Ah now that I've gone name searching I have discovered that Gilraen was the name of Aragorn's mother and means "Star-wanderer". Minyatur I'm not sure about, however I have read about the original elf clans and Minyatur is kind of a variation of the first clan.

Did you guys look up the meaning of your names?

Not yet; where is a good place to look?

"Star-wanderer"; I like the sound of that...

I just search around, if you're lucky and get a name thats has been mentioned in the book you should be able to find it easy...then you got the common bits of names like Gil- means star, I'm assuming -raen is wanderer, cos I know Gilgalad means "starlight", and -galad means light.

Information about clans I found from reading "The War Of the Jewels". Quite interesting, has a whole chapter devoted to Quendi and Edar.

I don't remember Silmirallion having much information about the names....perhaps in the index at the end. If you search it on google you should be able to find it...eventually.

What I meant is if it was a name in the Simarillion it'd be in the index xd

True, but does the Silmarillion have the meanings of the names in the index?

The appendix in the Silmarillion does have definitions for various elements of Quenya and Sindarin names. So, not necessarily the entire name all in one shot, but possibly enough bits that can be pieced together... 3nodding

According to a nifty website I just found...

Quote:
JUSTIN (m.) - derivative of Latin 'just'; faila "just, generous", thus Failo or Failon

Failon. Failon. I like it.

Be sure to check out that site @ http://www.elvish.org/elm/names.html

It has most of the popular first names of the day and translates them back to Quenyan.

Niere

Wow. I haven't been in this guild forever... sweatdrop

My name in elvish (Quenya) is Niere. Yup. Just like my username. Got it from the elvish.org site. I've also seen on other sites that is some other form of "Niere" but I liked Niere best. 3nodding
