It's related to, actually.
See the first person to say they should sell it was just a random exec; I believe the guy in charge of making new software/Apps for their phones. And the article was pretty obviously biased; he said that what Microsoft did well was software, *cough* "like applications for our mobile devices" *cough*, and that they should drop hardware like the Xbox to devote more funds and attention to that.
The second guy, who agreed, is the head of a major software company that just bought into/was absorbed by Microsoft. He's rich (like, made his pre-Microsoft company rich, rich), successful (he's already on their Executive Board), and at the rate it's going it looks like he's the best possible candidate to take over Microsoft, although he has 0 tenure, which is an issue.
So after the Xbox One released, the company president issued a statement that's at the very least, targeted at those two's comments. My theory is that it's also based on the Xbox One sucking in sales, but again, I'm probably just hoping in vain. v.v Anyways yeah, the current President said he supports the Xbox One fully, and is sure Microsoft will keep working with the Xbox...and stuff. Basically promising that he'll keep it from bombing, somehow. Actually, he specifically talks about the "Xbox brand" the whole time and never once addresses the Xbox One specifically. Which a few conspiracy nuts jumped on, but I'm sure that's nothing.
Aaaaaand important thing to keep in mind, is that the current President is set to retire, partially of his own volition, partially not of his volition, in less then a year. That means that he's trying to set his decisions (like keeping the Xbox branch) in stone, but the reality is that in a year he's gone either way. And at that time, it's possible mister doesn't-want-the-Xbox takes over. And then it's anybody's ballgame.
