"A white picket fence? A pet, long driveway? One or two stories?" Ben pale lips flashed a small grin as he added to Aimee's suggestion. Her idea of their future was far brighter than his own. Toying with the loose, undone stitching of his pants pocket, he glanced over to her. Her optimism was a trait of her's the he admired and maybe even adored. Throughout what she'd been through and seen alongside the dark haired teen, she managed to remain more spirited than he. Cynically, he thought that maybe it was just a coping mechanism. Deep down though, he knew that her joy, which over the years had been somewhat dampened due to more than obvious circumstance, would never vanished. If she didn't smile, the who would?

After the young blonde formed the roofs of the cars to make a stand to scan the distance, Benicio's eyes sparkled when she spotted an operational store. A warm, satisfied smirk glimmered beneath his otherwise tired and fatigued eyes and he turned in the direction she pointed out. "Well, how do you want to get there?" asked the boy. "Walk? Or race?"

Aimee laughed as she landed, looking at Ben and tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder. "Let's walk. I want to talk a while before we get there." She wrapped her arm around Ben's, making it look like he was almost escorting her somewhere. "Tell me something, Ben... You think we would ever be here?" Aimee's bright eyes looked at the tired boy's face, her question seeming almost perfect for the time and place that they were at. "Just thinking about it all, it makes you wonder what would have happened if I was gone and you were left a lone... or vice versa." She spoke softly, her eyes now down at the ground as her body shook with a disturbing shiver from the images in her head of what it would have been like without him there. He was her rock, the one that kept her from losing it completely, her chain back to earth. She knew he felt the same way because of how they stuck together when the disaster struck. Aimee could replay that day over and over in her head like a movie, every word, every movement.

"Well now, shall we?" Benicio bit back a small chuckle after Aimee opted for a walk rather than a race. It was in the natural man's nature to move quickly as that was what he'd been doing almost all of his life anyway but for her, he knew he could spare himself his instincts. The blonde passed him by, tossing a few loosely hanging threads over her shoulder. The young man slipped his hands into his pockets and followed behind her. Tiredly, he started through halved eyes at Aimee. Tilting his head, he brought out a fatigued crack from his bones and answered her question.

"I'm more than certain that I'd have been dead a long time ago if you weren't around. If I wasn't somewhere having my organs harvested or being hung because of my illness, I'd be fighting for my life more harshly than I am now. Senseless killing and the like." As honestly as he could, the young teen gave his thoughts on the question his only friend posed. Before the silence of the night could bury itself into the talk like a blade, Benicio, now staring forward at the path ahead, asked, "What do you think you'd be doing if I weren't here? Or is that something you'd rather not ponder?"

The blonde haired girl listened to what her friend said, a small smile on her face as he explained what he would be doing if she was gone. As she walked, Aimee kicked up a rock that had come from a wall that had crumbled from the blast. When Ben asked her the question she was dreading to be asked, she seemed hesitant at first, looking into the eyes of the dark haired boy. "I would be dead." That was that, she turned and continued walking at a fast pace, over the bodies and fallen debre on the ground. Aimee was very sensitive about what would have happened because she knows good and well that her body would be among those of the streets or in the mass grave not 5 blocks from them.

The rocks that were strewn about the area felt like dull needles on the soles Benicio's feet. His dark shoes had been worn down and at this point, he may as well had been walking with not shoes on at all. He'd been barreling through the pain for what seemed to be months now. The dark haired boy could only hope that the grocery store was a multipurpose one that sold more than just food items. Averting his attention back to Aimee who answered his question in an unmistakeably morose tone, Ben couldn't help but place himself closer to her as they traversed the rugged path. "At least you're honest about it...heavily and brutally honest." Constantly reminding him of their condition were the number of dead bodies Aimee seemed to inadvertently keep her attention on. They smelled and their faces, some of which had been rotted off, seemed to denote a strong sense of fear that was etched into them moments before they died. "Listen. As long as we stick close, you won't have to worry about dying alright? We're the only two left in this town for a reason. That reason isn't weakness. That I can assure you my dear."

