Dawn Treader takes after his mother -- but he's a lot more laid back, preferring to try to trap or coax prey out instead of going on the attack.

Black Pearl is an expert fish-catcher, and tends to bring the family presents of fish when it's especially hot.

Ever-Distant
[Bribe]

Elegant, polite, and soft-spoken. Ever-Distant is always searching for something, although he can never quite say what; yearning pulls at his chest and legs, carrying him through the Swamp in search of something he will only know when he finds it. Ever-Distant always seems regretful and sad, carrying the weight of some old sadness.

Fading Light is responsible for tucking the flowers into Ever-Distant's hair, though he himself is usually quite shy.

Notes: Ever-Distant is based on the Lady of the Lake, hence the Excalibur-inspired shoulder scale.

Truth
[Moth-Based Kin Event]

Truth is honest. Completely and unabashedly honest. If he doesn't like someone's colors and patterns, he will say so; if he thinks they're brave, he will say that, too. He seems to take a quiet, perverse joy in forcing other kimeti to confront truths about themselves, but he becomes very sullen when they do the same to him.

Bittersweet is sly, cunning, and always seems to be sneaking about. It has a tendency to sit near Truth and smirk at the kimeti nearby, cleaning a paw and looking smugly confident in its own superiority.

Twisted is prone to following other Kin around, at least to a certain point -- whenever it gets too far from Truth, it will retreat to his side.

Whispering Rock
[Breeding]

Whispering Rock claims to hear the voice of the Swamp -- and of everything else besides. She can hear the little voices whispering, whispering, whispering, and she can feel their tiny fingers and their little breaths. This makes her seem odd, if not outright crazy, but harmless. She can sometimes be disdainful, even snotty, to kimeti who call her mad.

Sun's Breath
[Rejam Giveaway]

Sun's Breath is warm-hearted, friendly, and flirty -- but she's also incredibly lazy and proud. Most days, she'll lounge around in sunny and warm places, stretching out on moss and arranging herself so the sun hits her coat just right.

Rosewater dotes on its mistress, fetching her food, water, and leaves for shade. Between trips, it likes to lounge near her, basking in sunlight and grooming its own fur.

Soft Rain
[Breeding]

Soft Rain is gentle, thoughtful, and artistic, and loves nothing more than the sound of the rain on the leaves. He likes to create paintings on tree bark, using berry juices and bug paste, and leave them out in the rain, so the colors streak and run together, mixing into something strange and beautiful.

Fatal Flaw
[Pre-Release Kiokote]

Fatal Flaw's parents encouraged her to explore widely, and her mother whispered to her that she must one day make something of herself. She's ambitious, driven, and strong and fast, but she's also arrogant, impulsive, and sarcastic. She fairly burns with the desire to make something of herself, to charge ahead into unknown lands and discover what lies within. Her drive, however, often leads her to take risks, and she often forgets to take care of herself, or respect her own limits, in her haste to plow ahead.

Given time, and more restraint, she could become a great leader. She's charismatic through sheer force of personality and willpower, and she has foresight enough to envision a future where the kiokote have spread far beyond their home and into the vast lands beyond, learning to adapt to different environments and lifestyles, and reaping the benefits of knowledge gained by the first forays into those lands -- a future led by her, or one greater than her.

When she was old enough, one day she wandered farther afield than she ever had before, and simply didn't go back, striking onwards towards the plains in search of the discoveries that await her.

Notes: Fatal Flaw is one of the first wave of Kiokote, and so holds a very special place in my heart. I named her after, and roughly based her personality around, Kryptonite and the concepts of hubris and hamartia.

Sunflash
[Speed FS]

Sunflash is vain, greedy, and flighty -- a collector of shiny trinkets, like bits of sea glass and bright feathers, for no reason other than that he thinks they're pretty. He's just as shallow when it comes to relationships, preferring flings to long-term relationships and balking at the idea of commitment. He is also quick-thinking and intelligent, and will readily barter with other kimeti.

Whispers of a Storm
[RL semi]

Whispers is reticent, cynical, and suspicious -- a distant loner -- but alert, focused, and determined. He is relentlessly focused on self-improvement, driven constantly by the desire to be stronger, faster, and smarter.

Compared to other Kimeti, he's on the small side, something that he strongly resents. He's compensated by pushing himself to be just as good a hunter and fighter as bigger kin, relying on his wits and agility to outsmart and outmaneuver prey and opponents. He is also a surprisingly skilled racer, with fast reflexes and excellent balance.

