"Goodbye, Shiva. Herryk will bring back a treat for Shiva!"

"Goodbye, Skalla. Don't be a bad pup!"

"Goodbye, Hanna! Sweetest Hanna, oh Herryk loves his Hanna."

"Goodbye, Arya. Don't bite anyone."

"Goodbye, Brigga! Nice little Brigga. Ohhh."

"Goodbye, Dagny! Pretty girl, Herryk loves you!"

"Goodbye, Erla! Be nice to the others!"

"Goodbye, Freyja! No lobsters for you! Hah hah hah!"

"Goodbye, Hagga. Pretty brown Hagga. Be good!"

"Ohhh, Hedvig. Prettiest Hedvig. Goodbye! Herryk loves you!"

"Goodbye, Helga and Skarla," he whispered to the baby poofs, "Nanna will watch over you!"

"Goodbye, Ingrid! Goodbye Magga! You sisters be good, my pretty girls!"

"Goodbye, Martta! Help Nanna!"

A good fifteen minutes later the giant Draugr slowly backed out of his dorm, making kissy noises the entire time. As he closed the door behind him, he called to Snorri, "Goodbye, Snorri! Look after Nanna and the others!" Locking his dorm room door behind him, Herryk made his way to the exit of the undead dorms. He wasn't really sure what he was looking for, but he did know one thing for certain -- he was NOT going to the maul. He'd heard that the place to go was Fried, and after pouring through the skellyphone book, Herryk had found their address.

It didn't take long for the boil to make his way to the store. Though he didn't walk fast, his legs had a way of eating up the ground.

The store was huge, and Herryk was immediately overwhelmed. Wandering around like a little lost boil, he got lost instantly in the furniture section. A thankful smile spread across his face when he was approached by a young, awkward looking boil.

"Hello! Welcome to Fried. Are you looking for anything in particular?"

The Draugr looked pensive for a long moment before he haplessly waved a large hand. "Herryk needs... Herryk needs... an internet."

The shorter, rail-thin boil -- whose name was Dale according to the nametag he boasted -- looked baffled for a moment.

"An internet?" Dale fairly squeaked, sliding a finger between his neck and his snappy polo work shirt, "I'm.. we don't sell an internet here. If you have a computer, you should probably find out--"

"YES!" Herryk bellowed gleefully, snapping his fingers, "Herryk needs one of those."

Dale shrank back slightly in fear when Herryk spoke, though when he caught sight of the giddy expression on the Draugr's face, he looked a little hopeful.

"E-excellent," the boil stammered, clearing his throat and indicating meekly that Herryk should follow him, "C-come with me."

Herryk gleefully followed, staring down at the back of the boil's head. He'd come to the right place, and Dale was obviously the coolest bro ever. This was going to be far less painful than he'd thought!

"Great," Dale came to a stop before a display of various computer-related things, "What will you be using the machine for? Gaming? School? Movies? Internet browsing?" Dale watched Herryk as he spoke, noticing the way the Draugr's brows dropped at each suggestion before a brilliant smile came over Herryk's face when Dale said internet browsing.

"Yes," Herryk said solemnly. "Herryk will need a squee-mail, a groanspring, a HIM, and other things. Herryk ... is very new." His brows furrowed again as he watched Dale.

"Ahh, uh, okay, so uh, Herryk, is it?" Dale pointed at a small, thin thing that Herryk could only assume was one of these computer things that Dale mentioned. "This machine here is going to be powerful enough to run the programs you are going to need--"

"Herryk goes to school," the draugr interjected.

"Ahhh, uhh -- great, so, yeah, this machine is going to be able to run any programs you need for school and it'll also run the internet at blazing spe--"

"Herryk will take it."

Dale gaped. This was the easiest sale he'd ever had to make. The boil scrabbled around, gathering other supplies that Herryk might need: a mouse, mousepad, screen cleaner, laptop bag. Herryk watched with an inscrutible gaze, though he smiled the most beautiful smile when Dale presented him with all of his supplies. At Herryk's clueless glance, Dale helped set the draugr up with a squee-mail, a groanspring, an HIM, and anything else he could think of.

"Herryk is thankful," the dark undead intoned, clapping frail little Dale on the back with a broad hand.

