Absolutely love Akitas. I've owned two. <3

And I have to say they describe you perfectly. I can totally see you as one. xP

I would love to be an akita, but I know my characteristics wouldn't match up.

It gets you thinking though... I really don't know what kinda of dog I'd be... can you think of one i'd be by what you know of me?

EDIT: Some traits I know of myself. Creative, loyal, friendly (but prefers to be alone), quiet, a bit stubborn, playful, flirty, mellow... those are somethings... It's hard picking trait for myself because I know there's probably more I don't know about

i know a ferret person. They had to get rid of their ferrets because of money restraints and a smaller apartment
But I'll agree that there's a canine and/or feline for everyone

I feel like you are reading what I am saying backwards. Im not saying noone likes ferrets. I have worked with a couple amazing ferrets over the years. We also have a person in this guild who loves ferrets. What I was saying is no matter who you are you could probally find a dog of the right level of energy, size, temperment, interllect etc to match you. By the opposite standard, you are limited to about 12 types of ferrets you can get which are mainly only color morphs of each other. The world canine organisation recognises over 330 breeds of dogs (ignoring mutts and mixes, or most colour variations) which would take it much much higher.

XD cool cool. I mean if we were just talking animals we like, then well I would have hundreds
or I'm more general than you're being?

More mutts are being recognized as "designer" breeds -.-

"The AKC does not recognize designer dogs as breeds, for a variety of reasons." "The AKC does not recognize the Labradoodle (considered a mixed breed)"

Most kennel clubs dont recognise designer breeds, neither do I. A mixed breed is a mixed breed, even if just a hybrid (A mix of two) a hybrid is still not a breed. So no matter how "posh" someone thinks they are with a designer breed, all they have is a mixed breed or a mutt....just one they paid a stupid ammount for.

Although "puppy mills" can be found in most breeds, they are especially common for designer breeds. (which is part of why I preffer rescue dogs, or dogs where I can see where they are produced, including all kennels/areas they are raised). Pet shops love puppy mills often, because they are the cheapest way of making puppies which means the most profit. So when you see a designer breed in a pet shop, I would assume more often than not its a puppy mill dog. (Note....cat mills are pretty common as well when it comes to pet shops, but less common when it comes to breeders for private sales, but still its best to know where they came from...)

all our cats are descendants of cats others dumped or walk-ins, so we don't know exactly where they're from, lol
The dog here is a rescue that's owned by so done else but is currently here because her owner currently is at a no-pet apartment
She's stupid and will either bark or lick you to death

Rescue animals are awesome.

Most of our cats have been, and our (departed) dog, well she was a puppy of some dogs in a trailer park type place. Basically if we hadnt taken her she might not have even made it to a shelter.

One of our cats is a SPCA cat and the other, well not sure where he came from. But he used to live at a house down the road but they got a puppy. Then he started living in our garage coming to the back step for attention and food. He comes inside more and more now which is cool. Of course I havent been home since april so dunno if hes spending much longer inside yet.

one cat literally walked in through an open basement window, down the wood pile, up the stairs, into the kitchen, and up onto the dishwasher, where I found here. Calico, huge green eyes, and she was suuuuper friendly
As in I hadn't even let her smell me yet and she was already purring

There is no way I'm not a beagle.

This pretty much sums me up minus the outgoing bit, but everything can't be perfect.

"They're happy, outgoing and loving — characteristics more than balanced out by their hound nature, which is inquisitive, determined, and focused on food."

How did I not know this about you. What was it like owning them. Did you find any particular aspects challenging?

Hmm I will have to think about this one.

I believe I mentioned it before. xP ...or not?
My first Akita we got from my mom's friend for free when I was 7. Nikkee, was her name, she was 6 yrs old when we got her. My mom's friend had to give her a way because she didn't really share well with other dogs, and my mom's friend had two other dogs she had before her so Nikkee had to go. So she gave her to us on my mom's birthday (Jan. 10th). We fell in love with her right away. She was really gentle and playful. She use to run up and down the house all the time. She was very proud. We had her for 10 years. We had to put her down when I was 17. She got arthritis in her hips (it's a commom problem in Akita), she was in pain and couldn't stand up anymore. She need help getting up and going up stairs. ...I guess her challenges were her being stubborn. She didn't really want to listen or follow directions lol. She was really good with kids and everything though. We didn't have really have problems.

And Mario, he was I think 4 yrs old. We had him for 3 months and had to give him away. I know I probably told the guild about him. He;s the one that bit my boyfriend's neck. He was very playful though and I don't know why, but my dad and I were the ones he favored most. He was very protective. But in his past he had bitten his other owners. Which the lady never informed us about. We wouldn't have gone for him if we knew that. So it was sad to give him back. I loved him so much.
This is Mario...

I remember you talking about those dogs, but I dont remember you saying they were akitas or showing pics.

Hip dysplasia is extremly common in many pure breed dogs (And thats what it sounds like Nikkee had. 17 is a good age for any large dog. Its the same age our Huntaway lived to until she had to be put down.

Yeah I know akitas need strict training and a trainer who establishes they are the alpha, but still can allow the akita to use its proud traits. I have heard they tend to be really good with kids but can be over protective and not good with other dogs and cats (But if socialised well and early can be overcome).

Did they have much of a "soft mouth" (aka the bite thats not a bite, the one thats more holding that biting). Like I would let my dog soft mouth bite my arm all the time as this is a common affection thing in dogs. But of course she knew she wasnt allowed to clamp (Unless I knew it was accidental).

Nikkee did the "soft mouth". Mario often tried to n** at our faces. I don't think he's old owner taught him too well and were always aggressive. I think we could have trained him not to bite, but we didn't want to take the risk of him biting someone else and being fatal. But when he bit my boyfriend Danny's neck he was wagging his tail like he was playing. He liked Danny a lot.

Nikkee was very good with kids. We use to babysit my cousin from when he was 2-4 years old and he use to lay on her and she'd have no problem. She didn't like when you touched her hip though. She would give a warning bark if you touched her there. And she was playful with other dogs. We use to leave her in a kennel when we went away somewhere for a long time and she played nicely. But she if we owned another dog I don't think she would have liked it much. She was very dominated. She treated my brother, sister, and I like her own pups.

I am especially easily swayed by food lol.

They are definitely my favorite breed. 3nodding
I mean like, my friends and family joke that Daisy and I are the same person just different species.

My top three are probably, Beagles, Pit Bulls, and Aussies.

Nice, I am very big on big furry energetic dogs like Spitz breeds, Huskys, Chows, Samoyeds, Akitas, elkhound, malamutes Etc.
