Levi was perched hear a window looking out to the other shops, waiting to see if he could catch a quick glimpse of her in the street. It was in a dark alley between the leather-works shop and the forge near the window, and Levi would've been impossible to see from the street. But he saw Ilamelle go into the leather-works shop and instantly he grew worried. That shop was one of the worst for hiding he'd found out before; most of the old equipment was in poor repair and the floorboards constantly threatened to give way. Levi whimpered softly and got down from where he was in the forge, very quietly leaving the forge and going into the old leatherworks shop behind Ila, making sure that the distance kept was enough that he could hear her, but she couldn't see him. He was afraid she'd get hurt in here.

The windows of the shop were so coated in grime that the sunlight striking them only made its way through as a dull, ambient glow from that side of the building. It smelled heavily of dust, rotted wood, and old hide. It was strong enough to make her wrinkle her nose. Peering into the dirty class display cases, she could see the shapes of some ancient pieces left here by the former occupant - small, twisted, dried looking things. For a moment she considered getting one and taking it to her father. Surely he'd know what all these strange things were used for. Some of the shelves by the workbench were laid with sheets of leather ready to be worked, but they crumbled at her touch. Sneezing violently, she shook her head till her over-large fox ears flapped, and stumbled backward from the puff of residue. She stepped hard on one of the thinner bits of floor and yelped as it broke with a sharp crack, sitting her down hard on her tail, mid-shin deep in the floor. The sharp edges of the wood scraped at her through her tough leggings, though it didn't actually cut the fabric... yet. With a whimper of fear, she wriggled and pulled, but couldn't quite figure out how to get her foot back through the small, jagged hole.

Levi warily made his way through the leatherworks. He'd been told before it was dangerous and knew it himself, but he too was always bewildered by the strange things lining the glass cases, all the things still in locked cupboards that he never knew about. He pawed at one cupboard, trying the handle quietly but to no avail, as it was locked and refused to open. The dull ambient glow made it hard to see anyway, and all the dust that had collected made it even more difficult to see when it kicked up. It was shortly after that he heard her sneeze. Hechuckled quietly to himself, but even he heard the floorboards give way and yelped when Ilamelle did, running immediately to where he'd heard the floorboards crack and dashed to the workbench, where the sounds had come from.

Of course, sound travels, and the loud crack of the floorboards coupled with Ilamelle's sneeze and Levi's late entrance to the leather-works was all worrying to their father, who quickly abandonded the work he was doing on the roof of his shop. Leaping down without much fear, he landed on one knee with relative ease and bolted off towards the works, worried.

"Levi, Levi, I'm stuck!" she cried, seeing her brother. The game was completely forgotten, and she reached for him on sight, her need for comfort and his presence palpable. Tears stood out in her great, amber eyes. "It just broke, an', an' my foot's stuck!" Her chin scrunched as she tried hard not to start crying. But the tremble in her voice gave her away as she asked, "Will I be stuck f'rever?"

In the shop, Mir's head jerked upright at the distress she felt from her daughter. Sever? she sent, alarm obvious in her mind question.

Levi swallowed hard and looked from her to her shin which was half-buried in the floorboards. Man, what would papa do? Papa... he'd know how to save Ila! he thought to himself as he pulled a bit at the floorboards, which were too strong for him to break or move. "Nuh uh, if I can't getcha out then I'll go gets papa, an' he'll help you get out! I ain't gonna letcha be stuck f'rever, Ila, kay?" He told her with a soft smile, trying to be strong for her despite wanting to cry out for her dad as loud as he could, afraid for his sister.

Sever spun around as he ran, looking back to the shop (as if it mattered, really). I'm on it, hun. I saw Levi dart into the Leatherworks, I'm sure that's where Ilamelle is too. Probably had something fall or break or some such... I'll see what's going on, don't worry, he replied to her, a smile in the sound of his voice regardless of his worry. Spinning around in time, he made a cut in his forward dash and sprinted into the works. "Levi? Ilamelle?" he called out.

"Tay..." She sniffled, biting her lip and pulling at her foot as her brother tugged at the boards. It was no use.

Mir sent wordless assent and gratitude down the line, along with the impression that she'd like an explanation when he'd finished the situation.

Miracle of miracles, her father burst into the shop. "DADDY!" she cried out, twisting around as much as she could without thinking. The boards pierced her pants to scrape her legs, and she squeaked with the sudden pain. "Daddy, help! I'm all stuck, an' it hurts!" She blinked back tears, and held still, begging him to come get her out with her eyes.

Levi moved away from Ilamelle a bit, flagging their father down with waves of his arms. "Papa, over here! Ila's stuck in th'floor, anna can't git 'er out! You gotsta do somethin, 'cuz I'm not strong enough..." He said, initially rather full of gusto but slowly losing it as he came to the realization that he was still but a child.