"N-no problem," Dale smiled, though it looked more like a grimace, "Come back if you need anything else."

After paying for his purchases, Herryk strolled home. He couldn't wait to get back to his dorm so he could get his laptop settled. It would be so exciting to finally be plugged in to the internets.

SOLO -- Herryk
WC: ~830

Tomorrow was the field trip.

Herryk sat criss-cross applesauce on his fur-covered bed. A simple linen wrapped around his waist, effectively creating a simple undergarment. On his lap was his Nanna, and in one big, broad hand, Herryk clutched a small plastic heart-shaped bristle brush. With gentle motions he was drawing the bristles through Nanna's soft fur. His dark brows were drawn together, lower lip trapped between his teeth. It was obvious there was something on his mind, something dire and important, and it was obvious that he was trying to figure out the best way to go about bringing up the topic to Nanna.

"Nanna," he said to the foxfire, his voice wobbly with emotion, "Herryk will be taking a trip tomorrow. He will be gone a few days. Nanna is in charge while Herryk is gone. Everything will be fine, Nanna." It was apparent that Herryk was the one who needed consoling, not the foxfire he was addressing. He never seemed to notice their vacant gazes or derpy smiles. To Herryk, these pups were his greatest joy in life. And while they all held a special place in Herryk's heart, Nanna was his most favorite.

Sweet Nanna was Herryk's best friend. She listened to him when he needed to talk, she never told his secrets. Sweet Nanna was the only pup that he allowed onto his bed when he slept. Nanna was his first foxfire and so because of that she was his favorite. He never said as much in front of the other pups for fear of hurting their feelings, but when he was alone with Nanna at night before he pretended to sleep, Herryk would tell her. Sometimes he would lay away for hours just talking to Nanna about his day at the Academy, or his deepest fears and darkest worries.

Setting the bristle brush on the bedside table, Herryk sat Nanna down on the bed and rose to his feet. A few long strides carried him to the pen where his other babies awaited him. As they saw him approach they erupted into a dervish of happy yips, lolling tongues and reaching paws. Herryk opened the little gate that kept them secure in their little spot. They rushed out and pooled around his feet, fuzzy paws stepping over his feet. It brought a smile to Herryk's face, and the draugr leaned down and scooped them up in his arms. The foxfires writhed against his chest gleefully as Herryk carefully carried them to the bed. They were so soft and so sweet. His little innocent babies. There were no words to describe how much he adored his foxfires.

After depositing the poofs on the bed, Herryk carefully clambered back in. The foxfires rolled around, bouncing happily one the bed, rolling into one another, yipping with glee. Herryk watched them for a long time before arranging them in a half-circle around him. Nanna was on his lap, and he seemed to take solace in brushing his broad fingers against her soft fur. He cleared his throat and looked at each of the derpy foxfires in turn before speaking.

"Now, babies, Nanna already knows this because Herryk told her first." He rubbed a finger alongside his nose, fighting the urge to cry as his poofs stared at him expectantly (more like vacantly, but to Herryk they were being attentive). "Herryk is going on a field trip with some other students from his school. Nanna is in charge while Herryk is gone, and Snorri and Karls will look after everyone." He glanced at the woehounds -- Snorri was asleep in a chair while Karls had taken up his position by the door.

"Martta is in charge second if Nanna is sleeping, but only if Nanna is sleeping. Everyone has to look out for the babies Skarla and Helga because they are the smallest." Herryk reached forward to brush a finger against Martta's nose. He was rewarded by a soft lick of her tongue. The gesture caused Herryk to smile. He then lifted up the miniscule Skarla and brushed his cheek against her forehead.

"Herryk will leave lots of food for his babies," the draugr mumbled, clasping his hands together before pressing them to his lips.

Clearing his throat, he held back tears. Sometimes he felt foolish -- he was a big boil, and big boils didn't cry -- yet there was something so innocent and pure about his poofs. They relied on him for companionship and nourishment. They were happy to see him when he came home, and Herryk just knew they missed him when he wasn't home. They were his babies, and it was only right for him to feel so attached.

"Come say goodbye to Herryk, babies. There won't be time tomorrow." He'd already packed his bag. There wouldn't be time for prolonged goodbyes tomorrow.

