Adrian’s smile grew a little steadier at Mariska’s excitement. When she said that Victor had a busy schedule, he already had an apology forming in his lips, but he was stopped by the agreement to do it tomorrow. Looking to the emperor, he found himself being looked at and he blushed and let his eyes drop to the glass in front of him. “Thank you….I look forward to it very much.” He said softly.

Looking back up when he heard his name, he listened to Victor nodding slightly. So he would be learning about the wedding then. He was relieved that he would finally find out a little more about the ceremony he’d be taking part in, but it also scared him to death. It just made all of this more real. A part of him was still hoping he’d wake up and be back in his bed at the castle, and this would all be just a very strange dream

Looking back to Mariska, his alarm flashed across his face at her words. “Robes?!” he asked, managing to restrain himself so only the barest hint of worry bled into his voice. Royal vampire never wore anything outside of the customary dress, it was unheard of. Looking over Victor’s current clothes, he bit his lip. He had hoped he’d just be able to wear one of his more appropriate outfits. He would feel naked in those robes.

His moment of panic only lasted a moment as his eldest brother cleared his throat. “Adrian would be happy to wear the robes of your land. It is just a very rare occasion that our bloodline strays into other fashion.” He said, his voice reigning Adrian back in, who just focused on the remnant of his glass of blood instead, face going carefully blank again.

“Ah…I see.” Victor stated out-loud, more to himself than to anyone else seated at the table. Now that he thought about it, there really was no need for Adrian to wear the robes of his people. This marriage would finalize the peace treaty between both their kinds, so it was only natural for them to both wear the traditional attire for the ceremony. “In that case…” He looked over to the young vampire. “Prince Adrian, I would like you to pick whatever you deem appropriate to wear for the ceremony.”

“And please forgive my assumption.” Mariska added with a nervous smile. “I do tend to get overexcited sometimes. But I will be more than happy to help you with anything you need.”

Victor stood from his seat with ease. “Now, if you will excuse me. There is a lot of work that demands to be finished. I will most likely be kept busy until later this evening.” Looking down at Adrian, he gave the boy a soft smirk. “I will see you at dinner. Have a pleasant day, Prince Adrian.”
With that said, the emperor left the dining hall, and made his way to his study. There was so much that needed to be done before the wedding to be held the day after tomorrow. Although it wasn’t to be a large affair, with only a small handful of people attending, it was highly important that it was done correctly.

Soon after Victor left, Mariska smiled brightly at Adrian, clasping her hands together once again.
“Okay then…if you’re finished with your breakfast, how about we get started, hmm?” She glanced over at Adrian’s brothers, and gave them similar smiles, her white canines showing from behind her lips. “Will you be joining us today?”

Adrian looked to Victor when he spoke, half expecting him to tell him he had to wear the robes, no matter his discomfort, or to chastise him for being so concerned, but when the emperor told him to wear what he felt right, he felt tension run out of him and he offered a small smile to his words. To know that this was his choice, it made things more bearable. It had been the first thing he’d been allowed to choose in this whole process. “Thank you.” He said softly.

Looking back to Mariska, he shook his head. “There is no need to apologize. I’m sure there are many things I have not been informed of yet.” He said gently, feeling more at ease with Mariska than he had with any other noble in a long time. She was much more approachable than he thought a lycan would be. Attention moving back to Victor, he bowed his head to Victor at his acknowledgement. “I look forward to it.” He replied, not really knowing what else to say. But it was the truth. Being around Victor and Mariska, they seemed to be able to deflect and calm his family so they didn’t mistreat Adrian.

Giving Mariska a nervous smile when she spoke again, he nodded. “The sooner, the better I would assume.” He said softly. He was concerned that only two days wouldn’t be enough for him to learn and memorize what he needed to, so starting as soon as possible was probably the best thing. He bit his lip when Mariska invited his brothers though. With them around, he had to be even better. The crown prince nodded without thought. “I believe we will. We are curious as to what Adrian will be doing.” He said with a small smirk. Adrian had to fight to hide his anxiety. Now he had to do everything perfectly t avoid their criticism and anger.