Aimee looked at Ben, her bright eyes seemed to show brighter as she smiled. "You are right. We are the arrow strongest. Not to mention without each other we wouldn't have been able to make it as far as we have today." She stepped over another body, not seeming to notice it at all this time. Her gaze left her friend and went to the front of the store, seeing the lights were on inside. "Look, the lights are on!" Aimee ran to the store, stopping outside a broken window. She stepped through and walked a little more before stopping again, the smile becoming bigger across her face. "You need anything? I think I'm gonna get new clothes." Her mind started to focus on the more on the fact that she hasn't had new clothes in a long while.

The duo had finally arrived at their providence...their headquarters of rations that could be split effortlessly among them. As Aimee had pointed out, the lights were operational meaning that the most perishables may not yet have perished. This is if they were lucky enough. Up until this point, fortune seemed to shine a bright light upon the two. The man of nature proceed through the front doors. They still had some power left in them, but they struggled to open as they flickered and spat sparks in automatized effort. "Clothes eh?" asked Ben after Aimee made off towards the aforementioned section. "Shoes and I'll be fine. If you want, you can pick out clothes for me while I search around to see just what I can find." Benicio's suggestion was punctuated with a brief nod and a light smile. He was doing well to contain his joy. If he lacked the self-control he exhibited at this moment, he may have senselessly ransacked the store left leaving only a cackle and few broken bottles behind.

The blonde haired girl wandered over to the clothes, slowly going through them as she made her choices carefully. She pulled out denim shorts that ended at the top part of her thigh, which was fine considering how much movement she needed. Her shirt was a cute graphic shirt that had swirls on the front, something she found very comforting even though it was only a piece of clothing. She changed in the dressing room and came out, holding the clothes for Ben. "Here. A t-shirt so you can move freely and jeans that are hopefully long enough for your size. You're growing taller." Aimee smiled brightly, knowing that Ben hadn't thought of the growing up part of his life in such a long time. She gave him the clothes and helped in the search for food.

Benicio had found just what his mind and stomach were set on for the evening. His list essentially consisted of junk food and other sugary items that would rot out the teeth of any young child. Chips and soda were the two obvious items. Their amount wasn't as dominating as the gummi like candies that he'd picked out. Blueberry flavored...strawberry flavored...the taste of them combined as he anticipated would be like a cascade of flavors the likes of which he hadn't had before. In reality, they were simply just gummi sharks and pink and white drops. Returning to Aimee, the young raven haired boy heard a noise that didn't register with him until it echoed closer. It was the sound of a can falling, then rolling. It didn't draw a reaction from him as it was simple can falling. Gravity could do that from time to time.

"Oh. Thanks Aimee. I couldn't have made a better selection." The attire was just as Benicio liked it. Plain and simple. A white shirt which fitted him loosely as Aimee had assured. The jeans were dark and the length was perfect. From looking, he could see that the legs stretched beneath his heels. Taking the clothes over his arm, he nodded to the aisles and began to walk on. "C'mon. It's time to search for dinner. Anything in particular you want tonight?"

Aimee watched as Ben put on his clothes, a small smile came across her pale face as she looked him up and down. "Doesn't look bad at all." Her eyes gleamed as she looked up to Ben's face, the comment about dinner immediately made her stomach growl in a harsh, unladylike tone. The blonde girl gripped her stomach fast, a small sheepish smile was flashed at Ben as she looked away. "Um... Let me see." She let go of her stomach and began to walk towards the candy section until she stopped, seeing what she wanted. She pulled off of the shelf several bags of blue tape candy that was known for being extremely sour, just how Aimee liked it. "This will do fine." She smiled happily and looked at Ben, walking over to him and a long the way, grabbing several sodas and other drinks, a long with more food. "Now where should we dine at?"

