Many things have been happening in the world of Chisa!

First off, a new and much cleaner layout on my web journal, chi, and using Blogger for the first time (man it makes things sooo much easier)

New artwork:

Aaaand after talking to the people who offered me work experience, they're letting me do all of my required 8 weeks full time there with them! Good news for me, since I haven't had any positive response from anywhere else stare

Exams are coming up, and I'm starting work experience after that, so you might start seeing less of me... but then again, I'm a net bum, so I'll probably still find time for the guild blaugh

Things to do on holidays:
- work experience
- start learning php
- start learning MySQL
- play around with screen printing on clothes
- get some concrete plans (and a name) for online magazine
- redo portfolio
- get drivers license >.<
- watch lotssss of anime
- play around with Quark
- try doing some sequential art

I have to learn SQL and databases in 3rd year (I think you do it in like 4th year?) so yeah... its worth learning. And apparently they use them a lot in web design firms sweatdrop

The work experience place is so close to where I live, I'm gonna try rollerblading there every day... even though I haven't done it in ages, not sure if I can blade down a busy street and not die xp

Its taken me so long to complete this picture... and its not even really complete (she's supposed to be holding scales, and there is supposed to be embroidery on her dress/sash...) but oh well. I've decided I really need to work more on my illustration skills... among many other things xd

I just had two exams yesterday (Computer Hardware and Software Engineering Design) which went... okay. Only two left, then holidays! Then I'll have to get all this stuff done. Watch out for a list of things to draw and things to learn, coming soon!

- Summer wallpaper for Affinite
- start learning PHP and SQL before work experience starts
- finish off kung fu site
- illustrations, new business card, membership form, website and material for kung fu school
- clean up the horrible tangled mess that is my computer *shudder*

Low Priority - i'll do it eventually...

Damn, I kind of abandoned this topic, didn't I? sweatdrop Well I'm bringing it back again, because I want to show what I've been working on lately, and I don't want to make new topics for them... so here's whats been going on lately in the world of Chisa.

After a lot of panic and effort putting together my resume and portifolio last year, I did manage to find work experience at a place called Bam Creative - although it was because GhoSt-X's brother is friends with the owner. Just goes to show that who you know is almost as important as what you know in this business xd

I had a great time working there full time for the 8 weeks I need for my course, and now at the end of it, they gave me a part-time job xd So I'll be there a few hours a week during the uni semester, and possibly full-time on the holidays, depending on how much work they have to give me. I'm moving up!

Here's some of the stuff I've been working on:

Personal Projects
  • CHI Journal - Yup, I redid my personal site once again, and moved it over to my teresawatts.com account so the url is a bit easier to remember. I went with a bluey greeny layout inspired by a pair of earrings, and put into use some of the new CSS stuff I've been learning xd

  • yarnyeetong.com - After promising this for like a year, I finally got off my butt and finished this site for my kung fu school. IT ACTUALLY VALIDATES!!!! Tried to make it suitable for different screen resolutions and browsers. Still working on adding pictures to the content, and drawing more vector images for the backgrounds, so there can be a different one for each page.

  • Detox Your Body - layout design for the 'detox your body' special of my friend's e-zine. Another free job, but I did learn alot. I'm proud of navigation bar, but I don't like the grey background that she asked me to use sad Currently working on the layout for the next special: Detox Your Bed wink

  • Random Illustrations:

Work Stuff
  • Vmoto - I had to code, style and do the data entry for the search form. It was the first time I'd ever done anything with a database and SQL before, so twas a bit of a challenge :XP. Also had to create an admin section for the client to add new dealers, and all the relevant PHP/SQL stuff for that.

  • TradeQuote - had to do random bits of styling, fixing up pages and putting in forms for this site. The database behind this site is HUGE; its taken my coworker months to do, and its still not complete xp Glad I didn't have to work on that side of things.

  • Old Broome Estate - I got given the designs for each page as a .psd, and just had to code them up. Simple right? You'd be suprised.

  • Weblaunch - This is what I've mainly been working on at work; its my baby. The idea behind it is that most site have 4 sections: a header, a footer, an area for content, and a navigation area. Most layouts will have the header at the top, the footer at the bottom, and the navigation on the left of the content, on the right, or above it, under the header. So we've developed a set of stylesheets that can take the same html, and turn it into one of those layouts. Then we developed stylesheets that will dictate the colours and menu styles. The idea is that now a client can look at the layouts and choose one, then tell us what colours they want, and all it requires is changing a couple of values on the stylesheets, adding in some custom graphics, and its done! Voila, modular web design. The client can also log in and change and add content and pages themselves, similar to Blogger, but much more powerful.

So, to make template for the clients to choose from, I had to make 160 different templates sweatdrop They are all similar in a way, but it still took a looooot of work. Then I had to take screenshots of them all, to show in the template chooser I made (linked above). The brochures for it are going to be going out soon, I hope it does well so I can keep my job!

Sooo yeah, I've been busy sweatdrop Chinese New Year performances this week, new part time job, this is my last year of uni aaand I have to take on more than the standard load of units aaand I'm doing a double major... I'm thinking maybe its a good thing I didn't go for those Japanese night classes now sweatdrop

What are the chances of you getting some video of your kung fuing for us to see? That'd be awesome!

The buttons across the top are really cool, but it trickes my eyes a little. To me it looks like the the buttons are cut-outs, the red with smile , @, etc are in the background and there are holes in the white foreground. That looks good, but when you mouse over the shadow doesn't really coincide with that.

Complements:
Very creative and professional site.
Simple (in a good way)
Pretty
The buttons are cute and clever (the profile smiley should be a wink wink )

Pages that don't pass HTML 4.01
http://www.teresawatts.com/profile.html (closed li/ul that wasn't ever open)
http://www.teresawatts.com/web/web_x.html
http://www.teresawatts.com/ill/ill_x.html
(alt tag specified on a link and no alt="" on arrows)

I give it 5 shimmery gold stars! blaugh

Pyon: Thankyou! Yes, the old kung fu site was embarrassing >.
Hizzahn: I'm planning to put some smaller, notable but not quite portfolio worthy things in the 'fun' section, like wallpapers of my characters, animations, etc (although I haven't started on any of those things yet xp ).

Thanks for the comprehensive comments! Yeah, the buttons thing is weird, but wasn't really sure what else to do there sad I'll have to look into fixing those other things.