“Alright then…please follow me.” Mariska stated, although she was quick to notice Adrian’s nervousness. She could tell the boy was uneasy, especially around his family. She hated seeing him so anxious. That was when an idea popped into her head, revolving around a truth she would have to reveal to Adrian’s brothers later on anyhow. She let the vampires down the furthest hall, and into a rather large library, shutting the doors behind them once they were all inside.

“Now before we begin…” She continued on, looking to the older brothers as Mariska folded one arm behind her back, and gestured with the other, taking on the role of princess quite seriously. “There will be certain aspects of these sessions which require the upmost privacy. Meaning I will have to work with Adrian alone with no interference. I’m sure you understand that we have particular customs involving the ceremony that must be kept undisclosed. However, I will save those teachings till last, and you will all be free to join us until then.”

Mariska gave them a pleasant smile. It wasn’t a lie of any sort. There were crucial points of the ceremony that she would have to discuss with Adrian, and that was only because he was the groom to be. Reaching over, she placed a hand on the young vampire’s shoulder, and let him over to a large sitting area, motioning for him to take a seat. Once everyone was settled, she made her way over to another table that held many scattered books, and snatched one off its top. Opening to the first page, she smiled down at Adrian, before placing the leather bound book in his hands.

“Now then…let’s get started shall well?”

Adrian followed right behind Mariska, doing his best not to lower his eyes or appear to nervous, remembering Victor’s words last night. He had to try and be stronger so Victor wouldn’t be disappointed in him or become angry with the situation. His brothers followed right as his heels, though the crowned prince walked right beside him, clearly not willing to lessen his position in comparison to Adrian.

Entering the library, the other princes went ahead and moved towards various seats, while Adrian waited for Mariska’s invitation, though he was also taking in the books. He would have to remember how to get here, especially if there were histories here. He was sure that the books at home had very different accounts than these did. Pausing at her words, he didn’t know if he should be more concerned about that, or thankful. Marcus tensed though, frowning at the news and was about to protest when Jacob elbowed him and shook his head slightly. They weren’t too happy about that news, but they were here as observers and had no weight to throw around in these matters.

Adrian slowly sat, watching Mariska and delicately taking the book when it was handed over. Looking over the book, he bit his lip this would be odd. There were some parts of the ceremony similar for their peoples, but there were some crucial things different. “Um….my Lady……may I ask how many people you are expecting to be in attendance?” he asked softly, fidgeting with the book ever so slightly.

“I do apologize for any inconvenience it may cause.” The female lycan stated sincerely to Adrian’s brothers, wanting to avoid any trouble so early on. “And I assure you that you will be properly looked after. I’ve arranged for the head caretaker to give you a tour of our private art gallery, and he will meet to any and all your needs.”

When Adrian spoke up to ask about the attendance she could not help but think he was absolutely adorable. Poor boy…she could tell he was nervous about it all. Hopefully she would be able to help him out in that department.

“It will be a relevantly small affair, Prince Adrian.” Mariska replied with a sincere smile. “Aside from my brother, and those of us in this room, there will only be one other person…Lady Bettina. She is our elder, and will be performing the bonding ceremony for you and Victor.”

Mariska couldn’t help but feel slightly sympathetic towards the young vampire. At least he wouldn’t have to deal with such a large extravagant wedding. That, most likely, would’ve made the boy more nervous.

“She really is the wisest person I’ve ever met. Well, aside from Victor that is. I think he got that from her.” She giggled slightly, before realizing that she left a major part out. “Oh…I almost forgot to say. Technically she’s our great great great great grandmother on our father’s side.”

