xxxGrace followed James, glancing at the guard at the door. She'd honestly expected the man to argue with her counselors decision, but was pleasantly surprised when he didn't. Seeing James motion her out, she went, not needing to be told that one twice. Once she stepped out of the building, she took a deep breath of the fresh air and opened her ears to all the sounds of the outdoors. The warm sunshine on her skin felt good even if it was a little hot outside, she still enjoyed the feeling of it. Grace looked over her shoulder when she heard James ask her if she liked the outdoors. "Yes. I used to go camping with my parents and brother. We'd go as often as possible," she told with a shrug as she went and sat beneath a tree to be in the shade for a little bit. "I played sports in school as well for a bit, it was fun," she added with a small smile, remembering better times.

James walked over and sat besides her, gazing up at the clear blue sky. "Really? That's pretty cool. I don't think i've ever gone camping." He shrugged and listened to her talk about school. "What sports did you play?" He was merely curious about her past. She seemed to be happy talking about it. This would be how he cured her, he'd help her remember the old times, before everything went wrong, and teach her how to go back to those times. He leaned back and relaxed, "did you like school?"

xxxGrace nodded, though didn't feel like eleborating much on her camping experiences before. "You're missing out then," was all that she said to him. Grace glanced over at him for a second when she heard his questions, pondering them over in her head for a second. "I played soccer, softball, and ran track. Softball was my favorite, track was second I think," she said to him. "I didn't mind school too much. Just the math," she said with a wry smile. "I liked the music program they have, it's where I developed my piano skills at. I got a music scholarship as well that I'd planned to use. My twin brother, Jared, and I were going to both go off to college together this fall. We both did well in school, our parents always said for us to try our hardest," she said quietly, wishing that they were all still around and that the past could reverse itself somehow.

James nodded as she spoke, taking in every word and listening to the tone of her voice. She did seem happier when she spoke of softball and music. When he heard her say something about a scholarship, he nearly asked what happened before he figured it out - so he kept his mouth shut. When she stopped talking, he started. It would be unfair for just her to be interrogated. "I played football in my HighSchool, running back." He smiled and leaned back, "I got a scholarship and that's how I paid for college." He looked at her. "I love playing the piano and I used to be able to play guitar but I haven't picked one up in years. I doubt I know how now." He chuckled softly, "it sounds like you did try your hardest, and you succeeded." He looked into her eyes, "if you were able to do it before, you could do it again." He leaned back and rested his hands behind his head. "What was it about math you didn't like? I honestly hated Science."

xxxGrace looked over at him when he said he played football, she could imagine him playing. He seemed to be the type that would and he'd played the position that her brother had the one season that he'd decidied to play. She was, however, suprised that he played the piano and wondered how good he was at it, if he was better then her; a fact that her old competitiveness hadn't faded inside her. Hearing him say that if she were able to do it before, she could do it again, Grace's eyes hardened slightly. "Doubt it. Too much has happened," she said to him simply and quickly. Nothing was going to be the same. . . she wasn't going to be the same. Grace never had been able to envision herself being able to get out of here unless it was by her own cunning plan that managed to get her out. While her thoughts were elsewhere right now, she still could concentrate enough to tell him the reason behind her hating math. "I couldn't seem to remember it is all. I studied as hard as I could, but I just couldn't get it to click in my head. Algebra about killed me. I kinda liked science though," she said with a tiny nod of her head.
Turning her attention to the gates that were the way out of the institute here, she saw them open allowing a supply truck to come through. Seeing the gates open, also allowing someone to leave if they wished, Grace had the crazy thought to make a run for it. She could make it, she was a fast runner and she knew that. Her muscles seemed to tense up almost like they were anticipating her to make the move and get up to run for it. Not yet, she thought to herself. Maybe when the truck has to leave, she tacked onto her thoughts as she relaxed once more and turned her attention back to James. "What made you get started playing the paino?" she asked him even though she was still a little preoccupied with her thoughts at the moment.