At his command the foxfires burst into motion. Herryk reclined on the bed, wedging one hand behind his head while the other rested on his stomach. Nanna took her spot next to his neck, and baby Skarla and Helga curled up next to Nanna. As he did most every night, Herryk half-sang, half-hummed a familiar song. He wasn't sure how he knew it and he wasn't sure what it meant, but the low timbre of his voice was a pleasant enough sound. In between little bits of the song, he would say goodnight to his foxfires in turn, calling out each of their names individually.

Soon enough the room was filled with the snores of Herryk and his foxfires.

SOLO -- Herryk
WC: 818

After seeing Freya settled in her dorm, Herryk jogged to the undead dorms. He'd taken care of priority one -- Freya -- and now on to priority two: foxfires. Despite having only been away for one single day (it'd felt like weeks since he'd been home), Herryk missed his little poofs of joy. He missed them a lot, especially after the ordeal in the room of mirrors.

That had been a terrible place.

"...and then Herryk will hug Martta, and then Herryk will hug Dagny, and then Herryk will..."

This train of thought had been in motion non-stop since Herryk had left Freya's dorm room. It continued until he was standing on the threshold of his dorm, where he paused outside just so he could finish his softly mumbled, long-winded plan for the foxfire-woehound-Herryk reunion.

"...and finally Herryk will give Karls and Snorri brushes."

Swinging his dorm room door open with flourish, Herryk swept into the dorm room with the greatest smile stretching from one corner of his mouth to the other. Arms open, stance wide, Herryk paused in muddled confusion as he took in the massive pile of poofs.

He could've sworn that when he left there had only been fifteen or so foxfires.

Herryk stopped counting at thirty.

"Nanna," he narrowed his eyes at his most sweetest and beloved only to see that there were now two Nannas. Well, there was one Nanna and one Nanna-twin. "Nanna, what has happened while Herryk has been gone?" Of course there was no answer, but it didn't matter. The more the merrier as far as the draugr was concerned. "Herryk will have to think of new names," he mumbled idly before spreading himself out on the floor. All the poofs crawled over his body, wriggling in excitement. Karls stood guard at Herryk's feet while Snorri buried himself in Herryk's hair.

"Herryk... has had a tiring day," he said to Nanna, running his fingers along her back, "and so much has happened. A teacher died," he continued softly. Nanna appeared concerned at his sad tone and moved to curl against his shoulder. "Herryk did not know her well at all but so many other students did. It is a sad thing. A very sad thing, Nanna." He shook his head. "Herryk could not be there -- he was ... dealing with other things. There was so much fighting." Herryk thought briefly of the mirror room. So many traumatic things had occurred to him and to everyone else in his group. To Barth and Calder, Christof and Freya. He wondered how the demon, kelpie and igor were doing. Once things had settled down a bit more, he would have to see how everyone was feeling.

He wasn't sure how to tell his babies that he'd come away from the trip with Freya as his ghoulfriend. In fact, Herryk wasn't entirely sure what he should be doing now that he was someone's boilfriend. Exhaling, Herryk reached up to scritch Snorri's nose. It was probably best to just come out and tell everyone. It would be better to let his babies know now rather than waiting until it was time for them to actually meet Freya.

"Herryk asked Freya to be his ghoulfriend," he said outright, staring at the ceiling as he spoke. "Herryk is excited for Nanna and the others to meet her, but she was badly hurt in battle and so that will have to wait." He frowned slightly before continuing, "Freya is also taking a trip to her sister's wedding -- Herryk has to help her pack -- so it might be a while before Freya can meet Herryk's babies."

Herryk's thoughts turned to the mirror room once more. It had broken Freya in terrifying ways, even more so than Herryk's interaction with the room had traumatized him. He remembered the way she'd been talking to him without really... talking to him. There hadn't been time to think about everything that had happened then, things had moved too fast. Each time that things had settled, well... there hadn't been time then either. With a sight, Herryk closed his eyes.

What had been tormenting Freya so during their trials in the mirror room? More importantly, how could he bring it up to her without upsetting her? The last thing Herryk wanted was to cause her upset, but seeing her react to him in such terrible and frightening ways had really thrown him for a loop. There just hadn't really been any time to think about it until now.

