Hmm... when I get off work, I might head over to the local library to finally getting a library card with them. Last year my hometown library decided to break ties with the other library system because they wanted to focus on building a collection that better suited our hometown's clients. I understand where they are coming from. Just a bit inconvenient as I don't have as much easy access to all of the materials like I used to.

I never really considered it that important as I always figured I would find other means of finding the items I wanted to see. But now that I've got so many shows to catch up on... it might actually be beneficial to get that other library card, so I have access to the disc versions of the TV series I need to catch up on.

A minor new year resolution, I suppose.

It'll be nice to work on the various things that have been building up over time and creating subconscious stress on how much I need to do.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed of figuring out what I should do with the limited free time I have.

I think it's hard too because I have my parents constantly chiming in their opinions about things. So, sometimes I feel guilty about doing something - something they might consider "goofing off" and not something more "reasonable". Like... yes... there's probably a few "adult" things I should be doing but when you've been working non-stop for days on end, sometimes you just need to relax. Things like job searching don't always help one relax. They just add on more stress.

Job searching is another topic I've come to dislike discussing with my parents. Because once again, I don't feel like I have a say on what *I* want. Everything seems to be about what *they* want me to do. Mom keeps bugging me about applying for library jobs, despite me telling her repeatedly that I have applied multiple times in the past few months for the positions I'm able to apply for with my level of experience/education. Dad keeps sending me positions that are specifically receptionist/front desk-like positions.

Hard to know what I want to do when I don't have the time - or ability - to think about it. Anytime I try expressing how I feel about something, they always seem to shoot it down. "I would like something that isn't so upfront with people anymore. I would like to be a bit more behind-the-scenes so to speak." "You can't be a hermit." Okay, that's an exaggeration of how they respond... but it's basically what they are saying.

I don't want to be a hermit. That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm just tired of dealing with customer service and what to get away from it. Being a receptionist at some other location isn't going to change that. It'll be basically the same thing, just different clients and different subjects I'm discussing.

Plus... there's a part of me that wants to embrace my creativity side more. I think that's why the Activities Assistant position my co-worker keeps hinting at bringing back appeals to me so much.

I think I'm annoyed by the receptionist positions my Dad keeps sending me too because of the places he picks. Like... there is no way I'm going to be interested working for some random manufacturing company, insurance, or medical office. Yes, I'm technically dealing with medical-oriented stuff at the assisted living, but it is not my "passion," so to speak.

Just because I happen to do tasks in medical-oriented places does not mean I'm wanting to be in that field. I'm not doing vet data entry at the animal shelter because I'm wanting to a vet; I'm doing it because it's a different aspect of providing the TLC to the animals there. I'm not doing the receptionist work at the assisted living because I want to be a caregiver or whatever. It just happened to be a job that worked with my theater schedule... and technically was meant to be a replacement for the theater but because of the days I work, it didn't really work out the way planned.

I know I would love to have my weekends back and set shifts. No more of these shifts that change week to week depending on the time of year or what films are out at the time. And definitely no more late nighters. This holiday season was a killer because of those. xp

Last night my Mom inquired if I got another job - a full time, specifically - would I be willing to give up my positions at the shelter, theater, and assisted living.

Theater is an easy yes. I've been wanting to leave that place for some time but things have never worked out to make it actually happen.

I told my Mom if the new job let me earn the same amount or more money as I am right now with the theater and assisted living, then I would consider dropping both. I just depended on the job.

While I would hate to stop my time at the shelter, if the occasion arises that I must end my time there, then I'll take that move when it arises.
