Roshi's first martial arts lesson was for Goku and Krillin to find a stone that Roshi threw in order to sharpen the mind, but even though Krillin cheated to get the stone away from Goku, that hardly mattered when Krillin and Roshi were food poisoned by Launch via a pufferfish stew.

8 Months had passed by in what seemed like minutes and the boys have gotten much stronger from when they began. They can jump higher, run faster, and they can move giant boulders too with their bare hands. Now they are registered at the tournament about to take on the preliminary rounds.

To determine who will fight who in the finals, the contestants had to draw numbers. Krillin had to fight Bacterian, Jackie Chun aka Roshi has to fight Yamcha, Ran fan has to fight Nam, and Goku has to fight Giran.
In the fight between Krillian and Bacterian, Bacterian was winning until Goku reminded Krillin that Krillin had no nose. And so, Krillin knocks Bacterian down with a kick and then farts in his face, thus giving Krillin the win.

Jackie Chun beats Yamcha with one air-based attack with a joke to match the move's intensity. Nam beats Ran fan after realizing what she is trying to do. He beats her with a knockout. Next to fight will be Goku against Giran.

When Goku first faces Giran, a storm starts thus delaying the match. After the storm, Goku takes a nap where Ran fan finds him. Then, Giran sucker punches Goku into the wall, but Goku gets up. Then Goku throws Giran out of the ring, but because Giran didn't touch the ground, he wasn't out just yet. Then Giran uses tummy gum to bind Goku. Giran tosses Goku outside of the ring, but the nimbus cloud saves Goku from losing. Goku's tail grows back and frees him from the tummy gum. After kicking the wall, Goku wins because Giran surrenders.

Jackie Chun faces Krillin and beats him. But it was an intense fight and Krillin did well for his first try at the world's martial arts tournament.
Now its Goku against Nam.

Goku beats Nam by using a kick to send him flying out of the ring after fighting him in the air. Now its Jackie Chun against Goku in the finals.

When Jackie traps Goku in his unbreakable electric attack surprise, Goku transforms into Oozaru form and goes ape. Then Jackie blows up the moon using his Kamehameha technique, but it appeared like Jackie attacked the giant ape.

After exhausting all of their fancy tricks, and after Goku redresses, Jackie Chun ends up being the winner. However, thanks to Goku's large appetite, the prize money that Jackie earned gets spent on Goku's meal.

Goku sets off on his cloud and punishes a pterodactyl for trying to capture then eat Nam. Then Goku destroys a dam blocking a river of water. Thanks to a sandstorm, the river dries up, but then Goku shows the village the roaming lake to help Nam out.

Three groups are going after the same dragon ball this time around. There's Emperor Pilaf and his henchmen, there's the red ribbon army, and of course Goku is looking for the dragon balls as well. The dragon ball they are looking for is being air lifted by a seagull.