Exhaling softly, Herryk ran a hand down his face. There would be time for him to think about a way to tactfully bring up the topic. Freya had said she'd be leaving again in a week. A week to think of a way to pleasantly breach a topic that was very unpleasant.

Herryk groaned. This was going to be difficult.

SOLO/PRP Late Night IM -- Herryk x Mort
WC: 867 (not counting names or Mort's responses)

After almost spilling the beans to Mort on Groanspring about the poem he was working on for Freya, Herryk decided that a HIM session was in order. There, Mort would be able to give Herryk advice about his poem and Freya's surprise would not be ruined. Opening up HIM, Herryk almost immediately heard the tell-tale chime that indicated he had an instant message that required his attention.

Quote:
URwhatUeat: herryk?

Herryk couldn't help but smile, and slowly typed out his own message in response.

Quote:
deathblack: mort is that you
URwhatUeat: yes oh thank jack. i think your ghoulfriend knows man
deathblack: she is a smart one, that freya. herryk has been trying to write a love poem for three days and he is not getting far
URwhatUeat: i told her we werent so i think that'll stop her. wait 3 days? have anything down yet?
deathblack: yes, herryk has written some lines. he shared with chuppi earlier. it is a terrible mess.

Herryk reached for his book and carefully typed out the poem he'd started. Exhaling, Herryk hit the enter key.

Quote:
deathblack: This is called FREYA.

Freya is so pretty
with her eyes and hair
Freya is so sweet
and she has skin so fair

When Freya smiles
Herryk likes it
URwhatUeat: dude that's pretty cool so far, what're u talking about. D<
deathblack: really, mort can be honest with herryk
deathblack: herryk will not be upset
URwhatUeat: you made it rhyme! ghouls love it when things rhyme! that's what mama tells me. so we should make like one more verse or something n then it'll be done

Mort thought his poem wasn't that bad? That was shocking

Quote:
deathblack: what does mort suggest, herryk cannot think of something that rhymes with smiles
URwhatUeat: hold up, lemme pull up a rhyme dic online
URwhatUeat: best ones are aisles, files, miles, piles, styles, n trials
deathblack: well...
deathblack: those are terrible words mort
deathblack: herryk supposes miles could work
deathblack: she does have nice legs hah
URwhatUeat: she has a nice /everything/
URwhatUeat: but poems are hard. DX okay miles. maybe like . . . "he would go for miles"?

Herryk paused when Mort mentioned Freya's everything. Why was Mort looking at Freya's everything? Mort was lucky that Herryk liked Mort, and Herryk painstakingly typed out that fact.

Quote:
deathblack: mort is lucky herryk likes him
deathblack: or the next time herryk saw him
deathblack: he would punch mort in the face
URwhatUeat: haha yeah . . .sorryiwillshutup
deathblack: "herryk would walk for miles" maybe, mort
deathblack: do not be sorry mort, herryk is not upset
URwhatUeat: that works! please don't punch me tho
URwhatUeat: really
URwhatUeat: okay, so a rhyme for it
URwhatUeat: fit, get, grit, hit, kit, knit, lit, pit, quit, sit, spit, split, wit
deathblack: lit, quit... spit is not romantic, mort
URwhatUeat: i dunno, freya is a tough lady. maybe she'd find spit romancy?
deathblack: mort let herryk tell a secret: freya has so many pairs of shoes that herryk is afraid to try and count how many. girly shoes, too, mort. it was kind of scary.
URwhatUeat: oh
URwhatUeat: well then
URwhatUeat: spit is out
URwhatUeat: you were at the knitting thing, right? maybe you could mention that
deathblack: herryk does not recall knitting, but herryk was sewing... this is something that herryk is not proud of
URwhatUeat: oh right. i get them mixed up lol
URwhatUeat: well um . . . you like to hit right? and sit.
deathblack: okay herryk is putting this together, what does mort think
When Freya smiles
Herryk likes it
He'd walk for miles
deathblack: the first part didn't rhyme sweet and pretty so does mort think that 'it' has to rhyme with something
URwhatUeat: oh right /herp derp
URwhatUeat: so u can put whatever u want
deathblack: this poem is terrible mort
deathblack: if mort liked a girl would he give her this poem
URwhatUeat: herryk i wouldn't be able to give a poem at all. i would like go
URwhatUeat: lsdkfnlsdnflsdknfldksnfnfvds
deathblack: why mort
URwhatUeat: because thats probly when i shock myself on accident
URwhatUeat: and fall over fried
URwhatUeat: nobody likes undead flesh smell. nobody would like undead burning flesh smell more
deathblack: herryk is undead and freya does not seem to mind his smell, mort
URwhatUeat: freya is your ghoulfriend n thts what ghoulfriends do
deathblack: ...oh that makes sense, mort
URwhatUeat: also i thought you were a ghost. you had a kinda fadeyness