Sever gave him a soft smile and rushed into the room, seeing Ilamelle's rather... precarious position. "Oh dear... floorboards rotting away again? Alright, Levi, I need your help for this one." Levi sniffled a bit and nodded.

"Alright, place your arms underneath Ilamelle's, and give her a great big bear-hug when I say 3, alright?" Levi nodded. "Ok papa, but... what're you gonna do?" He simply placed his large boot-clad foot about 8 inches from Ilamelle's hole, staring at his son. "One... two... three!"

Levi clutched to Ilamelle hard, holding her tight as Sever smashed his foot down into the floor and cracked a rather large hole in it, sending the floorboards keeping Ilamelle trapped falling into the basement of the old shop. Levi, surprisingly, was keeping his sister help up pretty easily. "Alright, let's get you two scamps out of here. This place is dangerous, no more goin' in here, understand?" He scolded softly, helping Ilamelle to a secure footing.

She squealed and squirmed a bit at first, trying to get herself back from the larger hole. As soon as she was on solid footing, she hugged Levi and then clung to Sever's leg as soon as he was near enough. She answered him with a nod of the head, swallowing her tears so she wouldn't get his pants wet. She didn't trust her voice. Her ears were still flat to her head and her tail bushy with fright. She wasn't going anywhere near this building any time soon.

Sever reached down and stroked Ilamelle's hair, gently pulling her away from his leg as he gave her a hug. He then hoisted her up into the air, placing her bottom square on his shoulder as he looked down to Levi, who was nodding softly. "Thanks, son... Couldn't have done it without your big strong arms keeping your sister from falling into the basement," He said with a soft smile on his face, ruffling Levi's hair a bit.

"Th-th-thanks dad," he sniffed a bit, still scared about what'd happened. "Let's get you two back home, ok? It's starting to get near sundown anyway, and you know your mother and I don't like you two out after sundown."

She trailed her tail down his back to balance herself and rested a hand on his head. "Tay." Her voice was muted. She'd managed to get in so much trouble... had scared everyone... "I dun think I wanna play anymore t'day anyway." Tentatively, she reached out a mental hand toward her brother, hoping he'd forgive her for frightening him.

Levi nodded with a soft sigh, seeming just awfully glad his sister was alright but still just afraid to even be in the building. He felt his sister's hand reach out to him, and he sent one back to her, clasping her mental hand with one of his own in that silent forgiveness. It hadn't been her fault.

Sever though, closely bonded to his children and sensitive to such acts, felt them hold hands mentally and smiled. He was so very glad these two were growing up well with one another, how wonderful they were. Because Althena knows they could've been like HE was as a child - which would've been disastrous. He left the leatherworks with Levi at his side, moving quickly back to the shop, coming in through the front door.

"We're baaaaaaaaack!" He called out in a sing-song voice to Finculmir, setting Ilamelle down gently.

Mir came pacing out from the back room, smiling and holding out her arms, kneeling on one knee. "Hey, sweetie, what happened?" Ila made a noise halfway between a wail and a squeak and ran into her mother's arms, burying her face in Mir's shoulder. She would not cry. Oh! She would not cry. But that didn't stop her from sniffling and holding on as tightly as possible. Mir wrapped one arm gently around her little girl and beckoned to Levi with a smile, inviting him into the hug as well. "Come here, Levi, honey. I want a hug!" Holding her thoughts out of the children's reach, she sent a questioning tendril out to her husband.

Levi ran into his mother's arms with his sister, hugging her mother tightly as he shut his eyes tight. No, like his sister, he refused to cry, but his heart was racing a million miles a minute still. It'd been scary - too scary for him. Sever moved to them and made it a family hug, placing his head against his wife's with a soft smile, relaying to her what'd happened in private, the thoughts escaping their children entirely.

There was a flash of fright from her, but she kept her face carefully smooth and smiling, nuzzling her children's heads and crooning soft, comforting words to them. When he'd finished the tale, she looked up at him and gave him a gentle kiss on the corner of his mouth, wordless praise and gratitude in her thoughts. Then she turned back to her two little ones. "Well, if I know you two, you'll have had an interesting day, and a tiring one. Are you hungry?" It was soon to be supper time, and if there was one thing that would take the kits' minds off their troubles, it was food. Just like any active young one, they were fascinated with the stuff. Ilamelle's head jerked up, narrowly missing her mother's chin. She nodded vigorously in answer to her mother's question. Mir laughed and looked from one kit to the other. "Well, what would you like for dinner, then?"

Levi's stomach growled as his mother spoke those words, and he looked up to her with pleading and grateful eyes. "Mmhmm, I'm really really hungry!" He exclaimed, Sever laughing softly as he rustled both kit's hair playfully. "Well, I caught some nice big fish a few days ago, enough for the four of us to eat. How would you to like some fish?" Levi instantly perked and swiveled around, placing his hands on his father's head and resting their foreheads against one another. "We never get ta has fish! Thanks papa! Whaddaya think, Ila?"
