So just because someone wants to pass a bad Bill that's overkill, we shouldn't do anything to fight against blatantly illegal activity?

No, but they should get someone who actually knows what the hell they're talking about to write these things. And who isn't a lobbyist for MPAA or RIAA.

Seriously, I'd have no problem if they were only targeting sites that were making a profit doing nothing but selling pirated DVDs or whatever, but they're going after everything,

for instance, megaupload was unavailable to everyone cause a music lable claimed it was distributing copyrighted material so the site went down. later music artist wrote songs speaking out against this action and put them on youtube, shortly after those same corporations demanded youtube take them down due to copyrighted material they owned.

they didn't have any legal ownership of the material.

sopa would allow this to happen much more frequently.
throw PIPA into the mix and you got corporate control over internet based media. it may be 21 mins long but just listen to the cynical brits vid on the bills. it'll bring to light how those will hurt you as a web user.

otherwise valve has the right idea for fighting piracy, provide a better service than pirates do.

louis CK caught on to this and provided a a product that wasn't so protective of itself no one wanted it without hacking the DRM.

wow this turned out longer than i expected. rant over.
