Amelia Cross A look of realization came across her face as he shouted at her. He hadn't seen it because it had never been there. This was the real world, not another simulation, though it seemed she had taken some of the monsters out with her. With a nod Amelia gritted her teeth. Still she couldn't help but give the coils of barbed wire a disdainful look as she quickly stepped around them to reach the ladder. While she did her best to hurry up the ladder Amelia quickly found that trying to support any weight with her left arm was unbearable which slowed her accent having only one arm to hang onto the ladder for balance. Pulling herself out of the manhole was by far the worst leaving her shaking and weak on the street.

Adrian rolled his eyes slightly and followed Amelia up the ladder and out onto the street. She was slow but he was fine with that. He understood that her ribs hurt. What bothered him was the hallucination. He would have to have her examined for mental health when they returned to the base. Until then he would just deal with it. Once they were both on the street Adrian looked around. He could hear the sirens closing in and would have preferred to avoid a chase so he tried to help Amelia up. "We need to move."

Amelia Cross “I know.” She agreed, struggling to her feet with his help. Resting for a minute wasn't an option with sirens close enough to hear. She would lean on him heavily and still need to be half dragged to the van as they ran the short distance. At least out in the sunlight most of her fears had vanished, though she found herself checking for the monster. Amelia was all too happy to finally sit down in the van, closing her eyes with a sign while pressing her hand against her side. Hopefully their medic would at least have some good painkillers on them.

Once they were all settled in the van the driver took off down the road. They put a lot of distance between them and the building before Adrian signaled to the medic that Amelia needed help. Painkillers were the first thing the medic gave her before taking out what looked like a portable black light. He turned the light on and held it near Amelia's ribs for a few seconds before his phone buzzed. He flipped the switch to shut off the light and set it back in his bag before looking at his phone. "How many did she break?" Adrian asked. the medic held up three fingers and then began typing something on his phone.

Amelia Cross “I didn’t break anything. Joseph broke them.” She clarified though it wasn’t really necessary. Perhaps the pain killers had her feeling a little bit out of it though all pain had vanished thankfully. “Right after he slapped me. Ironically while trying to prove that physical harm would no longer be necessary and his methods would provide faster results. Joseph liked to talk too much.” She closed her eyes again shifting slightly in the chair. “You guys are pretty well equipped. Those portable scanners are hard to get a hold of outside of government jobs. Expensive to. You never did tell me your name.”

"You let them be broken." Adrian countered from his seat in the back of the van. He turned over his arm and pulled off the wrist mounted computer he was wearing before handing it to the man sitting next to him. "It's still a little clunky." He quietly said to the man sitting beside him. "I'm telling you, just use your phone. You'll always have it on you and can still perform all the hacking you want. The hardware we put in will ensure that." "I know Alex but the computer looks cool." Adrian grumbled slightly as he pulled his extendable baton out of the holster on his thy and began looking at it. "It takes to long, you could save time using your phone." Alex replied. "I know." Adrian looked over at Amelia who had been speaking and listened to the last half of what she was saying. "The scanners are expensive, unless you steal them like we did. Ninety percent of our supplies were stolen from the government. The rest were made by our quartermaster. As for my name, again it doesn't matter."

Amelia Cross “It is usually nice to have something to call someone, even if it is a fake name.” She commented. “What did you steal to heal broken bones?” With luck they would have the accelerate CR-202 that could repair most bones in days instead of months, though that was even more tightly controlled than the scanners. While falling asleep in a van full of strangers probably wasn't a good idea, Amelia was struggling to stay awake. Exhaustion from the week spent in captivity coupled with whatever drugs their medic had given her had the black abyss of sleep clawing at her. “Just wake me up when we get there.” She mumbled softly before drifting off.

"Nice but irrelevant. However if you must have one, the others call me Adrian." The rebel spoke as if it was not actually his name and it wasn't, there was far more to the story of why he didn't find names important, but Amelia would need to know him a little better to figure that out. everyone had a reason for joining the rebellion even Adrian. When Amelia drifted off to sleep without an answer to her other question Adrian looked over at the others in the van. "Yeah, she doesn't get any better. "

Amelia Cross Amelia fell into an uneasy sleep, full of nightmares though she looked perfectly peaceful to the outside world thanks to the drugs the medic had given her. Still when the medic shook her awake there was a second of panic before she remembered where she was. “You startled me.” She explained though she could only imagine what kind of crazy person they thought they risked their lives to rescue. Especially Adrian who had witnessed a full hallucination. Nightmares were to be expected and would probably fade with time, but hallucinations were more troubling. She followed the others out of the van, a dull ache in her side. If the drugs were starting to ware off than they must have traveled some distance. They were inside some sort of warehouse with a few other vehicles though so she really had no idea if it was even day or night. Though honestly she had no idea what time they had rescued her either other than the sun had been out. “So which way?” She asked looking around the room. She somewhat assumed the medical ward would be first, but perhaps whoever was running the rebel effort would want to question her first.

"Down." Adrian said as he walked past Amelia towards the far wall. The warehouse they were in was fairly empty but there were still a few shipping containers arranged in rows. They had parked in one of the widest rows in the warehouse and had been there for a few minutes. Adrian had gotten out of the car earlier and started talking with the others who had arrived. They had secured the area and so Adrian saw no harm in showing Amelia where they were going. He figured she had never really been to the headquarters and he knew for a fact that she had never met the man running it all. Adrian walked along the wall of shipping containers, which created one side of their row, knocking on each one until the noise went from a thud to a clank. When it did he turned to face the container he had hit. "They moved it. They should have told me." Adrian turned to look over at one of the men by the van. The man shrugged and Adrian placed his hand flat against the container. There were a few seconds of silence and then the wall of the container slid down into the floor and Adrian stepped inside. It appeared to be empty but that didn't seem to bother Adrian. "Well come on now we have to go."