[Insight] At first blush, they would seem to be unlikely friends -- Insight is dorky and flighty, and Whispers is too serious for his own good -- but their differences even out. It helps that Whispers can see right through Insight's obfuscating stupidity.

[Shattered Sky] He and Sky complement each other well, though neither of them are particularly talkative or social; they often spend time in silent companionship, just enjoying each other's company, though they tend to roughhouse together with Insight.

Strikes Twice is a guard dog -- deeply suspicious of strangers, prone to barking warnings or biting Kin who get too close.

Notes: Whispers is based on an original character who is near and dear to my heart, a short, cranky soldier who found himself leading a team in a world where modern society was forever changed by the supernatural apocalypse.

Wisplight

Highly intelligent, curious, calm, and perhaps a little stuck-up, Wisp speaks in a crisp monotone and acts purposefully. She doesn't waste a breath or a twitch of her tail, calculating every movement -- a marvel of efficiency -- but she has a secret morbid side. She's obsessed with finding out what happens after death, and will often study corpses with her usual clinical calm.

Haunting Sigh is named after the sounds that Wisplight heard when they met -- the sound of the wind rushing through the bare branches of dead trees.

Riddle is so named for her tendency to give questioning little trills while other Kin are speaking, as if she were asking a question.

Notes: The character Wisplight is based on is from the same universe as Whispers', a ghost who possessed a computer, and became something more like an AI in the process.

Cryptic

Cryptic is sharp-witted and intelligent, but sardonic and sarcastic to the point of nastiness, with a penchant for mocking and taunting other kimeti. Cryptic is obsessed with riddles, and has quite a collection of them.

Parted Lips likes to perch on Cryptic's back, peering with a little half-smile at anything and anyone she meets.


Notes: The character Cryptic is based on is a gunner who had both of her arms amputated, then replaced with advanced prosthetics. The constant pain led to her perpetually sharp temper and bad mood. Parted Lips is based on one of her favorite literary characters, the Cheshire Cat.

Lost Time

Lost Time is rather monotone and mechanical. He tends to closely follow a set routine, with few, if any, deviations. He's incredibly loyal, polite, and surprisingly clever, but he's also rather dull, stubborn, and inflexible.

His songbird, Three, has a habit of doing everything in threes -- three chirps, three raps of her beak on Lost Time's horn, three flicks of her tail.

Notes: Lost Time is based on a man who was slowly being turned into a clockwork cyborg by means of a supernatural virus, but retained his sentience and free will. His designation was 203, or Three for short, hence his songbird's name and habits.

Insight

Insight is a ditz -- airheaded, flighty, easily flattered, and prone to spacing out entirely. At the same time, he's humorous, and charming in an easy, laid-back way. There's more to him than he lets on; his absent-minded smile hides a sharp, cunning mind, and he is as strong and fast as the two hunters he runs with.

[Whispers of a Storm] He and Whispers are partners in crime, and have been for many years. They run together, get into trouble together, fight together, and fight together.

[Shattered Sky] Insight thinks of Sky like a sister, and often manages to coax her into roughhousing with him and Whispers.

Lightheaded is flighty, vain, and a perfectionist, prone to spending hours tucking all its feathers into just the right spot.

Notes: Insight is based on a Russian sniper, a close friend of the character Whispers was based on.

Inertia

Inertia is a jerk with a heart of gold -- stubborn, impulsive, sarcastic, and prone to playing practical jokes for fun. He's an adrenaline junkie who likes to run at top speed through the swamp, weaving between of the roots and rocks, and he's going to the plains because he hears that there's room up there for him to run, and run, and run. At times, he can show surprising compassion for others -- and his jokes, although sometimes not very nice, are never cruel.

Leap First is his mongoose, as veteran a prankster as Inertia himself, and it likes to dump leaves of water on other kimeti's heads, or stomp on berries and leap on other kimeti, leaving streaks of color behind.

Victory Cry is generally silent. It likes to perch in the curve of Inertia's horn, and watches silently as he interacts with others. But when he successfully pulls off a prank, completes a hunt, or wins a fight, Cry voices a triumphant song, hence its name.

Notes: Inertia is based on a Chinese man who had both legs amputated, and replaced with mechanical prosthetics that allowed him to run much faster than the average human. He has a similar penchant for playing tricks and running his mouth when he shouldn't.
