but then again, there's also a tradition in China (Dun Ng Cheet) where you throw the leaf wrapped sticky rice (chiung... or whatever they're called) in the river or something...

the history tradition was that there was a government official who commited suicide because his emperor no longer trusted him. He was a good official, but he was framed by bad people... when he commited suicide by throwing himself in the river, the citizens were so devistated by it. They worry that the fishes or whatever in the river will eat his body, so they threw the rice in the river in hope that the fish will eat it instead of eat his body or something... then, it became a tradition each year in order to remember him...

people no longer throw them in the river, they just eat it now...

hum, I didn't know about this day either... I thought it was July 7 (in the lunar calendar)...

July 7: I thought was the day because it has that story of the couple who only got to meet once a year on that day only... eek

Both Jan 15 and July 7 in lunar calendars are Chinese Valentine's Days 3nodding if you want the story behind i can tell you wink

There's stories?

*brings marshmellows, starts a fire and sits down*

Please by all means, tell us... or me. razz

I think it was the story that turned into a chinese show.
The legend of love?
But in the tv show.
They changed it.

What happened was this celestial maiden/goddess/Sen nu. Who was the daugher of the emporer and emporess of heaven. She fell in love with a mortal. I think they got marryed and had a son. Thought she had to return to heaven. She isn't allowed to return to earth. So during that one day. They get to see each other. I think she is crying.