Ben acknowledged that at some point or another, he'd need to take a nice long shower to cleanse himself of the dirt and sweat that had built up from him running around the rather expansive suburban town. Until then, he'd be wearing new clothes and dressing himself in front of his life long friend. "You really think so? I can't wait to break these pants in. You know I'm not a big fan of cre--" His next thought which he'd already set aside to address his need for socks and shoes were stifled by Aimee's tummy rumbling. His eyes simply halved and with a grin expressing his slight surprise, he looked upon the girl acceptance. "Yeah, let's see what they've got for us."

The young man had done his shopping so now it was Aimee's turn. When the girl had taken down a few bags of candy, his grin simply grew into a smile. They were friends for a reason and this was just one of them. "Heh, if I knew you were going to get the same teeth rotting, adolescent junk I was getting, I'd have grabbed more for you." When she walked passed, Ben took note of her figure. Maybe it was eating just sugar that kept her frame so small and slender. Maybe it was sugar that made her such a sweet person to begin with. "Where should we dine at? Hmmm....if this place works, maybe there's a restaurant nearby? We can sit down and eat there."

The small girl seemed to brighten at the thought of a restaurant and dining there, the small things that she was never a loud to do as a little kid. Aimee walked out of the store, looking around as she carried her pile of sweets and drinks. "The is an Italian restaurant down the street. If the electricity is off, we can have a candle light dinner." She looked back at Ben, her smile came back almost ten times over. Aimee began to walk towards the restaurant, her blonde hair swishing back in forth as she stepped over debris. "Our last dinner in hell. Why not make it romantic." The blonde haired girl giggled for the first time in a very long while, her stare went from the ground to her friend.

Ben's thin pale lips curved forming a curt grin moments after Aimee mentioned that not to far off was an Italian restaurant. If this was the case, then maybe he'd cook something real to go with the snacks, pastries and junk food they'd compiled back at the rundown grocery store. Teeth began to break through his smile as his anticipation grew. "Yeah, why not?" said Benicio after the blonde's words had settled within him. Heaven or Hell, the man of nature only hoped that his friend, this metallurgist girl was by his side. "Hell...you know if we can find people, we can bring them back here. Maybe even start our own little community on this side of America. Banks, stores, arcades and schools. What would---what will you call this town Aimee when we come back with people to fill it?"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 12, 2012 2:55 am

Aimee seemed to almost ignore his question, her eyes now back on the road as she sat in thought. Her eyes seem to grow dim as the thought of coming back here didn't ever cross her mind. "I really hate to burst your bubble, Ben, but I highly doubt I ever want to come back here. I mean," The girl stops, looking at her friend, "If you have me... And we are living in a nice place... Why come back here? Where the memories of our horrible pasts could haunt us and the thought that we could have died would always be in the back of our heads. I wouldn't be happy coming back here, Ben." Her eyes that were filled with sorrow turned to face the restaurant as it was only several yards away. Aimee walked up to the door and opened it, as seeming the door was almost fully metal. She walked inside and laid everything she had in a booth that was near a very large painting of the hills in Sicily. "I would love to go there some day..." Her eyes sparked as she stared at the painting, not even realizing that she was standing in almost complete darkness.

"Oh?" replied Benicio to the blonde's unexpected answer. Aimee's response caught the young man by surprise as he thought that maybe she's want to reform this area. She did have a point though. This town did hold some the worst memories that could be etched into the young minds and the severity of the things they saw rendered those memories incapable of being erased. Giving the girl his attention once more, Ben decided to respond this time in full. "Heh, alright then. We never have to return to this place once we escape it...hell, after we get out of here, the men in suits might just burn this place to the ground to get rid of the 'evidence'." Soon after the silence set in, the entered the restaurant. Luckily for the duo, the place was still functional. The lights were at least. Maybe the heating and the kitchens were as well. "Like you said, our last night in Hell may turn out to be better than expecte---oh, is that what you've got your eyes on?" Benicio turned from the bar area and found Aimee ogling a picture. After she spoke, he nodded and took to an open booth before laying down the groceries he'd compiled alongside her. "Maybe one day we can hijack a plane? If we reach civilization, getting there will be much easier and far more legal. If that's where you want to go, then we'll get there alright?"
