Well...I don't really go to school(I'm homeschooled),so I don't really have to worry about that.If it was possible,I would probably hide the fact that I like Yugioh from my mom and my brother.My brother calls me a little kid all the time for it n_n; and I'm always scared that my mom is going to take it away from me because I'm so obsessed with it.She thinks it's unhealthy... sweatdrop As for my friends,I think one likes Yugioh,and the others...don't really care either way.They just never have any idea what I'm talking about...

Yu-Gi-Oh isn't a show/manga that is easy to explain to people. Yes, it's pretty easy to explain the card game and stuff, but the characters themselves - especially Mariku and the spirits of the Sennen Items - are pretty hard to explain. My mom thought I was a little crazy when I told her about Mariku. XD She was like: "are all these characters schitzo??!!"

Now she says she likes those volumes but doesn't like the dueling. I've gotten her to like the characters at least and support Puppyshipping. XD Kind of like how she's gotten me into Friends and Degrassi... ^.^;;;

Ohkami and I have managed to make a friend of ours like yaoi, mainly puppy and puzzle. And my little brother is just as much of an anime fan as I am.

to Hypnotique: Schizo doesn't have a "t" in in. sweatdrop Sorry, I just learned that, like, this year, so I like to point stuff out like that. It seems like it would though, doesn't it?
Anyway, about being ashamed of your Yugioh fandom:
See, all of my closest friends convieniently are Yugioh fans as well (or were at one point, at least) We pretty much have all been through the obsession together at one point or another. sweatdrop I can actually remember some really patheticly geeky things we did. There was this one particular night when they spent the night, and we had just gotten the YGO dub soundtrack. We listened to the song "Face Up, Face Down" so many times it wasn't funny---we made Millenium Eyes out of paper and taped them over our eyes. We also (maybe this was a different night though) watched through the dub intros in slow-mo (frame-by-frame) and looked for subliminal messages. And strangely enough, we think we actually found some. sweatdrop But those are different stories, we were young and weird...er than we are now.
I'm not popular, and I actually don't ever aspire to be, because in the past year or so, I've learned to embrace my geekiness. I'm actually pretty cool with people making fun of Yugioh, or even kind of laughing over the fact that I like it, because I make fun of it myself. Earlier in the year, this guy asked me what was on my shoelaces (he knew it was something anime at least), and I told him, " Yugioh." So he sighed and said jokingly, "Yugioh? Come on...". Of course he was just joking around, so I was like, "Yeah, yeah, I know." and he just sort of laughed. He didn't really care or make a big deal out of it, he was just curious. It can be ridiculous at times, and I accept that. sweatdrop But that's what we all love, right? XD
Anyway, I wouldn't try to worry too much about what people think of you (though I know that can be hard... especially in the teenish/early-teenish years). I can't say I've never been shy about the fact that I like Yugioh; I have. But overall, I don't think you should really try to hide what you like or who you are. If you're afraid of rejection from your friends, then they prolly aren'y that great of friends in the first place. If you fear loosing a reputation---I don't know, who really cares? I mean, it might seem like a lot... but it's kinda like, if you're gonna like something, you might as well take the whole package---even if it means seeming like a geek or... unpopular... or whatever. Or maybe even you can take something considered uncool, and make it cool again just by acknowledging that you like it and it's no big deal.
Then again, if no one understands your fandom, there's always the internet! ^_^ I don't know, I'd just do whatever makes you comfortable. *nod*
Sorry for the long, annoying, corny rant. I do that sometimes. Hope it made a little bit of sense. sweatdrop

I do a lot of people in my school have grown out of Yu-Gi-Oh! and says its stupid (jackasses), I dont want to tell everyone (exept close friends) that I play or watch Yu-Gi-Oh! until i graduate 8th grade in june cuz I have a pretty big rep in school and i actually have a life so if i tell them, they might think of me differently... I'm in the 8th grade..and people now i'm obsessed w/ anime...and i do have a pretty good rep. but seriously...i tell mi friend who hates watching anime that i LOVe yugioh and she's ok with that.... that's a real friend....i don't really care if people found out...who cares

hey, don't worry if people make fun of you because of yu-gi-oh. things in high school are a lot different than they were in middle school. in my high school, everyone just seemed to stop careing. most of the popular kids in my school are into pokemon sweatdrop and if you do get the random person that teases you, all it takes is a well placed glare to get them running. 3nodding