Amelia Cross Amelia watched with curiosity as walked along the containers knocking on them. It wasn’t the only thing she was curious about though. Several questions rattled around inside her head about what happened to her contact. How had they found where she was being kept and not him? From what she had been told in their brief conversation not much of an effort was being made to rescue him. Her rescuer was on that list as well. Why be so difficult about giving her what was probably a fake name? She didn’t really care that it was fake and probably wouldn’t have noticed if he had simply told her, but the way he avoided giving her an answer had her interested. He pushed on one of the containers and it’s wall disappeared into the floor. Amelia was hesitant about following him inside and clearly he noticed because already he was ordering her to follow. With a sigh she stepped inside while mumbling “Great, another dark and enclosed space.” Hopefully she would manage to hold onto her wit’s this time or better yet not hallucinate at all. Then she looked to Adrian speaking up. “You don’t need to order me every step of the way you know. Why are you in a such a hurry now?”

"Guide, not order. Order implies I have military rank. We are not a military. We are a militia at most. You have questions and likely want answers. I will provide the answers but only as soon as we reach a secure location. The headquarters." As Adrian spoke the container wall rose back up from the floor to it's original position. When it locked back in place the contained lit up and the base beneath them began to lower into the ground like an elevator. As it lowered the outer rim of the floor lit up to illuminate the long trip down. Adrian didn't say very much on the way down. When the elevator finally stopped the wall in front of them slid open to reveal a massive hangar with various hallways that shot off on the sides. The hangar was filled with a few armored trucks and a tank or so, each one being attended to by a group of people implying two things. The rebellion had many active supporters, and there was another way in and out of the facility so they could move vehicles. Adrian walked forward the moment the elevator doors opened, clearly not impressed by the base. To be fair he had seen it thousands of times, the only thing that would have caused pause is if something had been out of place.
He was only a few steps before the elevator when a man slid up next to him with a clipboard and began walking beside him. "Director Bates, we are ahead of schedule on the the virus. Give us a few more days and we should have one to run controlled testing on."
"Good, return to the quartermaster and continue working. I don't want to hear more until it is ready." With a few words the man had gone and another had taken his place.
"We sent a patrol into the northern district of the city, only two men returned and their reports would suggest he isn't there." The man explained as he began showing Adrian some footage on a tablet. Adrian grimaced slightly and then pat the man on the back.
"It's alright, make sure the men are taken care of and prep another scouting party for the southern sections." When Adrian dismissed that man no one else appeared. Adrian made it all the way across the hangar and turned into a hallway. Amelia didn't want to be ordered around, then she wouldn't be, but he expected her to follow.

Amelia Cross She couldn't help but snort a little as his 'guiding' certainly felt like being ordered around. Still she kept the remark to herself. He was right about wanting answers as her list of questions was getting rather lengthy at this point. Were they not in a secure location already? Was this not headquarters? She was more than a little relieved that the container lit up after the wall returned to it's original position. More relieved than she even wanted to admit. She stood in silence as they descended into the earth unconsciously holding her aching side. As the doors opened she looked around in surprise before realizing Adrian was walking down the hanger without her. Stepping quickly to catch up Amelia follow a few steps behind while listening passively to the men talking to him while looking around. Seriously, a tank? Those kinds of weapons where have supposed to have been dismantled years ago by the government in this time of peace. Did they steal it or build it? Human virus or computer virus she couldn't help but mentally ask. She assumed computer, but she couldn't imagine what for. Sybil was hailed as corruption proof and they would be far from the first to try. Naturally several had tried before, and the Sybil system assaulted daily yet she couldn't even remember the last time there had been any kind of breach. As for their talk about about scouting parties, she wondered if it was for her missing contact. It could be anyone really, someone worth sacrificing others apparently. More to add to her ever growing list of questions. She stepped up next to him as he turned down a hall. “Director huh?” She looked at him with a raised eyebrow. Why the hell had he come out into the field to rescue her if that was the case?

"A temporary position, I hope." Adrian began to explain as he reached the end of the hallways and turned to the stairwell. He walked all the way up the stairs to the one room at the top. His office. It appeared to be an empty room with four walls, a tile floor, and a ceiling. However one of the walls was entirely glass and overlooked the hanger. It was a symbol that there should be no secrecy. That the one who lead should always be in the view of the ones who followed. It was Adrian's father's idea. Adrian believed that sometimes secrets were the only way to protect the world from itself. However when Adrian stepped into the room the tiles on the floor lit up and a holographic map spread across the ground. He ignored it and turned to Amelia. "Your contact, the man you compromised by sending your message, the man who didn't have enough time to send his own, was my father. He was the director. To be honest my father managed all of our spies, you were the only one who was caught. When he was taken I became the director. So yes it is a fairly new position." Adrian paused and walked over to the glass wall. "So, questions?"

Amelia Cross She was silent for a long minute after he asked her if she had any questions. What the hell was she suppose to say to that? Her first instinct was to defend herself and explain what really happened, but shifting the blame wouldn't help the situation. “I didn't know. Look, I know it doesn't change anything, but I am sorry. So why rescue me? Especially personally? I could have probably found him from the inside, but getting access to that kind of information from the outside is nearly impossible. All I can offer you are educated guesses, but I've already given you the locations of most of their buildings. Going back in would be suicidal.” Especially considering how she had nearly caused her rescue to fail. She glanced down at the floor, her eyes slowly tracing the map. ”It would take months to build a remote access and they would know it's location the second it was used.”
