[FIN] Trials and Tribulations

Well...if he was sure...

The girl cuddled the young pokemon to her chest and instead turned her attention onto the idea of exploring the country--or at least, the area they would find themselves in when they arrived. The topic of Luke's father was a little more foreign to her, though she knew only what she had been told, and she decided it wasn't worth pursuing, given his answer to Yuri's question.

"Devoirue?" she asked, tilting her head a little. "Is that where you're from, Yuri?" Something stirred inside her chest at the idea of seeing his hometown, even if it wasn't for long.

Yuri gave Luke an understanding smile. He had figured as much even if it was a shame. He himself had mixed feelings about the guy. There was a light sigh from Flynn's direction as well.

Dove's question though drew Yuri's attention back to her. "Yeah, all three of us are from there."

"It's the capital of Grande Ile, and is where we will be docking," Flynn added.

"Oh... Well, that's cool," she said, her cheeks flushing a bit pink. Of course they were all from the same place, though she had mistakenly assumed otherwise. Oops. "I guess in some ways, it'll be nice to see home, right?"

The capital... Well, she supposed that made sense, given the nature of the trip. The thought drew her attention back to her eevee, which had finally begun to wake up, blinking blearily at the group and scrunching her nose as she yawned.
At her baby's movement, Lovey hopped down from the redhead's lap and curiously watched her trainer and the kit.

Surprisingly.. there was no remark to that statement. And an awkward silence ensued.

Which Flynn eventually broke with a clearing of his throat.

"Well... anyway. I suggest we all relax and rest during the trip. We have a long day tomorrow." This said with a weak smile.

The trip to Devoirue was pretty uneventful and they would arrive the next morning.

Once again, Yuri was shackled as per protocol and Flynn escorted him off the boat to where a car was waiting.

The awkward silence settled deep in her stomach, and she immediately regretted what she had said. Obviously not.

When Flynn broke the silence, she was ever grateful, and agreed, willing to go about the ride in quiet relaxation-- or as best relaxation as she could, given the circumstances.

When they arrived in port, and Yuri was shackled again, the girl's eyes sought everything, and she blinked as they were led to a car. This new place was already amazing, and as she looked around at the people around them, she realized how absolutely out of place she must have appeared. That would likely have to change soon, she thought, were she given the time. For now, she simply followed the men into the car, careful to stay close to Yuri, unsure of how things were to go from here on out.

The car ride to the ornate court house was mostly done in silence. From there they were led to a court room where the proceedings began.

It was there that the charges were explained, everything from what had happened in Kodo, to a series of misdemeanors and some felonies. Such as harassment of members of the Guarde...

"Man is he still sore over that? I just kicked him into the river."

...and resisting arrest, to theft of Guarde property etc.

When asked what his plea was, Yuri shrugged. "Guilty I guess, can't really deny any of that."

Members of the Guarde, civilians, and Luke and Dove were also given a chance for comment before sentencing.

As she had expected of it, the Court House did little to disappoint her, and as they began the trial, she found herself feeling more and more out of place and toying with the ends of her hair more than usual out of pure nervousness.

Her eyes widened at the lengthening accusations, and even more so as Yuri pleaded guilty to all of them, and with such nonchalance.

When she had been given her turn to defend him, she had done her best, fully explaining the situation, her heart racing in her chest as she was questioned on specifics. Yes, what he had done had been terrifying, but he had saved them; the men he had killed wouldn't have stopped without force. Outside the range of her comfort level, she identified herself more specifically, hoping that by some miracle, it might have a little more sway. Luke's father was a politician, too, right? Surely that had some influence here... At this point, she would admit to anything true, so long as it would help Yuri.

Once everyone had made their case, and after some deliberation by the judge, the sentence was given. Yuri Lowell was sentenced a large fine due to his many offenses in Grande Ile while the incident in Kodo was dropped in self defense.

However, since Yuri was unable to pay the fines he would be held until the fee could be paid or he served two months in prison. With that ruling, everyone was dismissed and Yuri was lead out by some Guarde officers to be taken to the local jail.

Flynn remained behind and looked on grimly as his friend was taken away. Eventually he too began to leave.

As the sentence was given, Dove swallowed hard, knowing full well that Yuri wouldn't be able to pay the hefty fine they demanded of him, and while she immediately motioned to pay it herself, she hesitated, knowing that involving her family any more than she already had would be total folly and possibly even more dangerous for not only Yuri, who came to mind first, but also herself.

Trapped watching as they led him away, she took a deep breath and tried to calm her nerves as the others filtered out of the hall. When the majority of the officers and locals had taken their leave, she shook her head, speaking just loud enough for Flynn and Luke to hear. "S-So now what... We can't just leave him." Her pulse beat uncomfortably, as she looked around again, and with one of their party gone, the feeling of being entirely out of place was complete.

At Dove's question, Flynn sighed. "Yuri has to pay for his crimes like anyone else," he told her with a tone that suggested he didn't like it either, but it was true.

The blonde didn't have any means to pay for his release either.

"He got off lightly. Your words must have helped him," Flynn said as he gave her a light smile.

She stayed quiet a few moments more, and pushed her hair back from her face, her gaze again wandering to the door they had taken him through. She had heard Flynn's reasoning, but barely seemed to accept it.

His smile and comment next was received with a little interest, but the expression wasn't returned as fully. "Ill figure something out." she sighed quietly, looking again to the door. "What do we do now, though...?" Most of the people in the room had gone, and she knew barely anything about the region other than what she could gather at first glance.

"Well... I have some things to attend to," he said regretfully. "But why don't you take a look around the city?"

After all it was her first time to their country. Perhaps doing some sight seeing might put her a little at ease.

She hesitated, more unsure now that Flynn was having to leave her as well, and while she still had Luke, the blonde's suggestion was good. A walk alone would give her time to clear her head, at the very least, and she did want to explore a little.

While the thought of going alone was somewhat nerveracking, she didnt want to drag Luke around on a tour if his home, so with a nod, she stepped back. "I'll do that... Just... Let me know when you're free again..." she said to both, before making her way to a door and immediately releasing Lovey into her arms, a comfort she seemed she needed, given the circumstance.

"All right, I will," Flynn assured her before taking his leave.

It would be a few hours before Flynn would call her and let her know that he was free. Really, he just wanted to go home and take care of some things there and rest. However, he knew that Dove needed a friend so he could put off going home till that evening.

Telling her to meet him next to the fountain in the town square, he would be waiting there for her, still in his uniform.

During the time Flynn had been busy, Dove had taken to the streets, wandering around the sections of the city she deemed safe enough for an outsider, Lovey cuddled close to her chest, her memory alert so she wouldn't get lost.

It was odd, she felt, that there were so few Pokemon out and about with the people, though she did spot a few other eevee here and there, and other, more 'domestic' Pokemon, that have her a little affirmation in having her own so close. The most immediate diffeence, to her, was the style if dress, and as she felt incredibly awkward with the attention she assummed she gleaned from her simple attire, and as she had little clue as to what the sandatds were for rank and manner of dress, she decided then to ask assistance when he next saw the group she had come with. While she certainly didnt plan to force them into shopping with her, it would at keast e nice to have an opinion. and given the circumstances, she was finding he needed wven more of a distraction... and thought, perhaps, she wasnt the only one.

Though she enjoyed her self performed tour, she was eternally relieved wen Flynn called for her, and quickly made her way to the fountain, only having to stop for directions a few times. When she arrived, she offered him a slight smile of gratitude. He looked tired, and she could only imagine how he felt about his best friend's sentence.

"Hey... Thanks for meeting me..." she greeted almost sheepishly.