The tone of her voice gave away the fact that she was distracted. He had heard the truck pulling in, the sound of the gate groaning as it opened. He didn't have to look at her to know that she wanted out, that she was contemplating it. He didn't face her as he spoke, "Grace, don't. If you try, I will catch you and be forced to keep you in your room. You like it out here don't you? Would you like to go back to being forced to stay inside?" His voice was gentle and sympathetic. He understood she wanted out, he would too... but it wasn't the right time. "Trust me. I will get you out of this place, the right way."
He ignored her question about the piano, this was more important. Tonight, out on the street, out in the moonlight And dammit this feels too right, it's just like déja vu Me standing here with you So I'll be holding my breath, could this be the end? xxxGrace's lips pressed into a hard line when she heard what he'd said to her. After all, she was sure that to someone like him with training to recognize what might be going through the heads of others, it'd been pretty obvious about what she was thinking. But then again, she hadn't been trying to hide it either and that wasn't what was making her mad at him. It was what he was saying. He was saying it so gentle like that she almost felt like she was being a child told not to do something and being given alternate reasons for doing the right thing, instead of disobeying. Grace wasn't almost on the verge of listening to him which was what was getting her mad; she was falling for those softly spoken words of reconsideration. "And what would getting me out the right way be? 'Curing' me? Making sure that I won't go off on some crazy rampage ever again? And then when you've got all that done, you sign a piece of paper permitting me to leave and you get to feel all happy inside that you helped yet another person?" she said to him, her voice low and steady through her anger. "And then what happens to me when I do get out, hm? I don't have a life to go back to after I do get out. I have to build another one back up," she said to him. "News flash: while inside these gates are worse then out there, it's not going to be easy when I get out of here either. I've got nothing to go back to," she said to him as she stood up and walked backwards a few steps away from him. "Now, exactly how confidant are you that you'll be able to catch me before I get out of those gates?" she said to him, a mischievous smile playing across her face. She was testing him, seeing just how far his leniency towards her was going to extend. Seeing just how far she could taunt him until he had to drop his soft spoken voice and had to put some authority behind it. "I'm feeling pretty sure of myself that I'll make it," she added, the smile still in place. While Grace wasn't a huge distance runner, she could gather up some speed rather quickly. More then likely he wouldn't catch her at first, only when she started to slow.

James looked at her, "a stern voice won't help you. Me ordering you around will simply make you wish to disobey." He remained seated, watching her with an amused and curious smile. "There is no disease to cure. You are simply upset, which is a natural reaction." He yawned and watched her, listening to her words. "if you have nothing to go back to, why are you so desperate to get out?" He let that one hang there, his eyes locked with hers.
He yawned once more and stretched, cracking his back before laying back. Two guards saw her and started to approach but James held up an hand and stopped them. He stared at her, his eyes unwavering, the tone of his voice took on a new thing - amusement. "I am pretty confident. After all, you are quite competitive. I realized that when I talked about the piano. You feel like you might be able to beat me... I know I can take you." He smiled and chuckled. "Sit down or I won't be able to bring you outside again." His voice was still gentle, she wasn't getting on his nerves. She was making this interesting, fun. Tonight, out on the street, out in the moonlight And dammit this feels too right, it's just like déja vu Me standing here with you So I'll be holding my breath, could this be the end? xxxGrace's brows pulled together over her eyes as she noticed his amused and curious smile on his face. "You're a strange man, you know that?" she said to him as she shook her head, not seeing how he found this amusing when everyone else she'd pulled her crap on found it anything but. Grace tilted her head to the side slightly as she thought about his question. She didn't like how his eyes locked with hers, but she didn't dare turn her blue eyes away first. It took a while, but she finally came up with a answer that she thought adequately described what she was trying to say. "Because, I can at least try to make some sort of a life once I get out here. In this place, I can't do anything without first being told that I can. I have no free will. Outside of this place I'll once again have my choices back, I'll be able to do something for myself," she said to him before looking away at a bird in a tree. She wasn't really all that interested with the bird, but it was better then keeping her eyes locked with his for any longer.
Grace glanced over at the two guards that she saw started to approach and she tensed up slightly. She hated it when the guards of this place came after her, she hated them and the nurses here more then anything. Whenever they came around, it was never good. "I disagree," she said simply, bringing her attention back to him, when he said that he could take her. "I should challenge you to a race or something sometime," she added a few seconds later. Grace frowned down at him when he told her to sit again, but reluctantly, she did as he said. "Why is this funny to you?" she snapped at him, not understanding why he seemed to be so amused by all of this when she was, for the most part, serious.

