I bet Kirsi would have told Xia most of it, and given that she could easily have gotten a little worked up I wouldn't be surprised if she mentioned that she thought she knew Ray from home but with the way he's acting she's not sure.

there's can't be any battle during fieldtrip, so they will need to re-arrange a time at the academy.
Cyril will want to test out his sneasel in battle and friendly battle will be helpful.
(though that seem impolite to use untrained pokemon to someone who wanted a re-match)
maybe topic of battle club can be thrown in too.
(need to elaborate on the idea, well, later on . . . when I am more awake)

Maybe once there is a time skip or something?

It's not so much a rematch with the exact same pokemon, but practicing
A chance for them both to work with newer pokemon or try out a new move, or just get more comfortable with battling in general
Alongside slowly becoming friends and getting to know each other through this

I do realize that Xia shared the same classes with Marcus, but I'm not sure how their interaction had been like.