Adrian listened intently to Mariska explain who would be there. Hearing that there were so few, a small weight was lifted from him and his shoulders relaxed slightly. He’d expected this to be some large, extravagant affair, but then again he should’ve known better. He was certain there were many in the empire that hated the fact that their beloved emperor was marrying a vampire prince. If there had been many people, there was a large chance for something bad to happen.

Smiling slightly at the description of the woman, his eyes widened when he heard her relation. “Truly?” he asked. Shaking his head, he gave a small smile. ‘She must be the same age as our father then…..if not older. That is truly amazing.” He said gently. “And with that much experience, I have no doubt in her wisdom.” Even Adrian’s brothers were rather stunned by the news of this Bettina. The king was the oldest being they’d heard of, to thing there was another to rival his age was almost revolutionary in thought.

Looking down at the book again, Adrian skimmed a page or two quickly. “Is all of this still done?” he asked, unsure which parts of the ceremony still existed and which had become obsolete through the years.

“Of course. The bonding ceremony had gone unchanged since the beginning.” She replied with a curt nod of her head. “Since it’s a very simple ceremony there really was no need to alter it, even after all these years.”

She gave a gentle pat on the shoulder, an attempt to reassure the boy he would have nothing to worry about.

“Now…let us begin.”

Victor ran a hand through his long black hair, very tired after an entire day of preparation for the wedding soon to come. To say he was tired would be a grave understatement. He was making his way down to the dining hall, his stomach practically begging to be filled. Throughout the day he found himself wondering how Adrian’s lessons were going? He knew his sister was more than capable of handling the task, but he hoped that it wasn’t too overwhelming for the young prince. As he walked through the enormous doors, Victor was quick to notice everyone already seated at the long table. Although he kept his stoic expression, he was pleased to see that Adrian a bit more relaxed than before.

“Good evening. Please excuse my tardiness. It seems the preparations kept me busy longer than I had initially hoped.” Victor stated, taking his seat, before the waiters started serving everyone at the table. He looked over to Adrian, the usual hardness in his eyes softening a bit. “How was your day, Prince Adrian? Your lessons went well I hope?”

Adrian was a good student for Mariska, picking things up relatively quickly and even asking a few questions about their history and other traditions, always listening intently to her. He was also much more understanding than his brothers, all of whom were clearly either displeased or amused by various things, not viewing it as serious or seeing it as less than the traditions of their kingdom. Of course they never said anything, but the judgment was rolling off of them the whole time. Of course the whole situation improved when they were asked to leave. Adrian relaxed much more, to the point that he was trying to at least make some effort to connect with Mariska.

When they reached dinner, he had continued to speak with her softly, asking about various things in the castle and old beliefs. He wanted to try and learn as much as he could as soon as possible so he wouldn’t insult anyone or cause trouble. For the most part his brothers ignored them, having grown tired of listening to such conversations through the day.

Looking up quickly when Victor came into the room, he thought of standing from his seat, but when Mariska didn’t, he just sat still. Bowing his head slightly in greeting to Victor, he gave a small smile when the Emperor’s attention was turned towards him. “It was all rather pleasant your majesty. Mariska makes for a wonderful teacher.” He said slowly. “I just hope I can remember everything that I’m being taught. It is a lot to take in over such a short period of time.” He added, still a little uncertain in front of Victor.

“Adrian has made quite the remarkable student. I’m certain he will be more than ready for the ceremony…with extra time to spare.” Mariska interjected with a bright smile.

“I see.” Victor replied, before taking a rather needy gulp of ale. Peering over the rim of his glass, he looked over Adrian’s brothers. They seemed rather uninterested in the conversation, but he could not find a single solitary reason to care. “I’m pleased to hear that.”

