[MENTORING] Untangling a Knot [CRICKET + APPRENTICES]

The FEAR was knotted, and unpleasantly, too. How to gently pull it apart... hm. Malodore shifted its own FEAR into its hands now, the better to manipulate it with, though it brought its tail up and carefully curled it next to the patient to keep it still, being sure to keep the blade far away from the scent.

Hmm.... an experimental prod resulted in what seemed like a worse tangle. Hurriedly, it backed away, allowing the FEAR to return to its prior state. ... Had the FEAR relaxed a little in doing so? Hmm.

It tried again, this time working with its thumbs and forefinger; it felt the tension in the FEAR, an odd sensation. And then a poke, and a push like so, and a good portion of the knot fell away, hanging limply for an instant before gaining tension - proper, healthy tension - and straightening. Did the scent look a little happier?

It was about halfway there, it felt, as it continued to work at the knot. It was strange work, and both like and unlike that of undoing the string. Much, much finer, like undoing knots of the smallest suture twine...

The creature relaxed a little bit more against Malodore's tail, and it smiled inwardly to feel its soft warmth. It was reminded of Luce, a bit...

A bit more of the knot unraveled. It seemed that there was still more, however; that each layer of knotting hid another layer underneath.

Hmm. It leaned in, hunching a bit so as not to threaten the scent below and cause it to panic. A magnifying headpiece might be a good idea for such fine work...

When one prod caused a snarl to start to form, Malodore hurriedly shifted the FEAR in the opposite direction - and, just like that, the knot unraveled completely. The scent sighed, sending a pleasant... well, scent into the air as it did so. Malodore gently re-focused its FEAR into its thumbs and stroked the scent's FEAR manifestation gently, smoothing it out entirely before releasing it and checking the limb itself. Phew...

Yin listened, he did, but there was a niggling feeling in the back of his mind like he had missed something somewhere, like how to sew Fear. It just meant that he needed to catch up, and even though he dreaded the idea he knew that he was going to find Alexander after the lesson and ask the zomboil to help him locate books on Fear healing. Yin was going to read. On his own. Not specifically for class. It was going to happen.

He forgot his own strength, trying to visualize the Fear and putting too much force into it. The scent whined twisted to n** at him, causing him to cringe back. Okay so, not the best start.

Gently he stretched out his hand toward the scent's leg, earning another n** in response."I am sorry," he murmured to the creature. "I shall try not to hurt you again."

As the scent bit at him again he was barely able to pull his fingers away in time. Quite frankly how badly this was going for him was embarrassing, but he refused to give up.

It was clear that the creature did not trust him, and his own nerves were probably not helping things. He tried to speak to it soothingly but it was made rather obvious that it wanted nothing to do with him.

He tried to be a bit more forceful, attempting a different approach. The whine low in its throat made him jerking back as if he was the one injured.

After far too long of inexcusable slowness Yin retracted his claws into more obnoxious humanoid hands. It was weird, changing his range of movement and reach, but the scent simply sniffed at his hand and laid back, finally content to let him work.

Without his claws he was not sure how well things would unravel, but he was anxious to get started now that he had already wasted so much time. His fingers were clumsy and he barely loosened the knot of pain for the poor thing. Or he tightened it, he really was not sure.

He moved, pulling at a different area, feeling the Fear loosen up under his fingers and grinning slightly. Finally, they were getting someone.

Now that he had gotten started on the knot it seemed to be easier. The Fear seemed to want to work for him as he pulled at it, feeling it unravel farther, the scent seeming to relax ever so slightly.
