Trapdoor...? Eva's gaze desperately swept over the floor, her eyes widening as she focused on a discolored square on the ground behind the cerberus. Was that it?
"This way!" Avoiding the jaws of the giant creature, she dived behind it, desperately feeling for a handle as she pat at the trap door. Her expression visibly brightened as she fingers curled around something, and she gave a sharp yank upwards, the door flying open.
She paused for a moment to ensure that Deryk and Jude were right beside her before leaping down.

Thankfully, Eva managed to find it. Deryk quickly jumped into it, taking a few moments to catch his breath once they were through. "Is e-everyone alright?" he asked while looking towards them. As he did this, he soon noticed that they were in a room with giant chess pieces. "... Wizard's chess..."If he recalled correctly.. this version of chess was a lot more violent than normal chess. "..Anyone here good at this game?" he asked while taking the place of one of the pieces. He had a bad feeling about this. Why were they even going through this? Did they want the philosopher's stone? No. Not really. This was just for investigations! HP: 40 Roll: 1

Jude had followed the others as soon as possible. As he took his place and heard Deryk's question he just rolled his shoulders into a shrug, "Not really that great at it, no," he said simply. "Regular chess anyways. I don't remember if ... this....version is different." He was already making a move.
Unfortunately it was right in the way of large pieces of flying debris as a piece smashed into another nearby.
"s**t." He winced. HP: 32 Rolls: 1

This just got better and better. Grimacing at Deryk's question, the girl shook her head as she took her place on the chessboard, having the decency to look embarrassed as she quietly admitted, "I don't even know how to play normal chess. In hindsight...I probably should have learned."
Especially if she ever found herself in a situation like this again. She flinched in shock when one of the opposing chess pieces moved forward, swinging a blade out at a pawn that had been close to her and shattering it to pieces. She threw up her arms to protect herself as a piece of debris came flying her way.

Deryk paled a bit at that response. Eva wouldn't be able to help, so he and Jude were going to need to pool together what they knew. Fidgeting, he looked over on the board, trying to think. Man, if only they had access to their weapons right now. This would be a lot easier to deal with. "Uh... J-Jude. Move over to that space..? Yes..?"He hoped this was a good move. HP: 40 Roll 2:

Jude glanced at Deryk and nodded a bit as he moved toward the spot directed toward. The only thing that happened was he got hit with more debris as another set of nearby pieces had a nice little clash. This hurt pretty badly but it was better than dying.
"Uhh. Eva. Try going there..." He suggested, giving his input and hoping it didn't get Eva killed in the process. Either way he was pointing at least somewhere specific, with a little bit of confidence. HP: 26 Rolls: 2

Eva nodded obediently as Jude directed her, mutely moving to a new square. Her whole body tensed when one of the pieces moved towards her, lifting its weapon...but then she let out a sigh of relief when it promptly turned and destroyed the piece that right next to her. The impact caused a number of broken chess pieces to be pelted right at her, but frankly, that was nothing compared to actually being struck down by one of those weapons.
"I...I think we're almost across," She murmured, fingers tightening around her wand, "Be careful, okay?"

Yes, they were almost there. Just a few more moves, and they'd be free to head on to the other side. Looking around, Deryk swallowed hard before making his move. It was a good one. Letting out a sigh of relief, he turned towards his teammates. "Sh-should be able to make it across now!"HP: 40 Roll: 3

He was actually kind of hopeful. Jude moved to step forward, but thought better of the move, unfortunately he stumbled right onto the square he was trying to avoid and suddenly ...
Jude became a nice bloody smear on the ground as a piece just ... ran over him after striking him down. He didn't even get a chance to yell out in pain and surprise.

And as Deryk said, things were really starting to look up. As Eva moved forward, she realized that they were only a step away from winning. Just one step--
"--Jude!"
She watched in horror as one of the pieces ran him over, and even if he was, in reality, alright in real world, that had been horrific to watch, nevermind experience, she was sure. Taking a shaky breath, she forced herself to take another step forward.
Checkmate.
"C...come on, Deryk."

There was a weird squish behind him as he crossed to the other side. Turning around, Deryk paled as he saw a red stain on the ground. Jude was no where to be seen.
"J-Jude...? Jude..?" he whimpered, shaking while being frozen in place. N-no.. Maybe he just... ran off somewhere. The red smear.. couldn't be..
Whimpering again, he nodded to Eva and moved on, coming across what appeared to be the final room. Flames blockaded both the exit and the entrance. And before them was a table with a few vials. There was also a piece of paper.
"O-g-g-great.. s-s-some of these... poison..y-yes.." he stammered out, being completely shaken from what had happened thus far. Jude can't be dead. Jude can't be dead.
He couldn't think clearly with the riddle and just grabbed one vial at random before downing it. Things seemed fine for a moment, but then he felt as if his insides were lit ablaze. Crying out in pain, he doubled over, vomiting blood all over the floor. Falling to the ground, he began to writhe in complete agony until he just went completely still.

Robert, Jude--were they next? Eva bit her bottom lip as she moved to the next area with Deryk, her gaze immediately zoning in on the vials as they got close. Oh geez, what were these? She leaned forward the read the riddle, knitting her brows in worry. Were some of these poisoned? It seemed as if Deryk had come to the same conclusion as well. Well then, in that case, it was of the utmost importance that they be carefu--
"--! Wait, Deryk! Don't!"
The girl's head immediately snapped up when the man grabbed one of the vials at random, lifting it to his lips. For a moment, everything seemed fine...and then he started to vomit, staining the floor with crimson. Stunning, Eva stood staring for a good few seconds before rushing over, reaching out to grab him but losing him as he thumped onto the ground and began to writhe.
"Deryk! Deryk! God damni--!"
Just as she was about to throw herself at the vials in hopes of finding some kind of cure, the man went still.
Squeezing her eyes shut, Eva took deep breaths through her mouth, trying to calm herself down despite the fact there was nothing to be calm about. Robert had gotten eaten, Jude had gotten run over by one of the chess pieces, and Deryk had been poisoned. She had lost all three of her friends on this stupid portal mission, but...
But...they were okay, right? In reality? This was all just...a dream of sorts?
This thought was what kept the girl going as she read the riddle one more time, eying the vial that Deryk had taken. Even...so she was to take an odd one. With shaking hands, she reached out to take the fifth vial, eying it warily before pressing the opening to her lips and tipping her head back.
Nothing. She was safe.
She breathed a shuddering sigh of relief before turning to leave to the next room, pausing to slide Deryk's eyes shut for him and to throw her robe over his body before moving on. Was this the exit? As she moved through the door, her hopes were dashed when she realized that there wasn't another door in sight to indicate that this was the way out. However, just as she turned around to go back, she suddenly heard a mumble, saw a flash of green from the corner of her eye...
And then she died and woke up.