The remainder of dinner went by rather quickly, filled with idle conversations on Adrian and Mariska’s part, while Victor merely listened. He wouldn’t admit it out-loud, but he was glad to find that the two had grown a bit closer since this morning. The beginnings of friendship would surely unfold as more time passed, and it was great in its own respect. Although he was unaware of the fact, Victor’s eyes had become glued to the fiery red-head. His bright blue eyes were entrancing in a way that made the lycan’s heart skip a beat. He was quickly broke from his trance-like state when Mariska said his name, questioning Victor about the tour he was to give Adrian the following day. Time had flown by so fast that he didn’t even notice everyone at the table was finished with their meals.

“I thought maybe you could show him around after breakfast tomorrow.” Mariska continued on. “We’ll finish up Adrian’s lessons afterwards.”

“Sounds like a plan.” Victor replied, finishing off the remainder of his ale, before standing up. Looking down at the young vampire, he kindly gestured for the boy to follow him. “If you are finished…please permit me to escort you to your quarters, Prince Adrian.”

Adrian lowered his eyes in embarrassment at Mariska’s words. He honestly didn’t see himself as that capable, having stumbled and forgotten things several times. Of course it was all to be expected, but it still embarrassed him. Victor’s brief statement on that had Adrian caught. He didn’t know if that meant he needed to try harder, or if he should feel good with that reaction.

Mariska distracted him from such thoughts though as she continued their previous discussion. Her attitude and manner helped to relax him a bit, even with Victor and his brothers’ presence. He didn’t fail to notice Victor’s gaze though, feeling those eyes laying heavily on him, he refused to look and embarrass them both however and kept his gaze either on Mariska or his glass. He couldn’t help but wonder if he was being silently judged though. Was Victor watching him and wishing he was someone else? Someone more attractive, older perhaps. Maybe better educated or more interesting? There were so many ways in which he could fall short of the emperor’s desires.

Finally looking to him when Mariska took his attention, he glanced down . He was about to say that the tour was unnecessary if it would interfere with what needed to be done, but Victor spoke before him. Surprised when the man stood up, Adrian watched him and quickly nodded. Standing, he said a good night to Mariska and his brothers before he followed Victor, falling silent as he trailed after him. Even though he knew the way now, he wasn’t confident enough to even attempt to walk beside the other man, even if it had been his place. Halfway to his room, he cleared his throat awkwardly. He had to try and at least talk to Victor didn’t he? He would be married to him soon enough. “I forgot to ask about your day your majesty….” he said slowly.

“My day?” Victor asked, arching a single eyebrow as he looked down at the young vampire. “The preparations kept me busy for most of it. Not really complicated work per say, although it was tiresome to say the least.”

He gave the boy a tired smirk as they continued on; making their way closer to Adrian’s bedroom with each step they took. For some reason he found himself rather…at-ease around the vampire. Adrian was so gentle and kind-hearted in a way that was vastly different from the rest of his kind…at least the one’s he had met over the years. Not to mention the boy’s personality was completely opposite of his own rocky exterior and stern nature. He couldn’t help but wonder if Adrian got that from his mother, since he obviously didn’t inherit those traits from his father. He felt his heart skip a beat for the second time that night, not really sure what was causing it. Once they arrived Victor opened the door, and let the younger male enter, while he continued to stand in the entranceway.

“It has been a long day, so I hope you will forgive me if I happen to skip breakfast tomorrow morning.” Victor stated, his eyes quickly drawn to Adrian’s lips, where a drop of crimson stained the corner of his mouth. Reaching a hand up, he gently wiped the blood from the boy’s lips, before shoving said hand into his robe’s pocket. “Excuse me. You had a speck of blood.”

He gave the boy a small smile, before continuing to speak.

“My sister will come by to escort you to breakfast in the morning. I will be sure to meet you afterwards. Have pleasant dreams, Prince Adrian.”

With that said, Victor turned and headed off to his own chambers, hoping to get a good night’s rest.