James shrugged, "I get that alot, although I don't see how I am strange. Care to elaborate?" He cocked his head to the side. She was being incredibly serious and he wasn't. That bothered her. He remained quiet as she tried to think, "do you know how much harder it would be if you tried to leave right now, versus me helping you?" He stood up and removed his jacket before hanging it in the tree. James then loosened his tie and set it on the branch as well. He unbuttoned the first two or three buttons of his shirt then sat besides her once more. "Cuz if you were truly so intent on leaving, that was your chance." As he said that he motioned towards the gate - the now sealed gate. "Part of you wants my help."

xxxGrace sighed slightly at that. She didn't really care to elaborate, but she was going to anyway. "I don't know why other people think you're strange, but you're strange to me because you're so. . . different? I guess that's a good word for it," she said with a shrug. "You aren't taking the same approach to things as my previous counselors have taken. . . I don't know what to expect half the time," she said, adding just a bit more to what she'd already said. The fact that she didn't know what to expect honestly frightened her slightly, but it was a fear that she didn't show very prominently.
"Yes, I'm aware of that," she said to him quietly, leaving a good deal of what she was thinking unsaid. She knew it would be harder on her if she escaped out of this place. . . but she also didn't have much hope left that she was going to ever get out. Sure, he said he was going to help her, but several others before him had said that same thing to her already. What would make her believe his words above the rest? Grace hadn't been paying much mind to James as he took off his jacket and basically just got himself more comfortable until he'd spoken to her again. She looked over in the direction of the closed gates before looking back at James and rolling her eyes. "None of me wants your help. . . thought I'd make that clear," she said to him and that part was true. I just recognize the fact that I need it," she said almost inaudibly. Want and need were two very different things to her at this point.

xxxGrace watched him as he got up to leave, motioning to her that she needed to get back inside once more. While Grace wanted to stay out here longer, she knew that as soon as the guards saw that her counselor had left that they were just going to drag her back inside anyway so she chose to go back on her own. "Nope. Nothing that I can think of," she said to him which wasn't entirely true. There were a couple things that she wouldn't mind having here, but the fact that he was offering to do something nice for her was the reason behind Grace refusing his offer. While she would allow him to do his job without too much of a hard time, she wasn't going to accept anything that he did beyond that very graciously. At least, not at this point she thought as she walked inside the building once more to the stale air that greeted her.

xxxGrace turned around to face him at what she'd heard him say and frowned slightly. "Fine, if you're really that determined to bring me something then how about you bring back a nice, greasy fast-food meal? The food here sucks," she said to him as she turned around and started walking again. However, when she caught sight of the two elderly doctors start walking over, she stumbled in her steps to a halt slightly. She tilted her head to the side slightly, trying to figure out if they were coming to talk to her or to James. She was hoping for the latter.
"I do want to ask one thing before you leave though," she said to him. "If you could change what thing that you've done, what would it be?" she asked him. It may have been percieved as a strange and slightly random question to ask, but Grace had a reason behind asking it, it just wasn't a reason she was about to share quite yet. All the while, she never took her eyes of the doctors walking closer and closer even though the question was clearly directed at him.
