Her heart leapt a little, that he would acquiesce to berries. But her ears drooped to share her little winter stash. Still, better berries than bunnies, even Kiss Kiss knew that much.
"There are a cluster of bushes," she explained, hopping her way along, "but only two are fruiting. They are hidden by the rest, and so far nobody else knows."

It definitely wasn't the season for berries which meant his mouth was already watering from the thought. Meat was all well and good but you really needed something sweet afterwards.
Of course he tried not to make his eagerness too obvious as he trotted along at her side. "Sneaky rabbit," he praised, "keeping the good stuff to yourself."

She shook the shiver of thrill at his compliment out through to her tail.
"Of course!" she beamed, "at least, till now."
She dove into the cluster, popping her head up with a sprig of bright red berries and tossing them at his hooves.
"More here," she said, ducking into the bushes again.

The sprig of delightfully red and shiny berries landed at his hooves and didn't last long. He was on them in a second, devouring them so quickly he was left with only the lingering taste in his mouth and the vague thought of 'I should have savoured those'.
He stared after her eagerly, waiting for more.
Whistler had followed, the bird sitting on a nearby branch, intent and hoping to grab a bite of his own.

When her head next appeared, her mouth was smeared red, and crammed as full of sprigs as her jaws would allow. She leapt out of the bush and deposited them in a heap on the ground.
"So much for a winter's worth," she remarked, pulling out a small tangle of berries to snack on, "but sometimes it's nice to feast."

"Mhm," was the only response he gave as he got to work on the rest of her offering, expertly separating the berries from the sprigs and dropping the unwanted parts aside.
It was only after Whistler gave the saddest little tweet did he finally put one sprig into the tree, with a begrudging, "you don't deserve this."
Or maybe it did, otherwise he wouldn't be eating berries and the little bunny doe wouldn't be looking increasingly cuter, especially with that smear of red berry juice across her mouth.
Yeah, okay, Whistler deserved all the berries it wanted.

She kept her head lowered, grazing, but her eyes were discreetly trained upon the buck. He was much less terrifying, munching away at the berries like this...and rather handsome. It was almost enough to make her forget that he'd almost just ripped her throat out.
Well, he did stop. And he was handsome then, too.

He wasn't discreet about looking at her. His stare was steady and unyielding, travelling along every inch of her body. This was a different kind of prey but one he was more than willing to stalk.
There was an easy grin on his face but the gleam in the eyes was purely that of a hunter.
