[FIN] Down and Out

Well... okay. Apparently she wasn't going to use the towel. So Yuri tried something else by trying to give her the cup of hot chocolate.

"Just walking, huh? How about I walk you home?"

Wherever that was.

The towel stayed in her lap as her hand shifted to take the hot chocolate instead, though she didn't appear to know what to do with that, either, as she blinked down at it. She blinked more at his suggestion, and lifted a confused expression to him. "But.. didn't you just say being outside now was bad..?" Because of the storm, she supposed.

"Well yeah, but its not gonna be like this forever," Yuri said with a blink of his own. "Storms like this pass pretty quick." Well at least that was more of an answer than he'd received to anything else thus far.

Well if she wasn't going to use the towels, he was. Taking one of the other ones, he started to dry his hair.

"Until then, how about drinking that so it'll keep you warm."

"Okay," she responded, still uncertain since he'd seemed so adamant about the storm... But it had started randomly, so it probably would end similarly. Not that it really mattered to her.

His suggestion to drink the hot chocolate made her look down at it again and blink. Oh, right, that was probably why he'd gotten it for her in the first place. She raised the mug to her lips to take a sip from it, and noticed him drying himself off - and then realized that's why he had given her towels. Whoops. Well, at this point she could only do one of the two things at once, and apparently that was to drink this hot chocolate.

"That must have been some accident," he said quietly as he watched her finally drink the hot chocolate.

"You've been having a hard time, haven't you," he continued. A bit personal and nosy sure, but really... Yuri wasn't always the most polite and trying to be polite wouldn't get the girl to talk. And she looked like she really needed to talk whether she realized it or not. Sera wasn't in a good way. Where were her friends? Shouldn't Luke and Rosie be looking out for her? Or her parents for that matter? Who the hell decided it was a good idea to let her walk around alone like this?

She lowered the mug and stared down at it, wilting and looking even more miserable than she had before he made his comments. "Yeah," she said softly, though to which comment she responded to was unclear, or maybe it was both.

"Shouldn't you be with your parents?" he asked, not really having any clue if they would have been in the car with her or not. She was old enough to drive after all. And while he knew that Sera was an adult by age, he was pretty sure she still lived with her folks.

His question about her parents registered in her head, but it took her a few moments to form a reply. "Mother's at home," she told her mug of hot chocolate before wilting more, "and father's dead."

Using a towel to dry off his face, Yuri paused at Sera's answer, particularly the last part. "Damn..." he muttered, muffled behind the towel that had paused halfway down his face.

Yeah someone really had it out for this girl.

"Sorry..." he then said as he put the towel down. "Can't really say I know what its like. Losing a parent and all. Never had them to begin with."

Though her gaze was still aimed down at her mug of hot chocolate, she'd all but forgotten about it again. His question made her brows furrow though, and she figured he expected her to try to explain it. "It's..." Her eyes shifted to her empty sleeve and she frowned, "weird.. like..." Like suddenly being without something that had been there her whole life - which was, oddly enough, the case for both her father and her arm. "I.. don't know," she finally finished, looking depressed again. What a pitiful attempt to explain, but really, she obviously wasn't handling it at all, so attempting to explain something she wasn't coping with was pretty hard.

"Yeah, I'd guess it'd be pretty hard to put into words, huh?" Yuri said, the man sitting back in the chair that he had moved into a few minutes ago.

"My best friend lost his dad. He'd know more about that kind of thing, but... when I heard about it, I couldn't believe it. He'd just been there, and it was weird to think that he wouldn't be anymore."

The girl sighed softly at his words. "Yeah.." It was exceedingly hard to try and talk about, but it was easy to agree with a similar sentiment, and his story received a nod. "Yeah, it was like that," she agreed, running her thumb along the side of the mug, then frowned. "We were just in the car..." Going to do.. she didn't even remember anymore, it hadn't been important to her at the time. She just remembered wanting to go home, wanting them to stop talking about the competition where she got shot... And then she woke up in the hospital to all hell.

The rumbles of thunder started to grow more distant and the rain wasn't coming down quite as hard. It wouldn't be long before the storm passed.

But man it was tough to see her like this, even if she had been a spoiled brat in the past.

"How are you doing without your hand? Nobody's giving you any trouble are they?"

His first question drew her attention to her empty sleeve, and she seemed to shrink a bit in response. "It's... different," she replied lamely, bowing her head at his second question. "They did.."

Yuri sighed and leaned forward to place a hand on the girls shoulder.

"There's probably not anything I could say or do that'll make you feel better," he started and really he wished there was.

"I could tell you it's going to be okay but really it'll be tough. Things will be different now... But you can get through this. You're a a strong girl and you have your friends to help you. Just hang in there and one day things will get better."