Adrian instantly felt stupid at Victor’s look. He knew Victor had only been doing work on the wedding, nothing that he’d want to talk about, and certainly more trouble than it would be worth. Looking down as Victor began to answer, he nodded. “I’m sorry for the trouble…..at least you won’t have to worry about it anymore in a few days.” He said slowly. Of course his brothers had predicted that Victor would tire of him and have him killed in a few years anyway, so he could end up having to plan another wedding anyway.

Stepping into his room when Victor opened the door, he turned back to Victor. He was a little surprised when Victor said he might not come to breakfast and asked him to excuse him. “Of course your majesty.” He said softly, bowing his head a little. It was his palace and food, it wasn’t Adrian’s place to be upset with him. Freezing when a hand reached toward him, his eyes looked up to Victor again, both scared and shocked as he flinched as the hand neared him, expecting a blow for something. When an explanation was given, his face flushed and he instantly bowed his head and stepped away. “I see…..” he murmured, horribly embarrassed.

Nodding quickly though he didn’t look up, Adrian retreated a little more. “Thank you….good night your majesty….” He said quickly. Not relaxing until Victor’s footsteps disappeared down the hall, he slowly sat on the edge of his bed. He really was amazed at how Victor managed to make him feel a fool so quickly. Of course it wasn’t any fault of the man’s but Adrian’s own insecurities, especially around someone so powerful.

The following morning Mariska found herself walking through the large halls of the castle, whistling a soft tune to herself as she made her way towards Adrian’s room. She had already tried to wake up her stubborn older brother, but he was still quite exhausted from the previous day. However, Victor did promise to meet her and the young vampire in the library after breakfast. He had also requested that she keep Adrian’s brothers busy while he gave his soon-to-be husband a tour of the castle and its grounds. She couldn’t help but giggle slightly. Just thinking about her stoic brother escorting the nervous young prince around on a private excursion was simply delightful.

Mariska was glad that her brother seemed to like Adrian, in his own little way that is. He was so apprehensive before, but after meeting the boy his tensions seemed to lessen quite a bit, even in this short amount of time. From what she could tell they got along rather well, which was good. Mariska could only hope that Adrian would be patient with her brother. Victor was reserved, and definitely wasn’t skilled at expressing his emotions. Well…certain emotions anyway, but behind that stern demeanor was a kind and noble man. Once she made it to Adrian’s room, she knock on the door, only entering when she was given permission to do so.

“Good morning, Adrian.” She said with a bright and cheery smile, before stepping into the room. “Did you sleep well?”

Mariska was quite pleased at the fact that they were already on a first-name bases with each other. Just knowing that he was comfortable enough around her to do so said a lot. Normally people were put off by her, and refused to use casual terms around her simply because she was a true-blood. It was quite refreshing to have someone like Adrian around.

Adrian had barely been able to sleep yet again and had woken before the sun had even begun to rise. Going ahead and getting ready for the day since he knew he wouldn’t find any more sleep, he had ended up in the windowsill again, finishing his sketch of the grounds outside. Even in the dim light, he managed. A vampire had amazing vision and he could make out fine details from great distances, even in complete darkness. When he finished, he realized that there was still some time before anyone really woke.

Settling down on his bed, he began to draw a picture of Mariska and Victor. Detailing them beautifully, he had Mariska laughing, and managed to catch the subtle softness in one of Victor’s kind moments. As he continued to draw, he pondered over what it would be like to spend so much time with Victor today. Outside of meals he had barely seen his husband-to-be, which was kind of pitiful when he thought about it. He was so lost in thought that he barely noticed Mariska’s footsteps as she approached. Looking up as she knocked his door, he called for her to come in as he began to put away his sketches. Smiling shyly at Mariska, he nodded. “Good morning.” He said softly. “I slept well enough.” He replied.

He knew it would be rude to say he had barely slept, so he wouldn’t. Getting up to go hide his sketchbook again, he began to straighten his clothes unconsciously. “I hope you slept well…..I’m sure you’ll be happier when all of this is over and you won’t have to worry about what to do with my brothers and myself.” He said softly.