A loud grunt punctuated the air before Herryk began typing out that he was not a ghost. Why did everyone think he was a ghost? That was ... vaguely irritating.

Quote:
deathblack: well herryk is actually undead, sometimes others get confused and herryk always has to say "no, herryk is not a ghost, herryk is undead, look at his school ID it says undead" :T
URwhatUeat: thats really neat! i never see really buff undead look that good
URwhatUeat: neway, i keep derailing us, back to poem!
deathblack: mort let herryk give some advice
deathblack: ghouls are very confusing, mort
URwhatUeat: i dunno if im the best boil for that sort of stuff. i dont have a ghoulfriend
deathblack: herryk is just warning mort
deathblack: ghouls are confusing
URwhatUeat: ooooh read wrong lol. mimi went on my face. i dont think theyre /all/ confusing
deathblack: hahaha it is okay mort, not all ghouls are confusing
URwhatUeat: i hope not . . . after i saw a lot of them mostly naked on the trip i was /really/ confused
deathblack: confused about what, mort? naked girl parts are the least confusing thing about ghouls
URwhatUeat: well ur not supposed to see them n then u and freya were naked and hugging me n then another ghoul was naked and i was slkfnldsknflkdghld
deathblack: what does mort think about this ghoul circe? this ghoul circe seemed interested in mort
URwhatUeat: her?
URwhatUeat: um
URwhatUeat: were friends now i think? i kinda talked with her at the movie club once
deathblack: hmm. there are lots of pretty ghouls at the school. herryk knew the minute he saw freya, though, that she was the one for him. has mort met anyone like that?

No, Herryk had harbored no doubt when he'd first seen Freya. The ghoul had stolen his attention from the very start, and now that they were quickly growing closer, Herryk had little doubt that he wanted to be hers for as long as she would allow.

URwhatUeat: no . . .

URwhatUeat: and mama wants me to have good grades
URwhatUeat: ghouls are very distracting

deathblack: yes, herryk did not take it slow but he has no regrets. how old is mort?
URwhatUeat: mama said i was about 14 before i died, and ive been here for 2ish years so like 16
deathblack: mort is young still
deathblack: see how we are distracted from herryk's poem by talk of ghouls
deathblack: hahaha
URwhatUeat: lol yeah
URwhatUeat: u think u will be okay now with the poem?
deathblack: yes, mort
deathblack: mort and herryk should do something sometime
deathblack: what does mort like to do?
URwhatUeat: i like video games and reading comic books. also walking minipets. and um . . . cosplaying
deathblack: walking minipets! herryk walks his foxfires! herryk loves his poofs. what is cosplaying? what minipets does mort have? does mort have foxfires? herryk has many poofs.
URwhatUeat: i have a lot of fish, but i walk mimi and daisy. brian is too angry.
URwhatUeat: ill show you cosplaying later. its dressing up as your favorite character
URwhatUeat: whats a foxfire?

WHAT?! Mort had never seen a foxfire? Herryk hurriedly typed a response. That was utterly hard to believe! Foxfires were the best!

Quote:
deathblack: mort
deathblack: you have never seen a foxfire
deathblack: mort
deathblack: they are the best pets ever
URwhatUeat: show me when we walk them? when do you want to do it?
deathblack: herryk has to go to freya's sister's wedding except freya doesn't know so it is a secret and when he gets back we will take our pets for walkies mort
deathblack: and mort will see
deathblack: the wonderful foxfires
URwhatUeat: wedding huh? okay, just grab me on ehre or groanspring when youre back!
deathblack: okay, mort. herryk is going to go work on his poem. thanks for the help, friend
URwhatUeat: no problem, bro, tell me what freya says when you show her it!
deathblack: herryk will! goodbye, mort-bro!

