Even through all the rain Amara could see a dark figure standing at the very foot of her parent's graves. By the outfit, Amara recognized the solitary figure to be her elder brother, Lophus. It was as she drew nearer that she noticed an open flame in her brother's right hand. Approching him in silence, Amara swiftly came up next to him, and laid a gentle hand upon his left arm, giving it a firm squeeze in greeting. She didn't know what to say, so she simply looked up at him, gazing into his eyes.
She then allowed her gaze to slide to the nearby area. In she darkness of the shadows she noticed her brother's personal body guards, and her friends whom she had come to trust with her life.
It was hard to make them out at first because of the rain in her eyes, but eventually, she made one of them out to be Darken Meiferret. It was hard to mistake that man for anyone else. He was a kind and gentle man beneath the surface but his outward appearance often fooled people. She nodded into the darkness, acknowledging him with a grim look upon her face.
She knew that he to was mourning the loss of his parents, who had also been killed this same day two years ago.
Amara blamed herself. They had discovered that the magic had been created and set to release upon her twentieth birthday. Amara had always blamed herself, and nothing anyone could say to her would change her mind on the matter.
Amara silently knelt at the foot of the graves and lay a steady hand upon each of the graves. In her mind, she was reminding herself over and over to not show weakness. There was a slight tremble in her hands, that she prayed the others would not notice. Her vivid emerald optics welled with tears. She didn't know how much longer the mask that was the unmistakable mask of the Mother Confessor would remain upon her face if she could not keep her emotions in check.
She folded her hands before her after removing them from the graves and closed her eyes in silent prayer. Now, not only had the rain soaked her thoroughly, the ground would muddy her as well.
Luckily for her, she had a spare Mother Confessor's dress in her room in the palace.

Lophus glanced over at Amara who stood to his left. He draped his left arm around his sister's shoulders with a small squeeze. He knew he had to be strong for them all, after all he inherited his father's role of being the Lord Rahl. Not something he really wanted, but he knew there was no other way in such a dark time for everyone. The silence all but filled the air with its terrible nature had it not been for the rain pelting them all. He wanted to say so much, but didn't think it would do any of them any good on this day.

Standing at long last, Amara leaned into her brother's small but comforting embrace as he casually draped his left arm about her slender shoulders, giving them a small squeeze. Tears began to well in her vivid emerald optics as she gazed down upon the graves. In the dreadful silence that hung thick in the air Amara knew that this was not any simpler for her brother, who had been made the new Lord Rahl upon their father's death. So many looked up to him as they had Richard, and so many depended upon his strength. If Amara had known what to say to her brother, she would have put a voice to those sympathetic words, but silence was best for now. Amara knew that deep inside, her brother suffered as well. One could only be so strong for so long. Amara did her best to find her own strength. But knowing she and her brother shared the same pain, she found it comforting to be near him like this.

Amara wept silently, even though the Confessor's masked remained within her features.

Darken glanced at the sky, and shook himself lightly, walking towards the two standing before the graves of their parents. Although he'd been willing to ignore the rain for himself, he'd decided it was time for them to get out of it before they got themselves sick. He may have been willing to stare through the rain at Lophus for another hour before speaking up, but with Amara there it was time to bring an end to things.

He came to a stop a few feet from the two of them, and saluted them with a fist to his heart. "Lord Rahl, Mother Confessor, I beleive it's time for us to get out of the rain. I'm sure your parents would not want you to risk your health in this weather."

Darken brought him out of his thoughts and he glanced over to him. With a slight nod he finally noticed what Amara was wearing. The way that her dress clung to her was not something that he should see, but he was her brother and had to make sure that she was okay.
"He's right, let's head inside and get warm."
Lophus removed the cloak from himself and laid it around her shoulders.

Shadow had found Caharin’s family fast and easily, and had led Calintz to the graveyard. Calintz had stood watching everything from a distance, feeling he should respect their time, to be alone. He had left when he eventually saw the D'Haran soldier, wearing a red leather jacket, walk over to the family. He decided it would best not to speak with the family yet.

“Now’s not the best time to talk with Caharin’s family. We'll find somewhere to stay for the night, and try tomorrow.” He told Shadow, “I think the Confessor's Palace offers a place to sleep and a meal.” He looked back at the Caharin's family one more time before turning away, and walking toward the palace. “I’ll return and pay my respects to Caharin and his wife, when the guards are gone.” He said to himself as he walked away.

Amara nodded silently in agreement, not wanting to argue about it at the moment. The simple fact was in truth, that she could have cared less about her own health. But knowing her brother would not hear any argument from her, she did as she was told. When he brother offered his cape to her, she gratefully took it as he placed it upon her shoulders, adjusting around her shoulders herself so that she was a bit warmer.
" Thank you," she spoke softly, gazing into her brother's eyes before averting her attention to Darken. She foced herself to smile gently at him to show her appreciation for intervening on their behalf, worried about their health and well being. His kind remark about their parents understanding brought her some comfort, even if a little.
Amara knew her smile, even if she remained silent, would be enough for him to understand, her tear filled emerald green eyes spoke for her more often times than not.

