well then i think i need help finding my fursona.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 17, 2011 12:59 pm
I'd say if you have the time I'd study animal behaviors as far in depth as you can and find what animal you're most like.
Or find an animal you think you connect to most.

Don't do what I've seen.
I was trying to help someone with their fursona. They said that they connected with canines but more the domestic dogs. But then turned around and made their fursona a wolf even though a couple of us suggested being a husky since they're in essence a domestic wolf.

Behaviors don't really matter.
It matters more what you prefer and can relate to.
You might purr like a cat, but you like the family style of a wolf pack.
You can be whatever you want to be.
There are no constraints; that's the beauty of fantasy.

But there are cats out there with a wolf type mentality. Lions for example.

True, but there's no need to be something just because you act like it.
You should just pick something you like.
Or associate with.
If you feel more like one animal versus another, then no one can tell you different just because of "behaviors".

Not to say people shouldn't pick animals based on their behaviors.
It's a good way, but it's not the only way.
You can't say one way is wrong and the other is right.
There's no wrong way to be a part of a fandom.

If you feel more like one animal versus another, then no one can tell you different just because of "behaviors".
But if you associate with it then you would already act like it and like it.

I mean associate with as in you feel a kinship to that animal.
You might like it because it's pretty or has a nice pattern.
I'm not saying you're wrong.
I'm saying you can't discriminate.

But I know that's what you meant by associate. But if you had a kinship that'd statement would still hold true.

You made it sound like picking something of your own volition despite what other people say is incorrect.
It doesn't matter what anyone says, the only one who makes the choice is yourself.

But the fact was she was picking something that she didn't strongly associate with.
And that's not discriminating. Me discriminating would be saying something like all wolf furs are stupid because of what this one person did.

Discrimination is treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

No need to define discrimination, I know what it means.
And you were discriminating because you were saying that people who pick an animal they don't behave like is incorrect and frowned upon.
It is a group.
And you were making a distinction against them.

Did I say group? I was only talking about one person.

It was implied that people who make the same choices are incorrect.
Many racists talk about one person they know, and it's implied they mean the entire group.

We can argue the technicalities of words all night long.
Either way.
Furries do not have a set of rules to follow.
You can be anything and everything you want.
Anyway you want.
A purple chicken that barks like a dog.
Or a calico cat that curls up by the fire.
It doesn't matter.
It's all about what each individual person wants for themselves.

If you ever pick your animal, or still need some things to look at, you can check out Fursona creators.
But remember, you don't really need a Fursona to be a Furry.
:3
All up to you~