Powering down his laptop, Herryk shut the lid-top. That had been a productive conversation as far as Herryk was concerned. Mort was turning out to be a very good friend. It was nice.

Rising to his feet, Herryk stretched briefly before turning to his bed. It would be a good idea to give his body a rest -- the upcoming days were sure to be hectic ones.

SOLO -- Herryk
WC: 815

He had to be crazy. There was no way that Freya wasn't going to be upset with him for conspiring with Hel behind her back, though it wasn't really conspiring. Hel had invited him to the wedding as her guest -- so why was he feeling so horrible about attending while keeping it a secret from Freya? If anything, he should be the one feeling upset because Freya hadn't invited him herself!

Lame attempt at making himself feel better, really.

Packing his belongings was a way for him to take his mind off of thinking about that whole mess. He could mindlessly pack his clothes neatly without having to deal with the rights and wrongs about the promises he'd made to Hel. It had seemed like a good idea at the time but -- no, stop it, Herryk. Think happy thoughts, yes?

As he finished stuffing his very best clothes into the supple leather knapsack he'd purchased to replace the one he'd lost on the field trip, Herryk glanced around the room to make sure he wasn't missing anything. His eyes landed on the pink book he'd been reading, the book on poetry. Herryk reached for the book, brushing his fingers along the embossed surface of the cover before opening the book, withdrawing the poem he'd written for Freya. It hadn't been easy and it had taken hours -- days -- to finish, but each time he read it his chest filled with pride. He'd decided to go a different route despite Chuppi's help and Mort's assistance. It would mean more if he wrote it himself. That was the deciding factor to scrapping the poem he'd started.

He hoped Freya liked it. Lattice had an interest in poetry, so Herryk figured it was something that all ghouls enjoyed. Unfolding the creased and ragged piece of parchment, Herryk softly whispered the words to himself. It wasn't half-bad, really. Probably incredibly unconventional, but it had come from a place in Herryk that was unexplored territory. These soft and genuine emotions could only be attributed to Freya, and in essence these very emotions were the reason that Herryk had such a desire to put the feelings to words and the words to paper. It hadn't been easy.

"at first there was nothing
just herryk in the dark and all alone
a bone-deep chill of emptiness
no memories of his own

and now there is this beauty
that has warmed herryk with its glow
what would life be with no freya
herryk doesn't want to know

there may be endless blackness
where those memories once were
but with freya by his side
herryk can make new memories with her"

Herryk grinned down at the little piece of paper with his messy, scrawled handwriting and for one moment he felt more proud than he ever had before. He tucked the scrap of parchment into the bottom corner of his knapsack. If the right momen happened along, Herryk would present it to Freya. Maybe. If he could muster up the courage. Maybe Freya wasn't the type to enjoy poetry.

Yeah, right. A ghoul with that many pairs of shoes not enjoying poetry? Herryk snorted to himself.

The topic of shoes brought another rush of memories forth. The day he'd help Freya pack her clothes had been an interesting one. It baffled Herryk as to why it was so hard for Freya to believe that she was unworthy of his attentions. Did this mean that Herryk was doing a terrible job of assuring her that he yearned for no other? Herryk snorted again. He'd been reading too much poetry as of late -- his thoughts were turning poetic. Ever since the day he'd watched her sleep it had fairly consumed his thoughts. Did he obsess? Maybe, just a little. Did Freya consume his thoughts?

Utterly.

It wasn't as though he did not make other friends. Chuppi, for one. Mort was another. He spent time with Calder, too, and Amrita at the sewing session they'd had. Herryk needed to stop by and say hello to Barth and Christof too. However, Herryk's first priority was, and always would be, Freya -- as far as personal relationships with. It frightened him, at times, how quickly he could lose focus on his true reason for being at the Academy.

Nanna yipped quietly at Herryk from her position at the head of his bed.

"Herryk will visit the gym when he returns from this trip," he promised. It would do him some good. He couldn't spend all of his time writing poetry, could he? He need to grow stronger, quicker and more agile. If he survived this wedding trip, the gym would be his first and foremost priority. Herryk exhaled loudly. That was something of a troubling thought.

If he survived.

Herryk wasn't sure who would kill him first. Freya, or Freya's family. Only time would tell.