It was time to delve back into the present and the task at hand.
"Do you know if Zedd has found anything yet?"
He mostly directed his question to Darken, but hoped Amara might have over heard something else. He always remembered the Wizard's Seventh Rule. Life is the future, not the past. No matter how much he missed his parents, he had to look forward to the future so that those generations would not suffer their own tragedy.

"I have not heard of anything, Lord Rahl. Shall I arrange for you to speak with him this evening?" Darken nodded, and gave a small bow, watching them move towards the gate a way before eventually taking up his position behind them. The large D'haran guards assigned to the Lord Rahl and Mother Confessor took up positions around them as they left the graveyard, one falling back to report on a fiugure they'd seen watching their charges.

Darken nodded, watching Amara with his good eye as he talked to the man beside him. "I see. Well, there's no harm in looking, or even talking. But if you see him again, and he tries to see Lord Rahl, or the Mother Confessor, you have him sent to me first. We'll see if he can be trusted with an audience."

He turned his eye to the guard. "We can not afford to let our guards down again. Trouble does not get so much as a look at them, understood?"

The guard nodded solemnly, and trotted up to take his own place closer to the Lord Rahl. Darken stayed behind by himself, thinking as he watched the Mother Confessor.

It was unhealthy, he knew. And not just for him. He was grateful, at least, that his position was not that of a primary bodyguard. It meant that these distractions were not horrible enough he would have to ask his superior officer to be reassigned to a lesser task. Even though the other guards reported to him, he had to admire their strengths where his own shortcomings made him weak. He drew a knife, and idly tossed it from hand to hand.

Perhaps he should return to the Palace of the Prophets. He likely would have, were it not for the tragedy that had happened to Lord Richard Rahl and the ensuing chaos within the D'haran Empire. Perhaps once things had died down he would have himself reassigned. He caught his knife, and slid it back home, and increased his pace, catching up to the party before him.

He wouldn't go anywhere. It just wasn't healthy, lying to himself like this.

Name: Nora Steward

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Rank: Mord Sith

Appearance: Nora has a tall powerful figure that is lithe and easily compact. Like many Mord Sith she is rigid and stiff, though outwardly she appears to have a certain calm about her since her expression is ever smiling. But the brightness that manifests in her crystal blue eyes from time to time is a reflection of the madness so many Mord Sith possess after a brutal life of pain and torture. It has since dulled and Nora is left with a visage that portrays confidence and mirth any of the past Mord Sith appreciate after having their lives handed back to them. She binds her red hair ((Which previously caused her to be a sort of outsider because of its red hue that seems to hint at magic ability)) into two pigtails most of the time, but when her mood is dark or serious she unconsciously slips back into old habits and braids her long red locks.

Personality: Like many of her kind, Nora possesses a sarcastic sort of humor and unwavering loyalty to her Lord Rahl, as well as her Mother Confessor. Since she was the youngest Mord Sith during the time of Darken Rahl's final hour of rule she was able to lead a life more free than her older Sisters of the Agiel, and because of this she was eternally grateful to Richard and perhaps more loyal to him than others because of it. Nora's trust is earned easily, but she is not at all naive. She will say if she does not trust someone very openly for all to hear unless it is obvious that she shouldn't. In addition to that, Nora usually sees very little reason to remain quiet about what she thinks. She's by no means obnoxious, doesn't spout her opinion like everyone should care, but she will often say what everyone else is afraid to.

Family:
Mother: Katherine Steward Deceased
Father: Nathaniel Steward Deceased

History: Nora was taken in as a very young and sweet girl to be trained in the ways of a Mord Sith. She suffered greatly, just as all the others, and lived through her Second Breaking. The night she was to meet her own father in the dungeons of the People's Palace an alarm swept through the place and soon she found that a new Lord Rahl would command them in the morning. Or, at least should have. During the time she had before it was decided what the grown Mord Sith around her would do with the younger one in their midst, she was able to confront her father. Gripping her Agiel tightly in one hand, her red hair disheveled from the nights actions, she let light into her father's cell where he waited, the man battered and bruised from rough handling. He cursed her at first, claiming in delirium that it was her fault that his wife died. Nora's heart nearly broke, but she held her father who continued to mutter about her mother over and over again. He was on the verge of insanity, having lead such a simple life as a castle steward. Such a man did not have the constitution have that which he held dear so mercilessly ripped away.
Nora ended up having to go through her Third Breaking, though not nearly so brutal as others, even after she was free.
She might have killed herself, but as she watched her father's life slip away a certain serenity entered his kind face and the light of a good spirit misted over his eyes. He managed a smile for her and was finally gone.
When she grew up she served the D'Harans and their Lord Rahl loyally, with the vigor to rival anyone in any job she was given, like all Mord Sith should.
Once she heard of her Lord Rahl's death, along with Cara and Benjamin Meiffert, the red-head set immediately out to offer her services to the newly appointed Mother Confessor. Being the youngest and fittest of the remaining Mord Sith that were trained during Darken Rahl's time, Nora knew without a doubt and without any false gloating that she was the best candidate for the position, even if she was no Cara. In fact, the only reason she did not offer herself to the Lord Rahl himself was because the son of Cara and Benjamin Meiffert seemed better suited for the job.
Nora has never married, may have thought she was in love once or twice, but is unhindered for the time being. All the better to serve anyway, though love is not unwelcome.

Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: Animals, fruit, meat, peppermint tea, happy children, rain, running, sharp implements, baths in the river and any other natural water sources. Though it is innate for a D'Haran to be weary of magic, she came to harbor a certain love, or just appreciation, for it when she met the Sisters of the Light. She might have become one of the sisters if she had not been forced to be a Mord Sith.
Dislikes: Leafy green vegetables, coffee, criminals in general. She'll tell you anything else she might hate if asked.

Amara silently followed her brother out of the graveyard, only pausing to gaze up at her brother when he spoke, but allowed Darken to answer instead. She returned her emerald gaze to the ground, watching her feet as she shuffled along. She listened half-heartedly to the orders Darken gave his men. Forcing her gaze away from the ground, Amara absent mindedly swiped tears from her face and eyes. She then paused mid-stride and sneezed. The sneeze nearly knocked the wind out of her and made her slightly dizzy as she shivered immediately afterward, staggering backwards a bit. She had been out in the rain nearly the better part of the early morning, and then had gone inside the Wizard's Keep long enough to take care of a few things and then head back out into the rain for a trek across the city to the Confessor's Palace. She had only ridden her horse part way.
Picking up her pace again to walk a few steps behind her brother, she left no time for anyone to say anything to her or scold her as she sniffled slightly.
So lost was she in her own thoughts that she could not even care for herself properly. She was not however, usually like this.
Amara just had not felt well at all ever since she had arisen before the sun.
Amara's attention was commanded however, when she heard Darken mention something about someone watching them. Amara immediately forced herself to be as cognizant as she could be.

Amara paused momentarily as she continued to head for the gateway, to look back over her shoulder at Darken. She smiled slightly, and then turned her head back to watch her brother as they all left the cemetary. She silently said a prayer in her mind, saying farewell to her parents and promising to come see them again as soon as she could.

Having taken to standing in the shadows offered by the archway leading to the cemetery after shadowing Amara to this place, Nora found this as good a time as any to come forward. She uncrossed her arms easily and stepped into the rain, the water weaving into her tightly weaved braid that hung down between her shoulderblades. It was a day of mourning for everyone, and she contemplated it as she slowly walked into the damp cemetary, her eyes stony as she watched the guards and their charges walking towards her to start the trek back into the Confessor's Palace.

Somehow their prior assemblage around the late Lord Rahl and Mother Confessor's grave marker seemed an occasion that did not warrant her intrusion, something she shouldn't be able to witness up close because she had not lost something so dear that day two years ago. Three of the people present had lost their parents, four of the most virtuous people she knew to exist through her services to the D'Haran army ripped so heartlessly away from them. She had indeed lost her first Lord Rahl as well, but even the bond she shared with him, as all D'Haran's, was not as strong as the bond between parent and child. It was because of this that she had taken the cover of the shadows.

Nora stood to the side to let the group of people pass her, turning her face to look off into the distance so she would not seem to be taking in the grieving visage of her charge. When, and if, she wished to talk the Mord Sith knew Amara would come to her. For now, the bodyguard would gladly retain a bit of normalcy even for this day of mourning. She didn't even comment on her Lady's sneeze. Her black robe and hood began to drip at an even rate just as she turned briskly to to follow them back inside, the water flying off the tails of the robe as if surprised by the suddenness and sharpness of the movement. As she began to follow behind the Mother Confessor she barely caught the tail end of the look the younger woman had sent in Darken's direction.

Calintz the Doppelganger

PostPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 9:17 pm
Calintz finally made it to the Confessor's Palace, and he was able to get a room and a meal. After he finished his meal, he put his weather cloak back on and set out for the cemetery again. He figured the guards would be gone by now, and when he arrived he was right, no one was around.

“Let’s see, where was Caharin’s grave again?”
He asked himself. He watched as Shadow land on a grave a few yards away. “Thanks Shadow.” Shadow flies back and lands on Calintz’s shoulder, he the pats Shadow’s head. He walked up to the grave and kneed in front of the grave of Caharin and his wife.

“Hello Caharin… I’m here to pay the respects of all the Baka Ban Mana, your people.” He then sets a necklace next to Caharin grave, “That’s from Du Chaillu, and the child you had her keep. Cara… You’ll be happy to know she’s grown into a beautiful woman, and a great Blade-Master.” He then turns to the Mother Confessor’s grave and sets some special flowers, that only grow in the Blade-Master region. “This is from all of Baka Ban Mana, Mother Confessor.”

Calintz then stood and turned toward the entrance, then paused at the sight he seen. “Well, this isn’t a good sign…...go.” Shadow flied into the air at his command, as he is dragged away by D'Haran soldiers. “So…May I ask what I’m being arrested for?” He asked, but never received an answer.
