Saiya arched an eyebrow and handed him the blankets. Reaching into her own bag she pulled out two power bars and held one out for him. "You know it's not healthy to be all friendly and normal with someone one minute and an ice cube the next."

"Hm?" Kai asked, half distracted as he took the blankets and put them away. His father's lectures had been playing in his head.

Saiya narrowed her eyes and dropped the power bar into his hand. "Never mind. Obviously it wasn't that important." She sneered as she turned and opened her own power bar while walking for the forest in the direction of the clearing.

Putting out the fire, Kai grabbed his pack and headed off after Saiya. Sighing Kai was pretty much ready to tell her right then... Taking a deep breath he decided to take the middle road. "Look, I'm sorry." he stated, moving to catch up with her.

Saiya looked over at him and arched an eyebrow as she chewed her power bar. "For?" She pushed as she took another bite.

"For acting like such a jerk." he added, scratching his head. "I've been kind of conditioned that emotions are a bad thing." Kai explained, glancing around the forest.

Saiya rolled her eyes. "Who would teach you such a stupid thing? Without emotions how are you supposed to have mercy or children for that matter." She took another bit of her power bar. "Emotion makes you more powerful if you ask me, not weak. It's just lack of control over emotion that can cause you issues."

"My father actually." Kai replied, opening his power bar and taking a bite of it. "For elves emotions tend to cloud the senses when left unchecked." Which is why I'm having such a problem around you, Kai thought keeping from saying it by eating more of his power bar. "So to be able to use our gifts to its fullest ability, we have to sort of cage our emotions."

Saiya frowned. "Sounds like a whacked deal to me. I would think if you honed your abilities to work with your emotions instead that they would be much more effective." She pointed out as she watched him. "You know you can still get sick from eating one of those too fast. Elf or not."

Swallowing his mouthful, Kai smiled. He didn't dare to tell her why he was getting his power bar so fast. "And you're not the first one to come to that conclusion... But every person that has tried it ended up either going insane or on a rampage."

Saiya shrugged. "That just cause you elves aren't as strong as you think." She shot back with a smile. "It takes a strength of will that obviously none of your people have possessed as of yet." She eyed him for a moment. "So if you don't show emotion what was up with the petting and deep soul search in the hot spring?"

Kai nearly choked on his power bar, sputtering. "I said it was drilled into us, I didn't say it was easily followed." he stated as he tried to avoid eye contact. Kai didn't happen to add that she made it harder for him to actually follow what his dad tried to drill into him... But he couldn't say that it made him too made, he'd never really liked those lessons.

Clearing his throat Kai continued to try and avoid eye contact. "I don't think I know what you mean." he stated. "So... do you always carry power bars with you?" Kai asked, trying to change the subject.
